    amazing work!!!!!!

now, remember that a bolt round is a self propelled, bullet sized missile. It'd be cool to get a little propulsion effect on the bullet

It's great seeing this work coming together and the extra level of detail your adding even now. Honestly, I think your on to a real winner here.

Just awesome, Guilliman ! As the Egg said, think this is a winner.
Helt sjukt vilken standard du har på både byggandet och målandet, lycka till !

Well, I think the only thing we can say now is: alea jacta est.

In two weeks we wait for news

    This is Awesome!!

The only question i have is: Would the weathering on the boots not look better if it was a similar shade to the new trench floor?

I feel it looks too brown now in contrast to the earth gray.

    Cheers

we hopes you take the whole thing to a professional photo person when done, so you can get close ups, 360s and all sorts of clever shots of this piece of art

Magnificent! If I had one comment it would be that if the guy with his hand on the fallen guardsman's abdominal wound had lighter-coloured skin, the blood on his hand would have more visual impact. But honestly that's splitting hairs, and having a bit of a mix of ethnicity and gender amongst the guard is great.

Unfortunately I had problems seeing how I could have incorporated that in a convincing way into the clear plastic rod holding the bullet. I'm always very reluctant to doing flame effects as I think they look to solid to be believable on a model. This is why I never did a muzzle flare on the marine's bolt pistol either. We'll simply imagine that the propultion effect was too small to see or covered with core.

I can honestly say that I don't remember the exact reason for my choice of weathering colour, the last few weeks are kind of a blur really. I think it was a combination of starting with a photo reference, then dulling it down to match the trench better, but also match the colour of the ground above since it's a dried in dirt on the boots from weeks of warfare. I also think the pigments I had at hand at home played some part into what I could to in the end... Anyway, I think it looks better IRL than in the photos.

This is my hope as well. This is the most three dimensional piece I have ever done. What I mean by that is that there are so many layers of detail that, firstly, I can never take a closeup without a lot of details being out of focus. Secondly, when I hold and observe the diorama there is a feeling of depth that I have never managed to catch in a 2D photograph. It's also just as impossible to film because my phone never know where to keep its focus. If my video camera doesn't do the job then I have a few friends with proper cameras and objectives that will definitely get it done. I really want to make a good deserving presentation of this diorama.

It occurred to me as well, but because I tried to limit the amount and not overwhelm the diorama with of blood, I think his darker skin tone does a good job of toning it down a bit. I like to make details that you don't really see until you get up close. So that instead of having them all blow up in your face when viewing the diorama for the first time, they all blend into each other and combine a greater picture at first but the more and closer you look, the more details you find.

Re: Guilliman's 2nd GD Diorama - Imps vs. nids

Now hopefully you'll get to see some better shots on the GD website soon, and as promised I will try to get some proper videos of this beast done.

It's hard to believe it's been 5.5 years in the making. It's been an adventure and a nightmare at the same time. Now that it's finished I'm very indifferent about the entire thing. Of course I know and can't help but focus on all the flaws and things I feel could have been better, but there are also just SO many details on the diorama that turned out really good. I knew from the start that adjustments to the overall impression would be close to impossible if halfway I would want to change something.

But feedback from friends and you guys has had a huge impact on the end result. The build wouldn't had been the same without your support and my friends' advices have influenced the painting greatly. I think that I mostly feel that it could had been more vibrant, but without any help it would had been almost grey in comparison.

Futhermore I have learned SO much in the process of painting the entire thing. The marine is without question the best model I've ever painted and I can't wait to test my new skills on new models. And OH! Testing my new skills on ANOTHER colour scheme... The most frustrating thing has definitely been to feel that you improve but still have to paint the SAME colours at the SAME painting level as the first 20(!!!) models.

I guess you can tell there has been some notable frustration from my part over the last few years. My last diorama took me around 300 hours to do, which was what made me feel I would have the focus to take on this idea. I did a rough estimate that this last push since August has been around 1600 hours, so including all work before that I have without question spent several thousand hours more.

All in all, I'm so relieved that this is over, and that I have had you guys with me along the way. I couldn't have done it without you!

I will now try to fear no evil as I go into the most challenging Golden Demon Diorama category in the history of the competition. The number of amazing dioramas coming this year is staggering! Wish me luck.

In case any of you are going to Warhammer Fest this weekend, make sure to say hi if you see me! In case my face melts into the crowd, look for this fancy transport box for the diorama.
