Re: Dee's Chaos Army of Mammoth Intended Proportions

Nice little log you have here. The chaos warriors look really nice. Nurgle lord looks off to a decent start. I can't think of what it is right now but it has to be something to do with the armor and chainmail. Sorry dude.

I will be watching with great interest.

The skin looks great, just like the guy who died of gluttony in 7even The green bruising under his sagging flesh is something I hadn't thought of before - looking good so far!

    @ Glenning

Thanks mate. I wanted to try something a little different with the skin. The basecoat was beleive or not Reaper MSHD Meadow Green. But I think it worked. However having thought about it an looked at my picture reference

I need to add a few more pale yellow/white glazes to the skin to really make it tasty

    @ Sicarius

    Cheers Andy

    @ Dino

Thanks matey. Armour I have just basecoated and the chainmail I haven't even touched yet

    @ Evil Hypnotist

Me neither mate, came to me yesterday whilst I was eating lunch at work.

    @ Bennonator

Not as bad as some I have made....Sent a letter to a client (I work in the law) and I hit the "T" instead of the "R" when typing The Shire (yes the property is called that and they should burn for it!!)

I have currently been blessed with an almighty cold.......not sure why but everytime I finish a nurgle unit I get ill, when I finished my tourney army I ended up with food poisoning

Re: Dee's Chaos Army of Mammoth Intended Proportions

    You need three things mate.

Water, PVA and Bicarbonate of Soda (try to get slightly coarser stuff as the fine stuff looks poo pants)

mi all three up into a paste and paint it on, then whilst still wet sprinkle on some more bicarb of soda to simulate fresh snow if you want. On the grass etc i tend to use some brush on satin varnish and then sprinkle the bicarb on as painting the mix just looks a mess.

I tried bicarb before and it went yellow over time. Have you tried any of the snow flocks?

Re: Dee's Chaos Army of Mammoth Intended Proportions

yes mate I once used the GW stuff when I got into painting 3 or so years ago.....I was not impressed.

In respect of the yellowing, my slaaneshi giant was done 3 years ago using the bicarb method and its still as white as Tony Montana's stash as it was when it was applied. Only time anything like that has happened to me was when I was basing the Khorne Dragon but that was because of some leaf litter I was using on the base that bled into the snow. was easy to remedy though, just a little more snow on top once the original was dry.

    if anything try Deluxe Materials

    http://www.deluxematerials.com/

I have heard some good things from military modeler friends of mine about it. I actually have some but I brought it for the icy sparkles (which you can't get solo) and havent used any of it yet. How could any one resist a product called Icy Sparkles!!!

    Hey Dee

Great stuff! Also very impressed at the high quality of the batch process.

I was surprised at the snow base in my head I envisaged a cracked earth base ala Menoth in Warmachine but the snow works!

Re: Dee's Chaos Army of Mammoth Intended Proportions

That model is simply gorgeous.. you know, in a very rotten kinda way!
the depth in the color of the skin is what I find myself drawn to just stare at. amazing work man.. I wish I could get out of the cartoony painting of mine and into the more realistic type like this.
A shake of this and a sprinkle of that, then BAM!!!! It's my PLOG! (contains dark elf, dwarf, lizards and more)

Read through your whole log today, and I must take my hat off to you sir! Fantastically yucky looking nurglites there mate! Excellent gore, thinking outside the box with a gross hairy back unclean one, lots of great stuff there. I'll keep my eyes peeled on this log and glean some ideas to improve my nurgle renegade guardsmen. Your flesh tones are just sick!

    @ dwarfhold13

Thanks mate. Way to avoid cartoony painting......read what GW say and then do the opposite has worked for me also study the French, Spanish and Italians they have a very naturalistic style of painting that I myself am trying to push myself screaming and kicking towards.

    @ Dino

Spikes I am not sure I was thinking painting them like fly's legs but think I will probably bottle it and just go with some blended ivory tusks.....not sure. Next up I will be starting converting my Nurgle Warshrine.

    @ nuklearangel

Thanks matey, no doubt you have read what happened at Golden Demon with my Great Unclean One then, but at least I have a really cracking model as a result.....Alan Merritt can't take that away from me!

I should keep that particular urge to yourself mate :P That typo made me spit my tea over my keyboard this monring pal.

Green Armour - Basecoat of Reaper Master Series (RMS) Muddy Green then blending up to RMS Olive Green, then RMS Swamp Green and the final highlight was a glaze of RMS Linen White. Shade was added in two stages, first a glaze of a mix of 50% RMS Muddy Green and 50% RMS Pure Black and then a final glaze in the darkest areas of RMS Pure Black.

Rust - Basecoat RMS Chestnut Brown (The model is covered with pitted areas for the rust but seemed a little too uniform so I feathered out this basecoat albeit a very thinned version of it) I think highlighted the rust with RMS Orange Brown and then 50/50 mix of RMS Orange Brown/RMS Linen White. You could be lazy and use weathering powered here probably give you a similar result.

That just looks great. Been thinking about getting that model and painting it myself. How did you like painting it compared to other plastics or other (metal or FC) characters?
