The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 Month 3 & November WIP

    What is it all about?

The aim of The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters is to help motivate those involved to start and complete their Crews/Bands in the next 6 months.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, their finished minis. They do this each month for the next 6 months. Starting with their first post on the last day of August 2011 and finishing with their last post on the last day of January 2012. So we have this month, whilst everyone signs up, to collect, build, convert, undercoat and otherwise get yourself ready to go with the first work in progress starting in September.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get one 'Joker'. For one month within the half year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 5 Months they have to come up with of painted and based figures. Even for the slow painters that should be at least 1 crew.

If the thread should become too big I will split it, but unlike the other Tales I would like to try and keep it in one thread.

    A WORD ON PHOTOS
640x480 seems to work best OR use thumbnails
Bigger than this results in the scroll bar of doom for many.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q : Am I too Late? Can I still Join in?
A : No you are not too late. Yes you can still join in. Just post on this thread saying which army and how many points you intend to paint.

Q : How much do I have to paint?
A : There is a minimum of one mini per month with the additional WIP pics. Most will aim at more. But one breathtaking mini will take a long time.

Q : Can I include a short narrative with each months post.
A : Yes. We love background stuff. Write as much as you like it will be read and enjoyed by many.

    Q : Can I drop out?
A : No you can't, why should you?

    Two from me this month

I'm not entirely happy with the executioner I've practically finished this month so I'll be carrying on with him this month. Might also have a few surprises coming up

Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 Month 3 & November WIP

For this month I painted up Kryst Sandstalkers, who are elite desert warriors in the quar setting. Throughout the course of the crusade they have shifted from resisting, to being subdued by, and now to rebelling against the Crusader armies.

    Wellsirs, here they are;

First up are a support Rhyfler (KKHRL-20mm "Kriggle") and the Sandstalkers' Yawdryl:

    Then two Rhyflers at-the-ready:

And two Rhyflers running (or waddling...):

And a group shot to top if off:

Not quite as outlandish as last month's quar militia were, but in the end I think these are actually some of my favorite figures in the range. Hope you like 'em!
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

For this month, I've painted up my NE teddy and 3 sorrows from the Pandora box set. I have the 2nd Lilitu almost complete, but I'll save her for next month as I believe it's about completed models?

I'm saving the scared kid from the NE teddy, and will be using him as a dreamer once I sculpt some PJs on him, and put him on a flying stand.

    Cheers!

Funniest/coolest line I've read on Warseer! And a pretty good description of the plogs above.

    Tale of the Skirmish Painters

    Month 1:

The first month I almost finished the Lady J crew, but because of the Rugby world cup I lost all motivation to paint, (48 games of rugby will do that to me) but now I'm back on a roll!

    Lady Justice and her Boys:

Last month I painted these fellas

    Scales of Justice and Peacekeeper:

This month I'm working on Sonnia and her Witch Hunters, And I'll try to post some individual shots too.

This post would be showing a Machine Wraith had I the ability to load up pics. Some technical issue makes it impossible right now. However, after two jokers in the first two months I should show from where I come and where I hope this leads.

Scrapper on the left is now almost done.

The colors in this pic are way too light, but I guess you get the idea.

As soon as I can get this to work here I will load up a pic of the Machine Wraith.

Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 Month 3 & November WIP

These took a while and I just finished painting them. They still need a second layer of dull coat and some static grass, but I need pictures now for the entry of this month.

These are currently the only fast units available to the Britanan in Relics clash; they are a hit and run type of unit called dragoons. With the new skirmish rules now in development (anyone can join making them) they will be an important part of the troops to use. They can’t take much of a beating but most Britanan are rather fragile.

But they come very cheap and even though I want to paint another 13 models for this tale as a warhammer fantasy player even 40k looks like a skirmish game to me.

I am very pleased with the result and will post some pictures again after the static grass has been applied. For now these have to do. Next up are the marksmen, the Britanan snipers, forgoing movement for cover and a better shot.

The battery of the camera just went empty and I only got a few crappy shots, so I will post some better ones of the properly based ones tomorrow. So just a shamefull picture of proof for today.

    Nice work here, guys !
I especially like the psychopathic panda of Easternheretic and the overall look of Warflag's Cryx minis.

For me, here's a little update as I'm back from my japanese holidays : 3 westerner gunners for Helldorado :

Expect more minis for the end of the month, as I still have some HD minis to finish before to paint more Eden minis...

Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 Month 3 & November WIP

    Comment time!
12 points to everyone! Douze point a...

@ emperornorton: commented in your thread!

@ NightseeR: Lovely lass, good idea as a renegade steamfitter. Good painting of the hair.

@ GomezAddams: I love Perdita, she is such a cool chick. Hope the other one isn`t her father trying to keep the boys away? Greetings to the wife, how is it with her and the forums?

@ me: take the pics from a little bit further away, they are looking ugly from so near.

@ robscott: cute squig, your chequered theme is cool.

@ easternheretic: you tempt me to advance the painting of my Teddy, nicely done. Think I will try the panda scheme, too. Concerning the sorrows, hmm … you almost make me like the models.

@ perplexity: first pic is nice even if the minis seem a little bit glossy. Poor quality of the other pics makes me refrain from commenting them.

@ rotocultaxe: I don`t want to date her! The dress is well done.

@ Mr.Feral: Interesting model, but what is that with the sword? Rust on the blade? Blood? If rust I would brighten the edge of the swords, if blood I would…äh… retry?

@ sea.man: love those ogres and cool painting. The Drum and the feathers are top.

@ warflag: love your style, interesting models.

@ Little Joe: will wait for the better pics.

@ tancrede: looking cool! Nice basing and really realistic painting.

@DAGabriel - its dried blood, so why would I need to retry?

    Alright, comments time.

@Emperor Norton: Great stuff man, I follow your plog as well so I get to see your stuff lots!

@NightseeR: Nice mini, and well painted too.

@Gomez Addams: Great work man, I've got Perdita to do this tale as well, I'm looking forward to painting her and the family up.

@DAGabriel: Nice man, those gremlins crack me up.

@Whitwort Stormbringer: Great stuff, those minis are well painted mate. Crazy little fellas, who makes them?

@robscott5598: Nice Gorkers, I like the way you've done your checks.

@easternheretic: That's a big teddy all right, looks great. The purple scheme you've done the sorrows in is nice too.

@Rotokultaxe: Great Belle, I've got some of those to do soon too.

@Mr Feral: Wow, that mini is pretty out there. What's it for?

    @sea.man: Cool ogre, that's a helluva pistol he's got.

@Little Joe: Awesome little puppet centaurs, they look great man.

@Tancrede: Wow, those look awesome! Those Helldorado minis are really nice, what's the game like?

Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 Month 3 & November WIP

@ Mr Feral: I don`t know, dried blood is kind of odd, in my imagination swordfighters tend to hold their blades in high regard and either they have fresh blood on it or they clean it, preferably on the clothes of their victims. Would never have thought they could have dried blood on their blades. Perhaps a fault of my imagination.
