    Re: Uncharted Seas

Just bought a Shroud Mages starter. Looking forward to trying the game out and hoping there can be some discussion about it here on WS. I haven't gotten around to ordering the rulebook though. Does anyone have any thoughts to share on the game? I was thinking about getting a second fleet if no-one in the group decides to start up, most likely Dragon Lords or Bone Griffons.

    Re: Uncharted Seas

    It's great fun.
The game doesn't have a deep tactical depth, but if you're looking for a fast-paced game that lets you roll dice by the bucketful Uncharted Seas is for you.
The rules are easy to learn, but their presentation is a bit counter-intuitive at times. At least that was the case with the three incarnations of the rulebook I have seen (I don't have the latest version).

I was thinking of getting the 2nd ed hardback, is that the latest one?

I've had a thing for naval fantasy since the MoW days, but never really fancied that, so I'm glad to have found US.

Yes, it is. All previous editions were softback.

    Re: Uncharted Seas

This is the next game I'm getting into. A year or so ago I debated getting the book, but wasn't quite into it.

Now, I love the newer "resculpted" models and with a new book and templates, so any reasons I had against it are gone

    Re: Uncharted Seas

This is my go to game when I just want a laugh. I think I may need to clarify that a bit I am quite a serious 40k player (I play by the rules in a group of players who at most times seem to have only a passing knowledge that the rulebook even exists), I also enjoy secrets of the 3rd reich but that gives me tactical headaches (it's a good game but very tactical) and bloodbowl which whilst fun I still have to think about quite heavily. Uncharted has a tactical element but also has an element of outrageous luck (the exploding 6 mechanic - a roll of a 6 gets you 2 hits and allows you to reroll the dice) and cards that can change the game or just stop you in your tracks. I challenge anyone not to laugh at the sheer devastation a large ship exploding in the middle of an engagement can cause. The mechanics are easy, the game is fun and you can't be counted out as even the lowliest frigate can sink a battleship (however unlikely). I would suggest getting some tiny d6 of different colours for markers (we use red-hull green-crew orange-fire black-weapon damage blue-hole below).

The current rules are now free for download:

If that's not a good reason to start a fleet, I don't know what is.

perhaps the 30% off in their store?

Tho I do play F:A and DW already, so I probably won't be picking up a 3rd similiar game anyway.

    Re: Uncharted Seas

A buddy of mine has expressed some interest in this game, but we both are likely to want to play Imperial Humans. Is there a way to keep the two fleets from feeling the same? Also, does it do a decent job of simulating age of sail style combat? We both already play DW so it would be fun to stick with a system we kinda know.

Edit to Add: Never-mind. I've been looking through the information now and am quite pleased so far. Looks like this will be good fun.
