    Re: The PCRC presents: Rehab of 8 Addicts

    Right then, first post and the write up of the battle between The Forces of Nurgle's Herald of Gatrog and Phaeron Senruset's freshly awakened necron horde.
    The game type was seize ground with Daemons gaining the first turn.

    Turn 1
    Greater Daemon Gatrog's Herald of Nurgle and his repugnant warband were drawn to the power of various warp nodes scattered around an abandoned industrial complex. Such power would be more than enough to ensure the coming of the Heralds master to Shale. However the machinations of nurgle were not always in the Herald's favour and he arrived at the complex accompanied only by a clutch of nurglings and one group of plaguebearers.

    Phaeron Senruset, having been thwarted by Dark Eldar raiders had remembered of a great power source in the region and sought to claim the nodes in order to boost his drained power and allow time to regroup before plotting revenge. Coming across the Herald of Gatrog the Phaeron saw the opportune moment to reclaim some of his lost honour and while remaining in cover, opened a volley of searing gauss blasts toward the grotesque daemons.

    Re: The PCRC presents: Rehab of 8 Addicts

    Turn 2:

    The morose Herald scoffed as the necron's shots went wide, their targeting optics not enough to score a hit on nurgle's forces. However this good fortune was not enough to allow for any further plaguebearers or beasts of nurgle to appear. The pestilent troops advanced with an unnatural swiftness on the robotic warriors, the Herald felling two from range with foul corruption whilst plagebearers struck in close quarters. Although some necrons take down one of the plagued soldiers and some reanimate, it is not enough to prevent an override of their survival protocols and the surviving 4 warriors flee.

    The necron immortals, seeing their lower ranked brethren suffer at the hands of such disgusting foes let rip but failed to drop any opponents. However with a safe distance between themselves and the plaguebearers, the fleeing warriors are able to reboot their programming and return to battle, shooting down two plaguebearers.

    EDIT: Whoops! Sorry for popping up in the middle of your battle report Trojan Ninja!

    I've made a bit more progress with the Great Unclean One and the Nurglings.

    I'm pretty pleased with progress so far. When these guys are done that's my first 750 points complete.

    Thanks for the feedback guys, we appreciate it. I like to think that what people see in the Keeper of Secret's gas cloud is what's truely inside themselves, heh heh.

    Great report so far – I'm looking forward to the rest.

    Gatrog is looking good (i.e. gross) already. I think the more fleshy tone looks particularly good on that model. I'll be interested to see how the colour scheme translates to the Keeper of Secrets; or will you try something different?

    Gatrog won't stay this colour though; this is the colour the Plaguebearers were too before I applied the Devlan Mud and Leviathan Purple. I just need to finish the details first so the washes can tie it all together.

    For the KoS I thought I'd paint the skin in the same way, but only apply a light wash of Leviathan Purple rather than the two washes the Nurgle daemons have received. I'll try it out on a Daemonette first, just to make sure it works ok.

    here is the first part of the next section of the coven of perfected flesh.

    these are Grigori's clone troopers, the guns and loin cloths will remain green throughout the army but each unit will be clad in the colour of their haemonculus.

    their transport will follow shortly and once I've painted Grigori himself, the coven will be up to 750pts.

    then I can build his pets...

    Lovely crisp work there, Lord Blood – that style of painting really works well on the dark eldar warriors.

    WIP Veterans. The Cadian/Elysian-based models will be my regular joes, while these more heavily-armoured chaps will be proper veterans. In the background, they represent soldiers drawn in from an understrength Lamb's World regiment to give the newly-raised 177th some backbone!
    Not a huge amount done here – I've been experimenting with a small flat brush for the camouflage, and it's really sped things up.

    The red beret especially stands out well.

    I have been a little lax as it goes so far on this blog, so I think it's time for an update from me.
    My first 500 points are somewhat cheating by including previously painted models of fire warriors and drones which can be seen here and here.

    But, in place of these units, I've been working on some other stuff for when the points values get higher. To start off with, two Forgeworld Remora drones. I've kept the black and orange colour scheme as seen on my other blog. These drones have fully working folding wings, achieved by pinning through the rotating section.

    Stay tuned for more updates soon - including some crisis suits I'm working on right now.

    Nice work on the veterans Apologist. What is the parts recipe for those models? They don't look familiar to me?
    The red beret especially stands out well.
    Apart from the beret, they're Heresy Sci-Fi trooper miniatures straight from the blister. The beret is from the Catachan command sprue.

    [Tau]
    Those remoras are stunning – the smooth blending is beautiful.

