    Dust...a pleasant break!

Really really enjoyed painting these over the last few weeks, it's a pleasant change from the usual 40k stuff. Not to mention the game itself rocks!

Finally got round to taking those pics, quite a lot to go so will bob the allies on today and hopefully post the axis stuff later today or tomorrow

I would imagine the revised core set is due out here in the UK over the weekend so should have another 2 walkers and 3 or 4 squads to add to the forces sometime soon!

All speedpainted for a nice bold tabletop effect, the tanks are straightforward simple airbrush and nothing more than masking tape and a few pieces of packing sponge....no fancy powders or techniques required!

Here are the current set of heroes from left to right Sigrid, Manfred, Rosie and Bazooka Joe

    Tank Busters

    Observer and Sniper Team

    Recon Boys

    Gunners

Grim Reapers led by OZZ 117

Very basic stuff Siam-tiger as I wanted to get them all knocked out for playing, hopefully will be another boxed set out this weekend so soon as I get it mid week I will try and put together a little tutorial for them mate..

might as well post the axis forces while the sun aint on show...

Same deal as the Allies, speedpainted, basic techniques, nice bold colours for maximums tabletop candiness

I love the sculpts, anyone who has built any WWII vehicles can immediately recognise various parts of the tanks so they ooze authentic but they are on legs....ON LEGS! LEGS!

Not sure what your asking there bsaet but if your asking if the walkers use lasers? The light walkers use captured alien techno (pulse and laser) and of course the laser grenadiers too. most of the other gear is standard WWII ordnance, the medium Axis tank for instance sports 2 88's as it's main armament and an MG34 for personal defense. This is what makes Dust cool for me, just close enough to reality to have recognisable weapons (7 pounders, screaming jenny's. quad 50's. It's all there!) and vehicles but with a cool pinch of 'what if' and Alien intervention...very excited about what's to come....

Anyhow, Few snippets. Whipped through the scenery that came with the base set and both campaigns, literally half hour with the airbrush, 4 colours and some old spnge and brown paint! I can now officially say I am all up to date! Shame the revised core set wasn't released this weekend over here in the UK....still in a defo Dust painting mood....ahh well maybe next week

To comfort myself I bagged the two kits from Ebay, figured the Gunther and the other kit (once Dusted over with a little WWII gear) would make good objectives for future games, building them will give me something to do on the long cold nights in the Lake District when I go on my hols soon too!

This stuff looks awesome, but I've never heard of the game before...

Got any links that would be helpful? I keep getting multiple results but none seem to what you've got :S

These are looking fantastic, I am a big fan of your 40K stuff (especially the Carcharadons) and this thread is making me want to pick up some DUST stuff even more than before.

I have a few questions though if that's ok?

I know the figures come pre-assembled and undercoated, but did you have any problems with mould lines?

I know when I got some AT-43 stuff the figures weren't quite as advertised and the assembly on some of them left a lot to be desired, but the DUST stuff seems better.

Also how easy were they to paint with the green/grey undercoat? Did you re-prime them or were they ok to paint straight over?

And I believe the walkers in the starter set come primed in either green of grey, but appear to already have the decals in place? Is that right? If so do you get spare decals for when you repaint them, or can you just use any old WW2 decals?

And finally I do really want to get into this game, but i am thinking I would prefer DUST Warfare to DUST Tactics, so may just buy the book and then some figures.

Does the boxed set provide you with a decent starting point for an army models wise, or would I be better off just buying an army seperately?

I am aware that there is a new core set coming out, but Darksphere have the old one on offer, but would I be better waiting for the new one, or not bothering and just buying an army in its own right?

Sorry for all the questions, I have ummed and ahhed about this game for ages but think i should just bite the bullet and go for it!!

    Re: Dust...a pleasant break!

    Blimey Straightsilver...where do I begin!

    here goes

Mould lines, the only thing I have had to clean up are the flat knee plates on the tanks by giving them a little scrape over with the edge of a blade other than that not touched a thing!

The figures are all assembled and rotate on the waist. I recommend removing the heads and using a little superglue to reattach, I also popped the torsos off snipped about 3mm from the prong and re glued, I just thought it gave a better join with less gaps

All the figures come pre-primed in either grey or green with transfers applied, no spares but any 1/48 WWII transfers will do the job and the dust website sells appropriately Dust world themed transfers too, to be honest I couldn't be bothered to wait so everything you see on my figs are simple hand painted markings, you can get away with only a few markings if any on most of the figures and tanks

I didn't even clean them with soapy water, just primed them with black acrylic auto spray....as I said speed painted and corners cut all the way!

I would imagine Dust Warfare will present a much much better game experience than tactics for the simple fact we all love our tabletops and less limited movement options and having played Chambers previous Starship troopers I am expecting something pretty awesome. Saying that Tactics is the dogs danglers and an amazing game in it's own right LOTS of fun and utterly BRUTAL! Even after Warfare is released I woudn't be surprised if we return to tactics for some quick fix games every now and then. The main boxed sets represent excellent value for money considering what they contain too but I would imagine that only applies if your wanting to collect both allied and axis forces (which I am) I would recommend the original box set rather than the revised set as a starting point as this contains basic forces rather than the more advanced specialist units of the revised set. You also get some nice quality tiles in the original box set and not the crappy paper map that comes in the revised set

I can't see any harm in buying the tactics stuff to be honest as I would imagine Fantasy flight and Andy Chambers will work the current boxed sets and squad sizes into the army lists and rules, would be crazy not to as who wants to change all the packaging at this point???

Cheers Bulldog, that has pretty much made my mind up then, gonna pick this up on Saturday and add it to the huge pile of things I may get around to painting at some point!

Although as you say these make a pleasant break from 40K so I am going to have get some.

Thanks for answering all my random questions, you are a star!

Anyhoo, hols out of the way, back into the grind decided to sneak in a few more Dust models before I start on the next commission models so here they are, this post represents the contents of the revised core edition of Dust

Trying to keep the colours faithful to the card art as our little group are casual players and only get a few hours a week, would rather not spend most of that time trying to figure out what squad is where!

    ...

    want.

Seriously, though, this is making me all the more excited about Dust Warfare's release. I had a go at the Tactics game and, frankly, wasn't all that fussed about it, although I did love the minis. But with a proper miniatures combat game on the horizon, I might have to jump in.

    Re: Dust...a pleasant break!

Well we hope its a proper Mini game and not just a 'sorta use the board game rules on the tabletop'.
Sons of Fenris they are, hardened in the forge of their harsh world, eager for battle and honour. The grey warriors, ashen like the wolf, whose greatest joy is to hear the clamour of steel amidst the din of war. None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperors foes.
