Sorry, afraid I can't remember the name of the company that did the officer with the dataslate. Shame, because it was a little startup store and I'd like to help support them. Beautiful casting, great sculpt, and I know there was at least one more awesome sculpt. Can anyone help identify him?

The guy reloading behind the rock is an Infinity figure, and the Bulldog figure is from Hasslefree miniatures. There's a version of him with a big plasma gun, too!

Suddenly, Rough Riders!

I've always had a soft spot for Rough Riders. All the majesty and glory of cavalry warfare, cowboy styling and all neatly topped off with rugged modern-day scouting/reconnaissance and self-reliance. However, on the downside, they suffer from lacklustre rules, poor and dated models, and a weird lack of identity in the current Codex.

I've had the bits for these models since the Wood Elf Army Book first came out. They've been sat in my bits box so long that I actually ordered them when GW still had a bits service! Definitely time to put them together. I've got enough parts to finish off a squad of ten, but I'd love to know what everyone thinks so far. I decided to represent the hunting lances with satchel charges.

Thanks very much Nomrana Est, comments like these keep us motivated. As Apologist mentioned the PCRC are assembling this weekend for painting and gaming, so hopefully there should be a load of new photos on the log next week.

Will you be adding or removing any of the elven armour? Otherwise i think your onto a winner

To be honest, the thought of removing/adding/blending the facial armour in is what's kept them in the bits box for ten years. I've decided to bite the bullet and use them as is. Lazy? Maybe; but the aim is to clear the moons of Closette (or empty the cupboard of unpainted stuff), so I think it's an acceptable compromise for time.

Speaking of building stuff, it's been bugging me that I had two command squads but needed a third for a legal army, so once I'd completed the Rough Riders, I built a Company Command squad using spare bits.
Company Command

Left to right: Commissar, Veteran trooper, bodyguard, autoscribe [astropath], Company Commander, Veteran trooper, Veteran trooper with company colours, Veteran Trooper, Outremar bodyguard, Ecclesiarchy priest.

I decided the troopers needed to be a bit beefy, so I used Space Marine Scout legs with the FW hostile environment Cadian torsos.


The currently unnamed officer is a conversion from the FW Enforcer with a few subtractions and additions. I think he works quite nicely as a older officer.


So, I now have a legal (if unpainted) army for the weekend – Hoorah! I know that TrojanNinja and Lucifer 216 have been busy with their Necrons, so hopefully we should see some piccies from them soon

I completely understand your decision and the reasons for it . There would be quite a bit of work involved with trimming all those elven bits off. Either way im sure they will look stunning once they are finished

Love those Rough Riders, the Demo Charge Idea is inspired too... I may have to steal that for some elements of the Rough Rider company ive got on the cards. As Always though its the interesting parts, little details and gear that set your models apart, on the rough riders and command squad both!

Quick question about the Cadian heads with respirators: Are you getting them all from buying the hostile environment torsos (that have the heads attached) or are you sourcing the heads separately at times independently?

I have used the environmental torso pack for the Company Command squad veterans, but generally I'm just using the Cadian Respirator upgrade pack (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Cadian_Shock_Troops/CADIAN_INFANTRY_SQUAD_WITH_RESPIRATORS_UPGRADE_PAC K.html), which gives me flexibility on the angle of the heads, allows me to use the Elysian bodies more easily (the heads need a little alteration by trimming the back of the neck down and removing the collar on the torso), and comes with cool extra bits like backpacks and grenades.

I also use the tank crew heads, and various other heads from FW. Some are sourced from ebay and some are bought second hand right here on Warseer.

Nope, I just use the standard Imperial Guard list. Drop troopers don't appeal that much to me – I like the groundpounding infantry ranged in serried ranks too much

For anti-tank, I mainly use bad language and hope! Owing to the fact the PCRC don't really use many heavy tanks, it's proved okay so far. However, I love the Forgeworld Rapier models, so I'll be buying some of those for the future for more of the 'updated Rogue Trader' feel.


Lord Blood; Grigori and the Raider are looking gorgeous. I don't think the photos do justice to the paintjobs, which are beautifully well-executed. Looking forward to the next unit!

The Thousand Sons establish a defensive perimeter...





...but physical defenses are little use against the daemons of the warp!



Gatrog Nurgle faces off against the Daemon Prince of Tzeentch but has trouble defending against his warp-time enchanced blows.





His minions rush to assist, but it's too late and Gatrog is banished back from whence he came.



Cackling gleefully, the badly wounded Daemon Prince makes his escape.
