Thanks Echunia, I remember the days when dispel scrolls seemed obligatory.

    And thanks for subscribing fluffy05!

    Re: To Ostland!

Lord dan did indeed do a thorough dissection of your force. I tried to keep your list as much as intact as possible but if you do include some more models his suggestions are pretty spot on!

If you decide to change your model collection abit id like to add the following to his comments:

Id keep the talisman on your lvl 4 if you can! If you have a miscast and get him wounded (or face a death wizard) youl be thankfull for it. Or if you get hit by a cannonball and fail the 2+ look out sir (not very likely to happen but still possible...) However if its in the way and preventing you from adding something else (like the BSB) you can drop it, but id only do that if no other option is presenting itself. Also renember that if you put your wizard in a unit, and it gets charged your opponent can just allocate hits against him so if he has no protection at all hes sure to die really fast...

And like Lord dan said a cheap BSB is ALMOST a must! You can do without, sure but for the small price that he costs your getting a LOT of benefits! I completly missed that fact that you were missing one to be honest....

I find dispell scrolls to be a very good item! Not NEEDED but a very usefull tool none the less With a lvl 4 I must say that id be less inclined to use it then when you only have 1 lvl 2 (like my army where the top caster is lvl 2.... really hard to counter....well much of anything really!)

See if you can sneak that BSB in somehow, and then up the sizes of the units before doing anything else. The detachments should indeed be increased in size but if you can save points by having only 1 detachment perhaps thats better. Also renember you can keep detachments VERY tiny as your not restricted to normal minimal unit sizes! So if you dont have enough points for a proper combat detachment you might consider adding a tiny shooty element. Are they going to do much? Probably not, but dont underrestimate redirecting charges and march blocking for example. Both good uses for small missle troops

Demoulius makes a great point about small units, too. I take a detachment of 5 archers simply to get in the way.

First, what happened to Warseer? Whoa!

OK back on track. Thanks for your comments on the BSB and Talisman, I'll keep them both in mind. Just as well I have a BSB model.

    Re: To Ostland!

Alrighty, I've redone my list according to Lord Dan's critique and here's a new version. It does mean I'll have to buy more than one box of Greatswords to round up all the needed models though so I may use the 'Demoulious' version if I get a game while I procure the troops needed for the 'Lord Dan' model!

Geirhardt von Krieger, General of the Empire- 158
    Ogre Blade, Dawn Armour, Shield

    Wizard Lord- 250
Lvl 4, Grey Wand, Lore of Light

    Hildegarde Engel, Warrior Priestess- 124
2 Warhammers, Armour of Meteoric Iron, Ironcurse Icon

    Captain of the Empire- 83
    Full Plate Armour, Battle Standard

    The Redshields, 35 Swordsmen- 235
    Full Command, led by Geirhardt

    Heinrich's Boozers, 15 Free Company Detachment- 75

Ostland Arquebusiers, 10 Handgunners Detachment- 80

    The Bull's Horns, 35 Halberdiers- 195
    Full Command

The Town Drunks, 15 Free Company Detachment- 75

Ostland Fusiliers, 10 Handgunners Detachment- 80

Shadow Forest Trackers, 10 Huntsmen- 100

    Proudblades, 20 Greatswords- 230
Full Command, led by Hildegarde Engel

    5 Outriders- 105

    Great Cannon- 100

    Exemplar, Helblaster Volley Gun- 110

2000 points exactly! Love it when that happens!

Your math was a little off Lord Dan, I didn't have quite enough points for the second Handgunner detachment without dropping the musician from the Outriders. Not too much of a worry though because I took that horn arm from the box to make a Free Company musician! Which I might not be using now, oh.
Speaking of, I was planning on extending the Outriders to 10 men in a later 3000 points list. I'll be sure to add the musician then!

I wasn't sure where to attach the Handgunners so I added one each to the Swordsmen and Halberdiers. What unit should my BSB join now?

Well, I hope this is the last change I have to make to this army!

    Re: To Ostland!

    Perfection.

As far as BSB placement goes that should be a game-to-game decision. The short answer is he should go wherever his 24" bubble will cover the majority of your army. Sometimes it's more complicated than that, especially if your army gets split up or if you know one unit in particular is going to need the extra +1 CR boost.

    Re: To Ostland!

Awesome, thank you for your help!

    My shopping list is now-

    1 box of Greatswords
    3 boxes of State Troops
    1 box of Handgunners/Crossbowmen
    1 box of Free Company
I'll also need another wizards box as I messed up some parts on the second plastic wizard!

Some may view it as a setback, but truth be told I love buying new stuff for an army! I'm terrible, I know!

    Re: To Ostland!

That looks like a solid Empire army! A lot of diversity and you are likely to outnumber your adversaries... Playing with the amry you've invested so much time, effort and detail in, should be very rewarding! Let us know how your first battles go...

