Finally finished the ironguts! \o/

Just a small update. I’ve blocked out the basic colours on the ironblaster with my airbrush.
It’s in sub assemblies atm, but actually with the rhinox and cart pinned but not glued into the base it’s pretty sturdy when just slotted together. I had intended to start painting the firebelly, but despite my best efforts to avoid the same problems with casting flaws that I had with the yhettes once I’d given it a coat of tallarn flesh I discovered dozens of teeney tiny bubbles that I’d missed so out came the liquid greenstuff again.
I also started working on assembling the scibor war rhino rider, and adding ogrey gubbinz to it. It had a few largish blisters on the belly and throat on it that were easy enough to fill and a bit of flash on the mane that necessitated a tiny bit of resulting but all in all it’s very well cast.
I thought you might like to see some better comparison shots between it and the stonehorn, now that they’re both based properly.
I never did find anywhere selling stonehorn sized bases, so I had to make my own. That there is comprised of a grand total of TWELVE cavalry bases joined together in holy matrimony. It’s actually a few mm or so smaller than the real base as it turns out, but you can’t tell unless you put them back to back. I now have a load of old 5th edition bretonian knights without bases.
Oh, and I took a slightly better army shot which now includes the iron guts, of course.

Wow, it all looks great, especially the snow bases. I'm looking forward to how you paint the new "stonehorn's" skin.
How did you paint the rust? (is it built up from Scorched Brown, tin bitz then drybrush of silver?)
Thanks very much. I'm not entirely sure how I’m going to paint the war rhino's skin yet. Because i already have a stonehorn I figured I'd use it as a thundertusk, but how to paint it? The rocky protrusions on it's hide would make convincing ice crystals if painted in the same way as the yhettes weapons, but I’m not sure what colour I would then paint the skin.
The rusty metal is as follows:
Tin Bitz basecoat
Heavy drybrush with boltgun metal (VGC gunmetal actually)
Wash with badab black
wash with devlan mud
stipple on mig pigments standard rust weathering powder onto flat surfaces and wash it round rivets etc.
with a detail brush apply mig pigments light rust weathering powder inside the darker areas of rust
using a drybrush or just your finger gentle rub the rust to blend it in
light drybrush of boltgun metal all over
Sometimes if the rust is too overpowering I’ll give it another wash of devlan mud to mute it down again, so on the ironblaster I’m going to leave the initial washes until after the weathering powders and see if I can get the same effect. Save on waiting around for another layer to dry. If i remember I’ll try and take some pictures as I’m painting it so you can see a step by step.![]()
Sorry about the quality of the pictures, but i hope that answers your question a bit better. A little bit of pigment goes a long, long way, so use sparingly if you only want light spotting or do what i've done and go crazy if you want a heavier look.![]()
Got a little bit of work done on the rhinox yesterday.

Great army man! Very brutal!
I epecially like how you painted the weathered shields on those two ogres.
Thanks, Horse. Yeah, may fave bit of painting them in the end I think. Broke up the monotony of red trousers - check, flesh - check, metal - check. . .
Finished the Rhinox Tonight and started on the metal areas of the rest of the parts. I really enjoyed painting him for some reason.

A bit more progress made. Metal is all done, the wheels are finished along with the base (minus the snow, of course), the cannon itself is all but done barring a few stones and other dangling fetishes. Next up are the tusks which have had the bone basecoated ready to start on them tomorrow.

All done!
My apologies for the lengthy delay. Normal'ish service will now (hopefully) be resumed. Failing that, see you in another two months!![]()
Fantastic work Laborious! I really like what you did with the horn color. One of the better ogre cannons I've seen. I'm not sure what's going on around the mouth armor of the ogre, it looks like he's been eating snow.
I can't believe I missed so many updates. Seems like things are getting pushed off the front page so fast it's hard to keep track of them.....
Love that ironblaster!

Thanks guys, it's good to be back.
Yeah, it does a bit, doesn't it?It's supposed to be chipped white paint, like on his gauntlet. Now you've mentioned it though I’ve realised I chipped the centre of each tooth and left the edges white, which is not really how stuff chips.
I'll redo them and see how they look then. Thanks.

It totally works on the gauntlet. Glad you can take a critique.![]()

Thanks again guys, glad you like.
I've got another update for you lot, and guess what - it's finished! I know! 2 months to paint the ironblaster and then just a bare 5 days to paint this guy! It's like I was on fire or something . . .
Really fun model to paint (Once I’d filled in all the air bubbles in the damned thing. It was like it was riddled with woodworm), especially the flames. I hadn't intended for the smoke to be quite as dark as that, but I quite like the contrast. What do you guys think?
P.S I fixed the teeth on the helmet, confessor, and it looks much better now. Thanks.I forgot to take a picture of it though so I will endeavour to include one next time. xed the teeth on the helmet, confessor, and it looks much better now. Thanks.
