This looks really interesting. I look forward to seeing the results.
so, my first log....
I am slowly getting started with this, I am still waiting for some 40 mm bases from GW and some (that is a lot) bits from hoard o bits, but i can show you what i have done so far:
To left is the original bases, in the middle is instant mold, and to the right is my finished bases.
it was the first time I used instant mold, so I am pretty amazed how well it worked!
And the result, I am pleased.... now i only need a couple of more of those, like 18 more...
Here is the raw material that I am going to use:
So my idea is gnoblar controlled murdermachines!
something like this:

but with more ogre markings, gut plates and the like, i probably need to fantisylize the weapon equipment as well!
I am aiming for a 2400 army, and this is what i have thought of so far:
Tyrant - sword of antiheroes, armor of destiny, ruby ring of ruin, iron fist
-20 komp, 315 pts
Firebelly - lvl 1, Rocks eye
- 7 komp, 125 pts
Firebelly - lvl 1, Dispell scroll
- 22 komp, 145 pts
Bruiser - BSB, Gnoblar thiefstone, heavy armor, ironfist
-17 komp, 183 pts
6 Ironguts - FC, lookoutgnoblar
-16 komp, 293 pts
6 Ironguts - FC, standard of disk, lookoutgnoblar
-20 komp, 308 pts
6 Maneaters - Poison, Sniper, FC, Brace of pistols (alla), Flaming banner, Lookoutgnoblar
-28 komp, 441 pts
Iron blaster
-14 komp, 170 pts
Iron blaster
-24 komp, 170 pts
Thundertusk
-15 komp, 250 pts
Totalt:
11,7 in komp and 2400 pts
if the "komp" is confusing, look at this document:

"Fantasy-Kompmallen v 1.0"
don't worry, it is in english
this is how the progress looks like, the fella with the BIG ball of fire, is the firebelly:
i have ordered several gears and stuff to make the little machines look a little more fantasy-like
i am also planning to mount several "help-gnoblars" all over the machines to make them more alive
Ordered to make new models:
Deff dread => thundertusk
2 Steam tanks => 2 iron blasters
Gears etc => fantasy-size
I have no idea which model to use for my tyrant,
he has to be a little bit extra!

wow, this is some very amazing work.
not 100% sold its gonna be easy to figure out what is what (kinda like that cube tzeench army we seen awhile ago), but should look stunning on the table.
A truly unique project, I love it.
Can't wait to see more!

This is an interesting project. The risk is that it will end up looking like a 40k ork army rather than gnoblar machines. I would try to add more ogre bits or other more organic stuff (animal skins, horns, skulls ...).
I guess it will also depend on the paint scheme whether you can make it look convincing as a fantasy army. I would probably go for copper/bronze for the metals rather than iron to give it more steampunk feel.
My project log: To Infinity and Beyond
i have the same fears as you about the whole "40k"-feel,
and the organic stuff is in the planning stage...
great tip about color scheme. it is my ambition to try OSL (glowjob) on these guys, the copper/bronze idea might just be what i need
ideas are always appreciated!

You could try painting some of the pieces as wood. Brown, with a handful having woodgrain painted on. You'd only need a little freehand for the front rank models to give the wood impression.
Instantly gets it away from 40K.
This looks like it could turn out pretty cool!
Very fun idea.
At first I just scanned through the photos and had no idea what was going on. I think you could have a really unique looking army, though. I agree with the previous posts about trying to "fantasy" it up more. More bits, and a fantasy color scheme will really pull this thing together.
Again, very cool project. I look forward to following this plog.
I can't tell you how much i love this idea
I do really like the idea of the army but like some other people have said it is a little bit too 40k! You should have just done a kills kan ork army!? Love the bases btw!

Haha, really cool idea. Keep working on it!

This is a very cool project, mate. Great idea and awesome execution.
Cheers.
I got finals coming up...
so it will prob. be a couple of days until I can update with more pictures....
on the to do list:
* receive models and materials from mail order (2 steam tanks, dreff dread, GREENSTUFF and some gears from ebay)
* build new models!
* instant mold greenstuff on movementtrays to make them look AWESOME
* finish building 6 ironguts (2nd unit)
* build 2nd firebelly
* build BSB bruiser
* build tyrant (from what...?) <-- awesomeness
* make current models look more fantasy, with bits, greenstuff and paint job
* paint!

might i suggest some additions like wooden paneling sometimes, and wheels, scraps from say cannons, mortars, skaven machines and the like just to help you keep your fantasy theme, maybe have 1 say carried by gnoblars, one of the back of some creature. for the tyrant i think it just needs a ork dred, that way he still looks similar but bigger.
I felt this post needed some structure!
look for the details!
New items:
Modified man-eaters:
"i just made a big change in the man-eaters, if you can see the 2nd rank, they are not wielding flamethrowers, but cutters for crap that the first rank shoots...
and oh yeah, they are crawling with gnoblars!"
"rank and files"
Firebelly:
Bsb, with banner:
Ironblaster!
more to come!
