You can't just insert a separate step where the weapon rolls to hit, and then you go "okay, well, it's not the weapon anymore! no AP- for me!" and roll Haywire on those hits the weapon caused.

I can understand why you'd be having quite a bit more success with Storm Crypteks if you're choosing to play it that way, but it's really not a proper interpretation.
    +1

I use a lightning field in my league list and it has proven to be incredibly fierce in many games. It really does come down to luck but after having multiple players get bent over by it, it has acquired a massive fear factor. I add to that power by throwing it into a 20 blob of warriors with an mss lord and nemesor. Unless it's early game, the blob is given counter-attack and is played aggressively. MSS and LF can be counter-productive at times but with smart placement, MSS usually hits a specialist to negate the conflict. The staff the cryptek comes with is just like any other weapon upgrade for them. It's "free" and situational. However I always welcome an extra four S5 shots coming out of the blob against infantry.

Re: Tactica: 5th edition Necrons codex.

I was aware this rule is treated different in certain gaming groups so I read the FaQ's for eldar, darkeldar and necron on this before posting as they have haywire weapons. But because the staff causes an haywire effect in addition to the normal strenght 5 hit I do think its a different ability.
Anyway, I'll play it without the AP- effect. (even if it is just to keep myself from taking just destruction cryptecs )

Still has anyone had succes with the transmorgification cryptecs?

Tesla is an effect like Haywire is, it is listed in the exact same way. So you can play Tesla hits without the AP- effect too!

Re: Tactica: 5th edition Necrons codex.

    EMERGENCY! :

The big tourny I was talking to you about about two weeks ago (or so) is coming in a very fast pace and I was told Wraiths are almost not allowed. The conversion should be very good.(I cannot use Tyranid Raveners or so) So, wraiths are out of the list, and I only got 1-2 weeks to find out what I'm gonna use instead of wraiths and also paint 6 vehicles.

    Here's my list so far:

    Necron Overlord (WarScythe) -CCB: 180pts
    Necron Overlord (WarScythe) -CCB: 180pts

    Lance/Chrono Court(4 HoD,1HoE, 1SP,1Chrono):200pts
    Lance/Chrono Court(3 HoD,1HoE, 1SP,1Chrono):165pts
    HoDe(1 VoD):60pts

    5 Warriors(Ghost Ark):180pts
    5 Warriors(Ghost Ark):180pts
    8 Immortals(tesla)-136pts

    Annihilation Barge:90pts
    Annihilation Barge:90pts
    Annihilation Barge:90pts

So, that's 199 points to use.

I was thinking either a mix of Warrior-Scarabs or Destroyers(my list lacks Anti-Infantry SO MUCH) or Heavy Destroyers. (Those are the models I have already and are also painted and ready for the tourny).

1.) I could use two squads of 6 scarabs, and an extra warrior.
2.) I could use one squad of 6 scarabs, and add 8 warriors so as to make 3 squads of 6 warriors.
3.) I could use three Heavy Destroyers, and an extra warrior.
4.) I could use 4 Destroyers, and 3 extra warriors.
5.) I could use 15 more warriors, so as to have 2 squads of ten (to benefit from the regen of the Ark) and one five-man to be held in reserve for some late game objective grabbing.
    6.) I could use 10 scarabs, and 6 more warriors. (5-5-6)
    7.)...

Make your own suggestions please. I'm leaning towards 6.) since I need the extra troops (probably) and the 10strong scarab squad can also make for a very good, survivable tarpit unit.

Re: Tactica: 5th edition Necrons codex.

How about another 5 (or 6) warriors in a ghost ark (actually in it, not buying it for something else to ride in)? More Av13 saturation, another scoring unit that your opponent probably won't prioritize dealing with, a reasonable total gauss output, and (assuming at least 1 of your other ghost arks is for Crypteks), it can add more warrior-rebuilding support. Could also potentially slow down an enemy advance with strategic parking, even if not really a "tarpit".

    2x5 scarabs, 2x MMS and 2x a 2+ save for your lords.

i would suggest buffing up the warrior units that you already have
unless they are going to be hiding on an objective in cover they will die quite quickly
and they wont really benefit from the ghost arks rebuilding thing because getting rid of 5 warriors in 1 round of shooting is too easy

The warriors are held in reserve to run on the field for fast objective snatching. The courts snatch the ghost arks. You also have 2 turns of night fighting to keep those warriors even longer alive.
But its good its mentioned because messing this up will result in an instant fail game fast.

Re: Tactica: 5th edition Necrons codex.

I'm sorry I didn't clarify. Ghost Arks are for my Courts. MSU Warriors are hidden in reserve until they come in late game to get some objectives. I don't really even try to take advantage of the Regeneration Rules of the Ark. Sometimes get it, but only as a lucky bonus.
    As per the 3 missions:
-Killpoints: I hide the warriors in reserve for as long, and when they enter i try to hide them and immediately throw them on the ground.

