    Greek Warband for SAGA

I think Gripping Beast's new SAGA Dark Ages rules will work easily for ancients as well.
And especially with the ancient Greeks!
The city states were in constant competition, as we all know.
And there are always some Persians to fight, too
So a Greek warband seemed a like a good idea.
Well, at least I had an 'official' reason to order some Wargames Factory Plastic Hoplites...

The figures might not be as historically accurate (aspides too small, not enough helmet varieties) as Immortal's Greeks but I really like them.
Well done WGF, and do more Greeks!

    To be continued...

    Cheers

Oh crap! And I thought my Greeks did look good
The bronze effect is really nice, a real feast for the eyes to see. Continue like this, you have all the talent in the world, a real inspiration!

    1. How did you do the bronze

    2. Painted up, the WGF hoplites don't look half bad. I am seeing some conversion potential.

    1. Vallejo Old Gold washed with Devlan Mud. Couldn't be any easier.
    2. You are correct.

Nice looking warband you've got there! Out of curiosity, what's the ratio of bronze to linen cuirasses in the set? I have several Immortal hoplites already, and am planning on grabbing at least one set of the Victrix hoplites if/when they ever come out, but if there are a fair number of bronze cuirasses in this set I may get one to mix'n'match with the other two sets.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

excepting the fact i don't know how to get Valllejo here in the US, yes it does sound extremely simple.

Will you be growing this into an army as well? How many figures are required for SAGA?

Subscribed btw. Oh and pm incoming.

OT. A lot of the local stores I've been in Wisconsin have Vallejo.

Vallejo is one of the more readily available paint lines in my experience, even here in the states. I live in California and both gaming stores I frequent carry it, and I used to live in Denver and two nearby gaming stores there carried it too. I'd be a little surprised if at least one local store didn't carry Vallejo.

If you don't have an LGS that sells Vallejo, I highly recommend The Warstore. I've always had great service from them, and I'm way out west in Washington, so I'm sure FL would be no big deal.

I must say, the WF models look a lot better painted (which is true for all of their minis, I've found). I still like the Immortal hoplites better, but you've done a great painting job and that's done wonders. There's something odd about the leader's sword hand, though.

It is probably open palm. And by that i mean sculpted ready for a weapon to be glued in.

Probably the first time a title made me feel compelled to check out a historical plog, and I am not disappointed. Beautiful paintwork. As stated, the bronze is pure brilliance. I am guessing the "scales" on the outside of the shields are painted by you yourself? Very clever, makes it really interesting to look at, and the emblems on the shields are just... Insanely awesome!

Looks great, but did they really use spears like that, its horribly wobbly to use a spear like that in a single hand.

I do agree about the WGF Greeks (and most of their minies). The price is easy on my wallet and painted up the minies are good unit fillers.

Yes, hoplites did often use their spears overhand. Here's a pottery example, circa 600 BC.
