    Re: To Ostland!

You know what guys? To hell with trying to make a competitive or viable list! I've been worrying myself to the point I've been reconsidering other armies but I've been forgetting why I started in the first place!

To have an Empire army! It'll be an age before I get round to playing probably so who cares how devastating the list will be? I should just make a list I feel happy with dammit! I feel awkward at the idea of relying on one or two hordes and hate that I've been dropping stuff I've spent time planning and assembling! I've had my eye on a comedic Free Company unit ever since I started and don't give a Skaven's ass if they under perform.

Making an army shouldn't be a chore to create an uber powerful list (unless that's what you want then more power to ya), it's a hobby dammit! I should be doing this because I enjoy it so from now on, I'm going to do this my way and screw the rules, I have money!
Well I will next pay day, I got Repanse de Lyonnesse and really need a saw and a new head so I can start my General model!

I do appreciate it Demo, and sorry if I came across as rude at any point. I was really starting to hit my boiling point!

Today I was chatting to a friend at the games club and he did say that people will advise me based on their preferences and experiences. He said that he never took repeater bolt throwers in his Dark Elves as he can never seem to hit with them (despite being BS4) even though people tell him that they're good and can skewer multiple ranks. But as said, he has no luck using them so he chooses not to use them.

So with some advice on my General from Sam the Barkeeper (who wrote a list featuring a 50 strong Swordsmen unit featuring a warrior priest, a BSB with the Griffon standard and two 20 strong Halberdier detachments! Yipe!) and some re-jiggering I've made a list that I feel happy with. And when the time comes to do battle I may find myself needing to re-write it and expand or drop units as needs dictate.
I'll keep it off the thread for now in case someone innocently tries to offer advice or tell me to get rid of something without reading the previous posts causing me to once again start banging my head against the wall over army compositions. However if you wanna know just PM me and I'll be happy to share it just to show it off.

Haha you dident come across as rude mate, dont worry

Everyone can play this hobby the way the want to and with the models they want to. We were just trying to help you make your list seem viable with the experience and knowledge that we have from playing in our groups

About your list, you dont have to give any specifics but could you keep most of the elements that you liked?

    Re: To Ostland!

The thing is, as said, those are your experiences. For all we know I might find it totally different like my mate with this Dark Elves.
I kept most of what I liked, including taking 30 strong halberdiers and swordsmen. I didn't quite fancy relying on hordes (unless we're talking Privateer Press games, then I'd quite like to try Legion, Skorne or Trollbloods!).

    Re: To Ostland!

The thing about hordes is if your opponent has one, but you dont you can have a very hard time breaking them...

First of all that extra rank of attacks can be really nasty, specialy on elite infantry. Second its really easy to block of big parts of the table with a horde, also making it quite hard to flank if your opponent knows what hes doing.

That said they do come with their drawbacks. Since every tunnel has tunnel vision if you have fast cav or normal cav even its pretty easy to get outside their arc of vision. Theyre rather unwieldy to use and generally a huge point investment. If you cast fulminating flame cage on them for example I doubt hes going to move them (unless hes got very good armour/ward saves...) Likewise hexes and augments have an inmense effect on them and getting those spells cast can be very important.

So their use is not without its problems I also think normal infantry benefits more then elite infantry since you can only have 1 supporting attack. Units with more then 1 attack are generally also alot more expensive so only benefit if they can attack with their full 10 model frontage. Otherwise theyre just a pointsink Something that I think helps empire inmensly since our elite infantry only have 1 attack

I take back something that I said earlier though. Beeing a horde doesent give you the stubborn rule. Having more ranks does. So I think in particular your swordsmen would be a very nice anvil with a 5 wide frontage and some supporting characters. Grind your opponent to a halt, hit his flanks and hear the lamentation of their woman ()

Having said all that, a halberdier horde still kicks ass

Thanks. In time I'll probably give a horde a try, but I'd like to experience things first hand for myself. Cheers though.

I'm far from lazy Demo, I just get carried away with making the models rather than painting them!

I can relate to that (apart from the fact that I am lazy)...

Lazy and proud! Self imposed deadlines only work for me if I got some peer pressure. When its present though it works like a charm!

Not to mention I love collecting and playing the games too, painting always slips to the side!

    Re: To Ostland!

In my experience painted models die (Or get injured) faster! I remember my Mordheim Witch Hunter war band had something like that happen when I painted up my captain. Poor guy got taken out and suffered a head wound! Ended up with frenzy though, too bad I never got a game after that.

    Re: To Ostland!

Huh... Inmagine that, my minis perform better when painted! Their first game (whatever painted or not) they always tend to get slaughtered/blown up horribly though... Only have a few exceptions to the rule really!

The exceptions though are the ones who really shine for example in my 40K army an blood angel librarian with assault squad and nearby priest who basicly wiped out my opponents army on their own

In Necromunda, my 2nd heavy who killed an opponents heavy in his first game (with a lasgun! teehee!) and hasent gotten an injury yet (woot)

Everything else though... Lets not get started on those Seems every players armies' behave in their own particular manner