-Capture And Controll: I'll always place my objective at the EDGE of my deployment zone, in the far corner, behind cover, away from my enemy. So, when my warriors come out of reserves, they can immediately score and can survive.(that's my favourite scenario)

-Seize Ground: That's when things get a little tricky. I try to rely on my Immortals for the mid-table objectives, contest with my fast units and grab as much as I can with the warriors when they come out of Reserves.

Plus, they are also protected by NightFightin for a portion of the game.

If you have any Spyders at all, I'd consider 3 Spyders/3 Scarabs long before multiple-Scarab options.

But just chucking some vanilla Destroyers in there honestly might be the best option in your circumstances--you shouldn't have any problems openning Transports with the two Courts and five Barges.

I can't really change the rest of the list, as it is mostly what I have practised. Also, the tournament in in two weeks and I wouldn't like to have to paint even more. Also, I don't have any spyders either!

So do you think I should reduce the Immortals squad to 7 and add 5 Destroyers? Or go with 4 Destroyers and a couple of upgrades on my OLords?

I also find that I would be very weak against TEQ's. I'm really missing the Wraith punch. Man, they were my solution to everything. Whatever my list couldn't handle, I would use my wraiths to face it. TEQ's, Purifiers, Mech, MC's...

Bah, I find my list without wraiths lacking. And that lack is disturbing, but I guess I have to do it without them..

I find your lack of wraiths....disturbing.

Jokes aside, seems pretty retarded on the part of organisers to not allow wraiths to be played seeing as how there's no freaking model for it yet.

Well, I always advocate for the 2+ armour upgrade on OLords, just so it's that much harder to torrent them down once they lose their ride. Aside from that, I'm not entirely sure about the HoDtek, I assume he teleports the Immortals around?

Not only does the VoDtek help me teleport Troops arround, help me a little with Dawn Of War, but also makes them pretty usefull. The only job aside from scoring of my Immortals is to torrent MC's/Deathstars/AntiInfantry. His AP1 flamer is Reaaaaally helping with that (If they ever get in range). He can also force Leaderships! I must say, I haven't used him much, or his teleporting abilities but I guess in certain games he is to be usefull. At least worth it, more than just a another lance!

EDIT: What do you think I should add besides the 2+ saves on the OLords?

I AM allowed, but only heavy conversion are allowed and I really don't have the time or money for something like this, and moreover the new wraith models are coming next month. So I would spend arround 100euros for a squad of 6 wraiths, and get lots of random bitz to actually make a "good" conversion that would be legal in that tournament. Not only that, it would also take time, and as I have already pointed out, time is not my friend.

I would play wraiths if I was allowed to play with Tyranid Raveners ( or so ) that don't have to be chopped to death for epic conversions. I would just borrow any model (my friends play all the armies, so I have access to lots of models) and just go for it, but turns out I have to waste time and money.

Considering there has been a Wraith model out for many years now, thats a bit ... wierd. Are they saying all old Wraiths are now invalid because they got a rules change and there is expected to be a new model at some point in the future? Or is it simply that you can't don't want to get hold of any old wraiths (though it sounds like you USED to use them)?

I hope you arent using any metal immortals, since by the same principle they must be illegal now there is a new model out...and don't forget to apply the same rule to your opponents.

    Mark.

P.S. i am a bit suspicious of the Crypteks too ... since there are no specific representations of the different weapons or wargear on the current models, it is possible that eventually they will get a plastic kit...

I am not clear enough it seems. Sorry for that too, looks like I'm not giving you enough. Metal Wraiths are allowed. More than just allowed! However, I don't happen to have any at the moment and they just appear to have disappeared from everywhere! I have looked for them in my Gaming group, my guild, the forums, anyone joining the tournaments and all the shops in Athens (That's where I live). They are nowhere to be found! Looks like everyone needs them!

Re: Tactica: 5th edition Necrons codex.

Sorry for breaking the conversation (!) but I just been browsing the forum and I didnt see any post regarding the awesomeness or harp of dissonance cryptects on a dectruction unit (4 x destruction + 1 trans. with harp). check out the values for AV % to destroy:

    AV 10 11 12 13
    5 destruction 74,07% 55,56% 37,04% 18,52%
    4 destruction+1 transm 71,30% 54,63% 37,96% 21,30%

however on 4 dest. + 1 trasm. you have the chace to lower the AV by 1 permanently so that it becomes easier to break on next turns. In addition, your cryptec unit now has a chance to destroy AV14, something it didnt had before! remeber that entropic is before the AV roll.

And even not regarding this detail, vs AV10, the 4destruction + 1 transm. are also quite effective (so is a kill more scenario) and negligeble on AV11, being better on every other scenario!

I'd vote for scarabs and another lance for your short battery. That being said, I have zero experience with cc barges, so I'm not sure how they work together.
