Question An idea on Fame Factor...

    Hi all...

Given that some teams (goblin teams, I'm mainly looking at you) are, in the fluff, described as having a steady following, but the Fame Factor rules seem to just use wins or losses to improve it, I just (thanks to the card game thread) had the following idea...

If a team sustains a high number of casualties (maybe 5+), they should get a bonus to their Fame Factor rolls as if they'd won a game... I'm sure that some teams have a following just because they go SPLAT regularly (we all know how much some BB fans like the gore more than the win/lose). It would also help such teams to earn more money after a really bad game to help them pick up the pieces for later matches. It wouldn't deter the fouling to weaken teams (they'd still have fewer skilled players in later games) but it would make the weaker teams a little more appealing to play since they'd have slightly more rerolls and be better able to replace players.

On a similar note, allowing a player to choose between a +1 for high numbers of casualties inflicted or the +1 for the win, may also help make the game reflect the fluff... I did consider allowing both, but that may encourage fouling rather than gameplay.

Ideas? Comments? Would this make money too easy to get? Would the second idea encourage teams to just slaughter the weaker teams just to get the Fan Factor roll bonus?

I like this tbh. It would give high casulty game another factor than just an advantage on the field. And also give an boost for the tier3 teams against teams like pro elves that will score plenty of TD (if they get hold to the ball and they will get hold of the ball... mostly) and gain alot more SPP.

What about if both teams get 5+ casualties? will the 1 with most casulties deny the other team to get + in FF or do both get the bonus?

If losing team get more than 5+ casulties will they get to roll with 2D6 to see if they lose Fan Factor first and then 2D6(or 3D6) in attempt to improve the Fan Factor or just roll to improve Fan Factor

Btw, its a diffrence on Fan Factor and Fame Factor but I got your point .

Ooops... yeah, Fan Factor... damned snotling secretaries...

I'd suggest both - after all, if over 10 casualties were sustained in a game, the fans would love it - especially if you used rules that gave FF for dealing casualties too... but then 10+ casualties in a game would be something that BB fans would pay huge money to see...

Could actually be funny, seeing an "Ogre" team with pretty much all snotlings actually gaining FF though... just through being creamed each game, but I think the main winners of this rule would be the goblins and halflings.

Ah yeah, i think i misunderstod your concept, well it works well either way. A team that smash the opponent with 5+ casultys get a bonus(because they caused a freaking mayham) or a team that get raped for a 5+ casulty (they got SPLATTED!) gets a +5, either way crowd would like it. Well thats why it kinda evens it out when you come to think about it.

Tho i cant see gobbos as a "get raped" team, because last time i played gobbos i hade 1 looney + the chainsawstarplayer + chainsaw magic card and killed 3 players first round and 2 casultys (that didnt involve death), second round 1 more died on opponents team (heheh his witch elf aka The Bitch with a value of 170k). Well im kinda blessed with the dice so that might be a corret % of how it normaly would turn out. Just wanted to put out that gobbos can hurt people with a little luck.

keep on pounder about this idea and you probably come up with something nice

Hehe I actually played goblins on the computer game with an experienced orc team a while back and ended up with 9 casualties inflicted, several KOs inflicted and only a single casualty sustained (and a few players sent off).

Black Orc + Block + Tackle + Mighty Blow (+Piling On, in one case) and goblins can go *squish* quite satisfyingly...

My best so far, though, was the Halfling team I played - 11 inflicted - only 3 still able to play at the end, 1 of those KO'ed. Missed the last TO though thanks to my boyz being too happily trying to see if they could stomb a halfing completely into the ground head first... and getting sent off...

Yeah, my Orc team's there to relieve tension after playing my Elf teams (got Pro and Dark Elf teams too)... so not quite so worried about scoring when I play them, except to keep the money flowing in.

I'd be worried, though, about rewarding excessive casualties inflicted in case it encouraged teams to kill off teams like I've heard in competitive play... but I guess that's Blood Bowl. Personally, I consider it stupid - if you weaken a team that heavily, you're just making it easier for the other teams who'll play them after you, so making it more likely that you'll face another strong team come the playoffs... and I'd also suggest that you're making it more likely that another player will pull the same stunt on you if they're able, even if they're not normally prone to that kind of thinking.

Maybe setting the bar higher for the team inflicting casualties? Lower, so they don't feel they need to inflict more?

I just like the idea that the fluff is actually written into the game - for one thing, it explains why Halfling and Ogre teams still have fans, such as the Greenfield Grasshuggers who are supposed to only rarely win a game - under the rules, they'd hardly have any fans... it'd be nice to see them boosted.

One of these days, I'm going to want to get myself both a gobbo and pintsize team, I think - just to see if I can actually BEAT someone...

interesting idea, and this kind of happened in LRB4, you got rewarded for injuring players etc. but fanfactor is pretty much pointless now, I would prefer to keep mine down if possible not have it inflated increasing my teams TV for nothing on the pitch

Ah, yeah. Didn’t think on it from that point of view. Gobbos kinda depends on the inducements they can get and with an increase in Fan Factor would just lower the amount of inducement they would get so it would kinda bite em in the ass
