Please Sir, can I have some Maw?? VN's Ogre log

    See what I did there....?

    Hail brothers!

Well I figured it was finally time to take the plunge into WFB, and what better army than the mighty Ogre Kingdoms??

Just to get me started, I splashed a bit of paint on the new Firebelly....

One of my favourite models ever made by GW, but for some reason I didn't enjoy painting it... Rather pleased with the results though, so nevermind! Let me know what you guys think, and look out for plenty MAW in the very near future!

Looks great! Nice fire you got there... I like the smoke effects too Really good.. I must admit that hs skin is a bit "raw" though But great overall job mate.. Keep up the good work - and good luck with the painting log ..

    Washes washes washes

This could use another layer of highlight.

Yeh I'd probably agree about the skin... However the intention is to get these guys to a decent gaming standard in a (relatively) short space of time, so a simple basecoat and dip is definitely the way to go!

You're using dip? What are your thoughts? I hear differing opinions on the stuff.

This guy is definitely up to playing standards, though- so that works out. And you can always go back when you have more time and punch up the highlights as others have suggested. So that while you're playing you can slowly improve it bit by bit- possibly while the other guy's taking his turn

I love it! I've used it on all my armies so far, and have no intention of changing any time soon! Being the lazy painter, but avid collector that I am, it gives me the perfect method of getting plenty of models done to a good standard in a short space of time. Check out the links in my sig to see how I've used it on my other projects. I'm using Army Painter Strong tone, and it works wonders!

Great fire effect! looks really nice

I once tried out dip and that was on a ogre army. I found that the many flat areas of the ogre got kinda ruined, compared to how smaller minis worked with the dip. I dog get the lazy part though, and I don't frown upon dip painters. The quicker you can paint to a nice standard, the better

    Riiiiiise from your grave!!

Well it's been a little while since I updated this log, but I sure haven't forgotten about it!

The story is this... While I was putting my Ogres together, I found that I really wasn't inspired with them, despite loving the background and the conversion potential of the models. The problem is that all the RnF look exactly the same... Now I've seen some amazing armies on here, but I just wasn't prepared to put in the conversion or painting time on models I wasn't inspired by.

So after my brief moment of despondency, I had a thought (just the one mind you). Anyone who knows me will know that I have something of a penchant for old school models... So I decided to apply this to my Ogres too! There are so many characterful and varied old school Ogres, so after a spending spree on eBay I had an army that I was inspired by.

So that's my story.... I now present some *very* shoddy pics of the army in its initial construction stages:

    Bulls:

    Ironguts:

    Butcher:

    Slaughtermaster:

Hope you like em! There's still a bit of work to be done, but then painting commences. As I expand the army, I will be including newer models too (MFC, Ironblaster, converted MEs), so look out for them too.

Comments welcome, even at this early stage!

The thread title alone would have been enough to get me to subscribe, but then you add that excellent firebelly and a gut-load of my favourite old ogre models! Cheers mate!

Haha I'm glad you like it, I was proud of that one

I'm pleased to say that despite my many other distractions (World Eaters, Daemons and a Forge World Great Unclean One...) I have managed to get some work done on the fat lads and I have a little update for you!

Got my first Ogre Bull done, the old school Ogre Gladiator:

Also got a couple of Sabretusks done:

Also converted some fancy pistol-toting Maneaters:

Hope you like em! Comments welcome chaps!

The firebelly looks good and the maneaters are just all round good. Rather like the Chaos dwarf maneater, hope to see the old ogres painted up too.

The man eaters are great. I'm looking forward to seeing them painted.

You're definitely on your way to a very characterful army! I agree with you about the standard ogre rank and file being a bit predictable, but you've come up with a great solution. Your pistol maneaters are great as well. Very much looking forward to seeing more from you.

    Keep up the great work!