Buying new stuff for your army is always good, although it only increases the ammount of models you still need to paint (at least, in my case it does)... Keeping an eye out for future updates!

    Re: To Ostland!

Coming from an experienced general who favours unusual army compositions that can only mean my force is pretty respectable. Always good to know, but if this 2000 point army is big, how big will the 3000 point version be!?

    1 box of Greatswords
    3 boxes of State Troops
    1 box of Handgunners/Crossbowmen
    1 box of Free Company
The first 3 units of that list are included in the army box (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...Id=prod2030000) in fact, the box has 20 state troopers! ^_^ it also has 8 knights which are effectivly free and you get a small discount on the greatswords

If you manage to buy them online at a 3rd party retailer you might even end up cheaper! that said the hobby still costs....enough always hate the nagging realisation when I have to buy more stuffz!

Like the list Only thing I dont like is the lack of a back up caster.... Perhaps throw in a cheap lvl 1 beast wizard for the signature spell or something? Im sure you can do without one of the handgunner detachments

I totally forgot about that battalion! Ugh, a few weeks back my local game shop had a 10% off sale, wish I thought about getting it then!
Oh well, next payday I'll make it my treat!

As I'm virtually a noob these days when it comes to fantasy I'll see how I go before I alter the list again, but thanks for the suggestion.

    Re: To Ostland!

No real update just yet but rest assured I'm still making models. My Greatswords are built, I've done some odd jobs here and there and I've started work on my Halberdiers. I'll post pictures soon-ish.

Anyway, people following my log will know I've plumped for a Light Wizard Lord for my 2K list and I've been looking for a fancy model to represent him.
I've found two contenders but I'm a little undecided, so I thought I'd seek the advice of others! Here's the two I'm considering-

    Classic Metal-
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2808032066...#ht_637wt_1165

Classic Plastic (where'd this guy come from!?)-
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2808032063...#ht_637wt_1165

I may go for the plastic as it's something I don't think I've seen before, but the metal has some nostalgia about it (and looks like it'd be a great Liche Priest in a Tomb KIngs army!).

    Re: To Ostland!

The plastic guy is originally from the 3rd edition of Talisman, one of the expansions I think. Got re-released in WD later and then had another re-release (a re³lease if you will ^^) in a box of 8 wizards (that one I own). I also have that metal wizard, he has been waiting for some paint for several months now, so you see I'm not overly keen on painting him.
Comparing the two the plastic one has a flatter cloak, which is good because the metal one's just looks stupid, almost like a curtain. And believe it or not, the plastic character's face has better detail and the model, being plastic, doesn't chip. So if you've got the choice go for the plastic one.
(Or just buy both, it's in the spirit of the fluff really - Light Wizards cast in collectives.)

    Re: To Ostland!

I suspected he may have been a Talisman figure. Wow, that takes me all the way back to the Red Period! Necromunda in the shops, Sisters of Battle supported slightly better than now, Warhammer Quest on weekends, Games Worskshop not being afraid to be light hearted. Ahh, what a wonderful time it was back then!
Thanks for the advice Gargobot! Didn't Light Wizards have acolytes back then though?

Been a while since I've looked at any logs, thought I'd catch up. You've certainly been busy army is starting to look good, can't wait to see some more painted liking the progress and the simple kit mash up's with heads etc so simple but very effective I'd like to be able to give you some army list advice but I'm still playing around with character builds etc and considering i had 2 units of halberdiers run off the table on wednesday cause my wizard exploded still playing with the tactics lol lovign the progress though, tough call with the wizards i think i slightly prefer the metal one's pose but his face isn't very good. Can't wait to see more

Hey Superdan21, nice to see you pop by! I went with the plastic one in the end, not a bad model at a lll, it has a great face.
But I've been busy with Necromunda related stuff recently so updates are going to be scarce for Ostland for a while!

Why hello there, its a tad chilly round here and I'm saying that as an Ogre.

You really seem to be off to a cracking start with these guys, be good to see them getting some more love once you're all Necro'd up for now. That Light Wizard looks like he's going to be a tasty addition, well jelly about you having him.

As for my Empire I did what I do all too often with a new army - I splash out and buy a ton of stuff at once, meaning it sits on my desk judging me and I eventually just move them on to someone else. With the Ogres that I'm working on currently I bought the battleforce, as its the cheapest way of building a dirty great Horde of the buggers, and nothing else until they're all done up. Well except for some Mournfangs, but that's mostly for parts.

    Re: To Ostland!

Jelly about me having him? Well I certainly haven't heard that expression before!

I'm the same with armies, I sometimes randomly drop one and start another! I still have a Skaven army halfway collected and a box each of Dark Elf and Beastmen models/bits I refer to as an "army"!
But I've told myself that this year I will get this army to 2000 points (and hopefully painted). But everyone at the club I frequent likes 2500-3000 points games! Oh that'll be 2013's project!
