With the imminent release of the Necron codex I decided that its about time to paint my necrons.
Here are the first models:
I am going for an all "rusty" looking army. Hopefully I should have 5 more models done by today...
Hope you like them
Snow (will give a nice contrast to the browns on the mini)
Desert (Tomb Kings in space?)
Urban (will tie with my existing Space Marine army)

Good stuff. I like the rusty look you gave them, especially since you painted it so well
Will be watching!
I like the rust effect, the only thing I can say is that necrons are notorious for having 'dead' eyes.
well since I cant figure out what kind of bases to make, I made this:
sorry for the bad pics guys I didnt have my camera available.
what do you think? should I go for the lava bases? I think the lava bases turned out the best.
and a group shot to help you decide

I really like the lava base. Seems a bit cliche since it's so common for necrons to be on them, but, hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Any reason the gun cable is red? I think green would be much better. Right now you have red, blue and green spot colors, which is a bit many, and between the rusty metal and lava base there's enough warm colors already.
Aside from that they look great!

yes I felt the same! too many lava based armies out there... but it looks good![]()
Thank you! I actually had my doubts about the red cable so I am going to change that into green so it will match the rest of the mini
On a sidenote I have finished 5 more necrons so expect some pics soon.
By the way does anyone know how I can turn off the poll?

I think that the sandy bases actually tie in the most with the colors, I always think that 'Crons are supposed to look like whatever they've been in for countless millennia, so it fits most that the dust-ridden appearances of the army come from an acidic desert of sorts.
Cheers, looking good here,

How about checking out this random cavalcade?
I'm crazy and I'm Finnish. Don't blame me, it's the polar bears!
Why not paint the Red gun cable the same as the other gun cable? That combo of Blue cables + green rods would look sweet!

after careful consideration and some experiments with different bases I finally decided to base my Necrons on a volcanic landscape.
Tonight I finished the last 5 warriors and I finally have my first unit of 10:
I really appreciated everyone's feedback on the basing. Although the majority suggested snow bases I finally chose lava bases since those look the best. I hope you can agree with me![]()

I would probably have preferred the dessert bases, but these are cool too
That rust effect is truly awesome and looks very realistic, can we have a tutorial on how you do it ?? that would make me very happy
Looking forward to seeing some of the new models from the range in your rust scheme.

@the damned artificier:
thanks for the kind words! I will try and make a step by step tutorial as soon as I finish the destroyers.
Speaking of destroyers:
almost completed...
work on the bases just started:
I want these guys to look like they are hovering over a lava river with patches of rock inside the lava

I quite like the mottled effect on the carapace, looks quite good. Gives it a ceramic, or stone, look. How'd you do it, drybrushing and stippling?
thx!
I just used stippling. I started with khemri brown. Then a mix of 50:50 khemri brown-dheneb stone and finally pure dheneb stone.

Nice, Im never a big fan of necrons but i really likes these. The weathered paint job gives them a really realistic look, as if they have climbed out of ash and soot.
The only thing i would add would be to add a little bit more weathering to the weapons metal parts and to the gold on the destroyers.
oh and the lava bases= big thumbs up!
Looking great.
I love the bone and rust colours, very realistic.
Not a fan of the golden shoulders though, would look much better as bone.
