An easy way to make bloodtrails, that still look really good, is to take some fishing line, form it up the way you want with small knots, then burn it with a lighter so it melts and take a more rounder shape. Then dip it in water effect and glace it.

That's a really good tip Servant, thanks!
Been mostly carving today. Still a lot to do but I thought I'd show you the progress so far.
The pyramid shape I've been aiming for seems to come together pretty nicely:

Not sure if I'm very happy with this guy though:
The purpose of him is to be terrified, but to accieve that I think he needs to lose his weapon and perhaps be covering his ears (with his hands on the outside of his helmet though).
Guilliman, wow. This piece is really coming together rather nicely. The progress on the actual models really matches the original draft with a little bit of added character. I also like the idea for fishing line blood, it would probably take some testing though considering how random setting things alight can be.
6th Edition W/L/D Record.
Eldar - 2/2/1.
Dark Angels - 5/2/1.
Chaos - 1/0/0.
This is amazing guilliman. As for the guy to look terrified, carrying the weapon doesn't really convey it ... perhaps have him wedged into the trench in the fettle position, or grapping his knees to his chest. I get this image of Matt Damon in Saving Private Ryan when everyone is fighting for there lives and he's just there screaming hugging his knees to his chest.
I love the charging guardsman! Very characterful.
In regards to the terrified guardsman, I concur with everyone else; Lose the weapon and have him sitting at his knees/bum and either cradle his legs or cover his ears.
A very effectful diorama for sure! I have to agree with you (and other members) about the guardsman that is supposed to look terrified. Like you said, have his gun lying on the ground and have his hands covering his ears. That would bring out the effect you're trying to achieve much betterKeep up the good work mate!
Thanks for the comments guys! I'll redo the scared guy in the future.
Yet another uneffective day today, but not without progress. I should have the tough guy finished tomorrow.

It seems to work fine with the nid in place (still more cutting needed though). I'm planning to stick the knife through its eyes. Not sure on its head though, should the mouth be opened or closed? I'm really torn between the two options...

Keep it open and make sure there's some ichy saliva goo dripping from it onto his uniform too![]()

Keep it open. They are after all raving (more or less) mindless predators.
Another idea that could work is to have the guardsman shoot a laspistol into the open mouth. Though I very much like the knife through the eye.
Wow! That looks great for sure. I'd say leave the mouth open. Like Raz said, they are more or less mindless predators. I like the idea of the knife stabbing into the eye. Seems like the biggest weakspot on the gaunt and a imperial guard should know that. Another thing you should concider is that he uses his other hand to keep the gaunt at bay. Would bring out the effect of a struggle even more I thinkAs always, keep up the good work!
Open mouth, also I think he should hold the head with the other hand to gain more force when stabbing the nid in the eye. Hope you get what I mean. =) good luck!
I spy with my little eye that someone is going to win another trophy. This looks fantastic so far, for the scared guy, as the others have said lose the weapon and have him cowering away from the nids, maybe with his eyes closed and mouth open wide in a petrified scream or sobbing hysterically. I am so looking forward to seeing this done (as I'm sure you are).
Wow this is really looking fantastic, and you haven't even added the nids. I'm really looking forward to more.

I like this log very much. It looks stunning and I am looking forward to it.
During this thread I learned that this is your second one. Can you please give me the link to the first one? I would really like to see it :-)
Thanks for the comments guys, I'll keep the mouth open.I'm sticking to his left hand on the ground though as I feel he needs to keep his weight somehow, plus I think his twisted torso gives him more impression of thrust is his stab.
Link to the thread is in my signature.![]()
Thank you :-)
I must be really blind because I checked your signature before I asked.

I second Nordic's suggestion of the nid stabbing guy to be holding its head with his other hand.
Keep up the good work buddy!