    [Daemons]
    The muted pinks of Gatrog's distended flesh are a nice departure from the usual green look of Nurgle armies. As one of the centrepiece models, I wonder if he might benefit from a few extra touches? His teeth and spine would stand out a bit more from the other bony areas with another highlight (painting them with various bone/white/ivory colours would look nice and mismatched), and the sword is so big, I wonder if a few touches of another colour, perhaps on the hilt, would be a quick way to break it up visually. The paintwork really goes to show how good the sculpting was – it's hard to work out what's the original sculpt, and what's your addition

    It's really nice to see an army shot, too – that must be a good feeling! *Looks at his own partially-painted force*
    I'm not a fan of the black base rims, though; the scheme is so subtle and muted that they really jump out and draw the eye away from the models.

    Time for another Tau update. This time we have Shas'el Gal'Ray, scout force leader in his XV-8 armour.

    +++
    Shas'el Gal'Ray loosely translates as 'Discovers by walking' - so named for his propensity to engage in spirit walks alone through the desert. His natural tracking skills and inquisitive nature make him ideal as a reconaissance force leader. Commander Starblade uses him in this role frequently when he or his second are unavailable.

    Gal'Ray is pictured here equipped with an Airbursting Fragmentation Launcher and Burst Cannon to deal with light and heavy infantry targets. Typically using his suits rapid jet pack to scout ahead of the main force, or dropping in with his bodyguard behind enemy lines from an Orca dropship, Gal'Ray engages his enemies at close range, picking off sentries or scout units with the precision provided by superior Tau technology and training.

    +++

    Here is the 500pts list I have been using for the Tale of eight gamers battles.

    My 500pts list

    HQ
    Shas’el [50] + AFL [20] + BC [8] + MT [5] + HW TL [5] + HW DC [0] + Shield drone [15] = 103

    Bodyguard = 129pts
    * Shas’vre [35] + PR [20] + MP [12] + MT [5] + BK = 72
    * Shas’vre [35] + FL [4] + TL:MP [18] = 57

    Troops
    Fire Warrior Team = 60pts
    * 6 fire warriors [60] + pulse carbines
    Fire Warrior Team = 60pts
    * 6 fire warriors [60] + pulse carbines

    Fast Attack
    Drone Squadron = 76pts
    * 6 Gun drones [76]
    Drone Squadron = 76pts
    * 6 Gun drones [76]

    Total = 494 pts

    I have just the two extra bodyguard Shas'vre crisis suits to finish painting before the end of February.

    Thanks! Basically, it's just a case of lots of thin layers and a bit of patience. I thin the white to a consistency like skimmed-milk, and then apply several layers, until it is totally opaque. It doesn't take too long as the thin layers dry much more quickly.

    The following unnamed crisis suit pilot was first spotted by Imperial observers of the Lamb's World XXVII. In that and each engagement since, it has been seen attached to Shas'el Gal'Ray, causing Imperial observers to surmise the pilot is part of Gal'Ray's bodyguard retinue.
    It is armed with twin missile pods for long range support against light vehicles, and boasts a secondary flamer weapon system to deal with enemies who try to force an engagement at close range.

    Yes, you're probably right. I am beginning to wonder if the teeth are too dark. I'll revisit him something soon and add a few more highlights. The false light I took the photo in probably doesn't help.

    Cheers, I got a bit confused myself when I was painting him.

    It's actually 50/50 Chaos Black / Scorched Brown. I tried solid black and a variety or lighter browns, but none of them really looked right. I'm open to suggestions though! Personally I've always been a fan of very dark rimmed bases, I just like the look it gives.

    For a grotty appearance, you could highlight the teeth with different greys and yellows and whites. Might be a fun way to try out the new paint range!

    The Imperial advance was stymied by communication mishaps, desertions, disappearances and broken engagements across the whole of the Gimbuas Plateau and the Vydun Basin, and General Goodluck Abacha reluctantly ordered the troops to dig in for the Winter months.

    As reinforcements trickled down, General Henimon of the Third Army received pleasing news that the famed Marathon 1001st Armoured Cavalry had arrived in-theatre, diverted from the Polar Regions where the First Army were meeting little opposition. Led by the cantankerous Lochagr (a local term for a senior officer) Epathros, some of the regiment's Conqueror Cavalry Tanks were attached to the Lamb's World 8th Company. With the addition of Armour to the Company, Ap Payne was ordered to advance into the Vydun Basin and secure a staging and refuelling post. Personality clashes between the the Lamb's Worlders and the Marathon squadron's commander – the infamous Sergeant Bastard – were to mar the attempt.

    Marathon 1001st E118
    E118, known to its crew as Delivery Service, is a standard Conqueror Cavalry Tank. With a Mars Alpha hull and Ryza-pattern turret, it represents the standard output of Yoke, who supply most of the hiveworld's armoured regiments.

    A Lamb's World infantryman hitches a ride.

    The Leman Russ makes a fantastic baggage vehicle. Livestock and victuals are often carried in the tank's panniers; but this unfortunate bovid (presumably gathered during foraging) was clearly both too large – and too tempting!
