    TarryM's Projects of Randomness

So after having some reasonable feedback on other plogs I'd start (see signature) I thought it was best to keep my non-army / terrain projects separate.

Unfortunately as I have plenty of stuff to paint for my armies and terrain, this plog is likely to be updated only infrequently however I hope for a quality over quantity approach

    So without further ado...

So to start off this project log I have a unit of Cold One Knights (Dark Elf, rather than Lizardmen!). Pretty much as soon as this plastic kit was released I knew I wanted to have a go at painting them. Although I was tempted by a small army of Dark Elves, I knew that my other armies would just suffer as a result So I decided to make a display piece out of the Knights instead...

The base is going to follow a winter theme. With rocks and dead tree branches poking out of the snow - and I'd also like to try and get some Cold One footprints in the snow where possible

I've under-coated the various parts tonight, and intend to progress this in parallel alongside some terrain pieces. Watch this space...

I was the same as you when the cold one knights were released so I have a box of them sitting in amongst the hordes of other boxes I have. I'm looking forward to seeing you you approach them colour wise.

Oh and welcome to the randomness!

Same here, actually. I even have them assembled and undercoated. That was when they were released. Hahaha... Well, that is why we are the Randomers, I suppose.

    Re: TarryM's Projects of Randomness

Well here is the next update on progress. As I mentioned in an earlier post, things will be pretty slow as I have plenty else going on at the moment.

So I did a trial run of a snowy base. At first I thought I would go for a "spring-thaw" style and have grass emerging from beneath the snow. This was the result...

My girlfriend quite likes this. However personally I think it looks too messy. One of the reasons I like a snowy base is because of the smooth "virgin" snow look where it's nice and smooth. This prototype base makes the snow look messy, broken up, and even a little "clumpy".

So, I've managed to finish painting the base itself. Nice and simple, black spray undercoat with grey dry-brushing on the rocks and brown/black inks on the dead branches to bring out their colours.

I've also started covering the base with snow. I'm aiming for a smooth covering of the larger (flat) rocks, and then a scattered covering elsewhere.

Reasonably pleased with this. So I intend to cover the rest of the base in the next couple of days - possibly with the exception of the rocks which the cold ones will be standing on.
