Thread: Ancient Greek, Spartans.

    Ancient Greek, Spartans.

After years of silence, i now return to the hobby with a new project. Fabulous miniatures from the ancient era. My Spartans from Immortal miniatures.

    http://www.immortalminiatures.com/miniatures.html

The box i ordered came with 36 incredibly detailed miniatures, a plethora of different spears shields helmets and bodies.
Ordered from www.warlordgames.com for 16 quid.

Here is some work in progress...

A blurred photo of one of the Spartans.

Converted from a miniature in bronze armour, i cut of the legs and reshaped his position and then added a cloak.

The same Spartan with some paint.

And finally, the three figures that I have started with.

    Hope you like them!

I thought there would be some replys here by now? That one minie better stay away from any mountain area hail storms.

I have a box of the plastic Greeks. I have a plan for more minies, plastic ones that is. I will be acquiring some (more) Persians (likely the WGF ones).

My usual opponents are not too wild about Ancient Greeks, Persians or whatever.
I am therefore I think OR I think therefore I am?

And just a small update, added the sword and helmet to all the minis i have done so far, this is again my proudest conversion.

Feel free to leave any comments. They will boost my low self-esteem.

Sheesh, guys see a penis and get all scared off. Maybe some of them have never seen one before?

Looking good so far! I like the pose, it reminds me of this famous painting.

    Re: Ancient Greek, Spartans.

    You sculpted him naked.

p.s. admittedly that may be historically accurate, but either way my small joke remains.

    So here's the update

First some work in progress, the king in his bronze armour in the middle, this is the body of the naked Spartan i converted.

Next up is the heavily converted Efialtes with his humpback.

    Almost done...

    And finally a group-shot.

    Sorry for bad picture quality...

Comments and critics are always welcomed.
On the other hand, you can always check out the other Greek thread, which I found yesterday. Incredibly beautiful miniatures that have inspired me and made me reevaluate my work. Here is the thread.

Seems not too many people frequent the historical logs, but these guys are looking great so far! Nice work all around. I have a set of Immortal's Classical hoplites all built up but haven't managed to paint a single one yet (still have ~80 Celts to paint before I even think about the Greeks...).

That conversion is awfully well done, nice work integrating the detail of the bronze cui rass into the sculpt. I think they'll look quite good all painted and ranked up!
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

VERY cool. I like how you made that leading Spartan nude - it didn't happen historically, but it's exactly how they fantasized about it themselves! To be so tough you don't need plate.

    Keep 'em coming!

Good Spartans and attention to detail. I wince just by looking at the picture with the nude Spartan at the front. So vulnerable...

That's right, Spartan soldiers were probably better equipped than soldiers from other city states just because they were a full time army. That means that they probably spent more on their armour. The naked spartan is just an heroic picture of the ancient greeks. But yes, he is cool and i planning to have two more in the unit.

And for the rest of you guys out there that actually follows the blogg, thanks, it means alot to me. But i'm sorry, there will be no more updates this week, i'm running low on Devland mud for the armour. And i'm also waiting for reinforcement. During that time i will just spend some work on making cloaks. And work on my Warhammer Bretonnians. But stay tuned, soon there will be pictures here again.

    Re: Ancient Greek, Spartans.

I don't see why they wouldn't have fought naked - ancient armour wasn't exactly light, and spartans were smart enough to know the value of speed. They also weren't know for keeping records of what they did...
