Arrow The Empire from Down Under?!

    Good afternoon warseers.

Today, well tonight i actually fly from Heathrow (London) to Melbourne (Australia), i am going on a years "working holiday", accompanied by my better half.

I was going to give up the hobby whilst there but, the missus encouraged me to still do it, so what an excuse to start a new army.

I have always loved The Empire, even had a small army in the the of Storm of Chaos, after reading books and researching the region etc i made my choice on which province my army shall rise from, The Ostermark.... well enough jibber jabber, take a look at the following pictures and se what you think (sorry they are taken with an iphone).

Above what i already have for my collection to take to the OZ.

The first 8 painted minis from the front, and below, the back.

You get a better look at the state colours.

Lastly my WIP life and light wizards.

    Thanks for looking, Ady.
P.s. I know the prices are high in the OZ!!!

    Good Morning, Afternoon and Evening?!

Ive just about settled in melbourne so i though it was time for an update, got a few things to show you, firstly is the finished off unit of hangunners, took time but im happy with the result, will get a movement tray built and based for them in the next few days.

I thought id give you a look from the back, so you can really see the state colours on them, and this is also how i will see them on the battlfield, unless they run away :/

Also below got a sneak peak of some PIP for the next part of the army.

    Thanks for looking, please comment?!

I was expecting the croc hunter cooking up some prawns on the barbie. Instead I find some amazing painting.

Those handgunners are ace. You highlighting style (vertical lines) is extremely unique and very effective. Are you planning on keeping the greatsword's armor black? I think it's a very nice contrast to the light purple and cream colors, and helps make them look a little more dangerous.

I'm with Lord Dan on the black armour idea, think that'll look very very nice. Overall mate, I like these Empire a lot - you've got a very gritty style of painting, so they look dirty - but in a good way, if that makes sense.

Re: The Empire from Down Under?!

Hey guys, back with a minor/major update so i took some of your advice in the black armour on the greatswords, below i have attached the finished ones, though i have also done one with dark metalics to compare, which do you guys prefer?!

    Fanny Crowbar:
Thanks for your reply, there will be more alot more by the end of the week expect the first 10 greatswords done, hopefully?!

    grimkeeper:
The wizards are still very wip, will try get some work done on them this week, i didnt realise that till i re read the post title.

    Lord Dan:
Ha, but thank you. If you see the pictures below you shall see an example of black armour, what do you think? BTW im a massive fan of your Sylvanian Empire log, great work!

    JackDaw:
Again thank you for your comment, take a look below to see the black armour. Yeah i like "mucky" models their poses are those of been on the battlefield so why would they be clean !

    mdiscala:
Thank you, yeah id like to say i have my own individual style of painting, some local gamers i know, really dont like it but hey, they are my models!

Right to the models, take a look below, which armour colour should i use, i like the idea of black but the dark armour appeals to me alot more, any input?

Thanks for looking, please comment, C&C's welcome.

The black armor looks great. To give it more of a lacquered look you could give it a coat of GW 'Ard Coat (or any varnish, really) to give it a shine and make it look darker.

Great work so far! Love the contrast of the black armour with the other colours and it's all painted to a very good standard. Top stuff!

love this painting style, looks really good with empire uniforms, i like the metalic armour best, but like lord dan says some 'laquer' on the black would turn me the other way i think, there was a reiksguard foot champion in the very first empire book, 3rd/4th ed that had black laquered armour with gold details that looked relly good, and that was from 20 years ago! and i still remember it...so it must have been good..right?

    Awesome painting, purple looks great.
Of the two armours I prefer the silver one personally but they both look great.
    Keep up the good work!

Re: The Empire from Down Under?!

Back again with a pretty big update?! I would have been quicker with the picture of the ten finished greatswords but I got distracted by something, see below! Any way here's the pictures of the greatswords, front and back as usual!

Right I have also completed the gsing on my wizards they are now ready for priming, may paint them as a treat after the first ten halberdiers?!

Right and here's the little thing that distracted me......

If you can guess where I stole the design you get a cookie! I will be doing freehand on all my banners looking forward to doing the greatsword one !

    Thanks for looking, c&c's please!

Oooooh I love the pose on that second wizard, I love the colours on your Greatswords, I ADORE the banner but I am not a fan of your basing. The grass... looks... dead... Unless that is what you want, you may want to try and get it more straight up.
