Thread: Top 10 miniature war games

Re: Top 10 miniature war games

Hmm my top 10 games that I like playing both board games and minis games at the moment are.

    1: Warmahords
    2: Uncharted Seas.
3: The Darkest Day (a zombie survival game of my own design.)
    4: Rune Wars
    5: Warzone 2nd edition
    6: Runebound
7: Descent journeys in the dark
    8: Dust Tactics
    9: Dust
10: Warhammer fantasy 7th edition. There is no warhammer fantasy after this to me.

This might change once I get around to actually finishing up my sci-fi skirmish rules.

Re: Top 10 miniature war games

    Out of those I own/play:

    Warhammer 40K
    Warhammer Fantasy Battle
    Necromunda
    Firestorm Armada
    Heavy Gear Blitz
    Heroclix
When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming like the other people in his car.

Got those old 5th edition lizardmen collecting dust? PM me, I really need more metal skinks with javelins.

    I can't make a list 10 long. I can, charitably, make a list 4 long.

    1) WM/H
    2) Infinity
    3) Firestorm Armada
    4) Dystopian Wars

I also have miniatures for Full Thrust, Dirtside II, WHFB, Epic, 40k, Raven, Necromunda, and some WW2 6mm. But all those I am currently selling away and/or have no plans for playing them.

I dont think I have ever seriously played/collected 10 games, lol.

    Rulesets I like:

    Warhammer Fantasy
    Warmaster
    Hordes
    Warmachine
    Blackpowder
    Blood Bowl

    Rules interested in trying:
    Kings of War
    Mailfuax
    Call to Arms

    Think is overrated:
    40k
WarmaHordes ( one of the ones I both enjoy and think is overrated at the same time, lol)

Not necessarily. Think of all the veterans, and think of all the gaming groups that take a dip into new games just to try them out.

Speaking of rules, I can only list some GW wargames, but since I've only played WHFB enough to know it, I guess it'd make a short list. Better wait 'til I've played Dreadfleet, at least.

But I do have a favourite amongst the three editions of WHFB that I've played: 8th edition, without a doubt. It's the massed infantry hordes that mainly make it so good for me, but also some other tweaks from previous editions including the new monsters.

Yep. Not hard to have played a lot more than ten miniature-based wargames in the years since 1987 when I started playing them.

For that matter, I can manage more than ten between different editions of 40k, WFB & Epic...

I miss Chronopia, and I loved the sculpts

I miss Void, and I loved the sculpts.

I miss Celtos, and...oh, never mind.

I find it funny that Rackham's Confrontation hasn't showed up once.

Why, this is top miniature games, not top minis

But if it was just minis I'd totally understand it being included.

Warhammer 40K is like LSD to me:
It's expensive, it lasts too long, it makes my head hurt, but damn I love the visuals.

Re: Top 10 miniature war games

I'll give a list. Respectfuly. Only table-top, and only what I consider to be VERY good. I have played any, many, many games, but most do not make the cut for me.

    1. Confrontation 3.5- best game of all time. Best models, and rules. An amazing experience.
    2. confrontation 3
    3. Mordheim- most heart and sould in a mini game ever.
    4. 40K
    5. Necromunda

Games on my negative list for various reasons. No particular order. I still own forces for most of these.

    1. Warmachine
    2. Hordes
    3. Alchemy - shame, too, the models are great, the game and company are balls.
    4. Confrontation 2
    5. Confrontation: Age of Ragnarok
    6. AT-43
    7. Inquisitor
    8. gothic- ugh, this game.
    9. Lord of the rings- though the models are nice...

Games with promise, just not enough bite to pull me in over the years for whatever reason. I own armies for most of these.

    1. EDEN- I'm actually really looking forward to this filling in the hole Confrontation left open
    2. warhamer fantasy
    3. infinity
    4. anima tactics
    5. Confrontation Dogs of War
    6. Ragnorok
    7. many others I am forgetting right now I am sure.

Re: Top 10 miniature war games

A little of what and why:

    1. Heavy Gear 2nd Ed. - because it is the most versatile system designed around mini combat and rpg
    2. Battletech 1604 - yep, cause sometimes its fun to be a kid again...
    3. WarMachine and Hordes - love the figs never bothered with the dice
    4. Confrontation - incredible figs, truly artwork
    5. AD&D 2nd Ed. - because if you were doing it right you had minis and finding good ones was part of the fun
    6. Warmaster - because when you put these on the table with Heavy Gear and GROPOS you can play Rifts (and sometimes its fun to be a kid again...)
    7. everything else Games Workshop - never played a single game but my basement is proof to how much I like their figs and models; easily the most extensive genres on the market
    8. AT-43 - what gear krieg could have been
    9. Gear Krieg - this is the seasoning that makes FoW fun
    10. Flames of War - great line of pewter but I use GK rules
Honorable Mention - GROPOS (RIP)- thanks for the scifi 1-144 infantry
