Thank you. Tossing up whether to put the yellow gems on them or sky blue...

The recepie if memory serves is based around 3 colours and a wash. Usual mixing for some shading.

Snakebite Leather > Bubonic Brown > Golden Yellow > Ogryn / Gryphonne Wash.

Thanks, it was exactly what I was going for. They're still a rich green, but I was aiming for a jungle look - that yellow-y green.

Also; what colour do you guys think I should do the banding?

Naturally I'm leaning towards gold, because on the box its yellow... but I wouldn't mind deviating. I'm tossing up with a pale white with a blue tint wraithbone, but I don't think it suits the stealthy nature of them.

    Nor does gold though.

    Perhaps grey?

For the 'yellow' banding the first thing that came to my mind was Panzer Dunkelgelb or US Army Sand or Vallejo English Uniform...if you're working in the GW range, that might be Iyanden Darksun mixed with graveyard earth or something like that. The idea is that you use what's really a khaki/drab color with a distinct yellowish tint. I think that will look "right" to those used to seeing green scorpions with yellow accents, but keep that subdued military tone you've achieved.

Aside from that I think a medium to dark grey with some faint blue tones would work.

Yeah, I just don't want to stick too closely to the box scheme. I might roll with a dark blue grey. I'm also thinking of Amber gems. The Chainsword I'm tossing up between bone with white teeth or black with bone teeth. I'm actually leaning towards bone with white teeth.

    Thank you!

If you go with a drab yellow, I reckon that'd tye them together nicely. Then you could use the brighter yellow for gems.

Yeah quite possibly. I'll have to mess around a bit.

In other news: I'm going to be prepping my Cobra and Lynx for assembly. I'm considering stripping my Void Dragon Phoenix and repainting it too.

    Here is the image:

It has nice freehand and shading, but I don't really like the colourscheme.

I'm tossing up between stripping it, and just respraying it.

Anyone have any opinion the matter? Or suggestions for what to strip it with?

For the record if I repaint it I was planning Biel-Tan colours with plenty of thorns, runes and motifs.

Can you share a close up of the pilots just for curiousity sake? I have a void dragon phoenix i picked up second (third?) hand, but the previous owner thought he could get the canopies to fit on better if he hacked off the pilots' heads from the chin up. I'm replacing mine with Razorwing pilot helmets, but I always wondered what they were supposed to look like.

That is a fairly nice paint job, especially the freehand runes, which I'm incredibly jealous of, but I agree the color scheme doesn't seem to pop all that much. Between the two options I'd suggest respraying it and building from there, but that really depends on that freehand work, if it really sticks out you'll have to strip it.

I'm jealous, I've been wanting to buy a Void dragon for years, as soon as I can I will ><, even though some Reapers and Tantalus are first on the to buy list. Colors are nice, nice runes on it.

Green: I can if you can give me another day or two, I've been pretty busy and I have a friends birthday on the Sydney Mardi Gras weekend, so it'll probably be pretty busy.

Fable: I'm more worried of the red showing through and tinting everything pink / red tbh. I'm not too concerned with the freehand, it is a good excuse to try something better.

kharandil: Awesome model, though I only really use it in apocalypse and it doesn't do all that much >_> the Lynx however, that is a sexy model. Actually cleaned mine ready for assembly today. Have some bubble filling to do and then we're good.

Sorry for the lack of updates, since Thursday I'm pretty busy, and Sunday I'm not sure of what I'm doing / what state I'll be in / how sober I'll be to paint.

That said, during the week I do have atleast 15 hours during the day between uni to do something.

Re: Bahzhakhain - Tempest of Blades (Biel Tan, Eldar)

Had a day off, so I did some painting.

I have to do the gems on the guns and grenades. Probably will do all gems bar the soulstone as Amber. Soulstone will be blue, keeping in consistency with the rest of my army.

I'm getting a tad lazy, not pushing the highlights as high as theyh can go on the pouches, gun and grenades, but I didn't think it was too necessary. Opinions?

I'm not very good at photographing large models, but here are a couple of the Pheonix. I will probably strip it unfortunately, the colour scheme just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I think they look really good as they are. They have a good amount of depth to them .

As for the phoenix, it looks good but isn't in the right colours... I'm sure you can find a scheme much nicer to paint it with, especially with the quality of everything else in this thread!

I think those Scorpions look fantastic! Love the shade of green you got going. Looks phenomenal!

Yeah. It is a bit of a shame, but I'll do it as Biel-Tan I think. Plenty of thorns and runes for it.

It isn't the quality I'm talking about, it is me taking shortcuts That said, I always enjoy painting armour, but not weapons unless they are swords. (Something about handles.)

Thanks man, I'm pretty happy with them myself. I don't think the gold is very "scorpiony" but as you mentioned earlier, very traditional.

You know, it was your own PLog that made me say to myself "I'm going to do a Biel-Tan army" I still have it bookmarked so I can go back to it every now and then. I really just like your tanks and the muted tones you use.

Anyway, time for an update. There is a tiny bit left to do, but I didn't feel like painting anymore for tonight. Just a gun and some gems + tidying up some parts on the arms, and I'm onto the best part! Freehand!

I'm thinking purple gems on the gun, and the barrel thingy is grey or bronze or purple?

As for freehand, I'm tossing up Scorpion Rune on the helmet, though the Exarch has an embossed one. I'm definitely going to do a Biel-Tan thingy on their left knee.

    Thoughts?

I think they look great. As for metallics on Scorpions, mine are kinda desert sand and black but the sword teeth, sensor dreadlocks and inner face plates are a reddy, copper colour. I think it works with the colour scheme of the Scorpions and my Craftworld as a whole.

Re: Bahzhakhain - Tempest of Blades (Biel Tan, Eldar)

Those scorps are are phenominal! Well done. I think the purple gems will work with the grey weapons and I think a different shade of grey "barrel thingie" would be my pick, but it depends on how your other shuricats are done. I wouldn't do the bronze because it would look too much like the scorpion's armour accents and using different colors lets it stand out a little.

The freehand is all you. I can't really comment on what to do there, but your other pics indicate you have that part down. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.

And thanks for the shots of the phoenix cockpit.

While I'm not keen on the scorpion models, and tend to prefer eldar without any metallic colours, I like yours. I don't know what this means for you, but for me it's an education.

For the scorps.. I think you need more contrast - the masks at least. But your green has some decent depth.

Yeah I was thinking this, but I don't want to go too light. I think I might have to shade it down.

Also, won't see an update for a little bit, I have to bust out a LotR dwarf army by April 1. So far it's goin aite.

Had a good couple of months off, painted many LotR dwarves.

Back to business now - finishing off the scorpion squad. I'm not sure whether the light is bleaching the colour or if it is the paint. The problem, even while having documented the paint scheme is getting an exact match. It's pretty close though.
