    Alex paints an anime!

With the release of Super Dungeon Explore imminant, I thought I should paint up this little peice I've had for a few months now. Plus, who doesn't like white mages?

Unfortunatly, my phone camera is a little gritty, and shows every little imperfection, of which there are a few. Also, I hate painting bright white, with minimal depth. I was happy with the face and hair though!

Also, I've been working on a little bit of modular dungeon to go along with the ones you get in the SDE box. Heres this little lady modelling one of the tiles I've made so far!

Depending on when my set arrives, and how quickly I get onto painting the models inside, I may turn this into a little plog, but for now, just this!

    Uguu~

Pretty nice job there man! I particularly like the effect you have on the globe at the end of the staff.

    Nicely done!

Agree that the globe on the staff is excellent - the woodgrain on the staff itself is good too.
The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

Painting woodgrain on something with the width of a paperclip... Never again!
Thanks for the positive response. It's certainly different, isn't it? Also, since taking the photos, i've cleaned up that pink smeary-fingerprint on the back of the dress. I fumbled highlighting the hat for that :P

I keep trying to convince myself into not splurging money on super dungeon explore. Its hard. Really hard. Things like this dont help. I dread to think of the epic ear-bleeding squee that would result from my missus when she realises SDE exists :|

It's easy for me to resist the call of SDE.

I don't like the video games the look is based on, which is a great help.

An accomplished rendering of the figure - if a little too anime for my tastes (never been into the BESM school of anime either).

    Re: Alex paints an anime!

A little bit of threadomancy now... I'm still unsure if this will become a full blow plog yet, so for now, I'll just update this thread now and again.

But anyways! My copy of SDE arrived thursday, and I've been busy painting more lovely, anime-themed toys!
Not much though... I'm taking a little extra time on the heroes, and models I particularly like, which seems sensible!

So, lets kick things off then! I have some lovely photos to show you all...

The first thing I had to paint after unboxing, was some babby dragons!

    They're like little, hungry pokemon!
In my head, dragons=red, and I decided on a more natural tone, than orangy highlights. Only the older dragons get lovely, fancy orange highlights on their scales.

But thats not all I've painted!

Wait... Who's this on the horizon ready to chop up all these delicious babies?

Why, it's a happy little barbarian girl! Just look at the glee on her face at the prospect of pulping those hatchlings!

Now, lets get a better look at her.

And, well, whats an anime girl without a blatant pantyshot?

And a shot of the loncloth, and the face.

Anyways, thats all I've achieved for now! Theres certainly more to come though! I think i'll do the kobold ironscales next, since they're about 70% metal. After that though, another hero!

If anyone has any requests, or idead of what to paint them up as, feel free to leave a comment, as well as any feedback!

    Thanks, Alex.

Painting the skin on those huge faces without any detail is gonna be problematic...

Next up is the druid, and angry bear... I'm sure they'll be brighter, and more interesting than all these kobolds...

Oh, I like those kobolds. For some reason I thought that SDE was basically just a ruleset to use the existing Soda Pop minis for.

Have you played the game yet? Is it any good?

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone!

And yeah, I gave it a spin at Triple Helix last saturday, and despite me misreading, or misinterpreting rules, it went down really well, and there was a lot of interest in it. I was planning to get some photos, and do a proper rundown this saturday, as hopefully I'll get the full 5 involved for a proper game.

The short of it, yeah, it's good! Simple as well. I'd go so far as to say child-friendly, without ruining the experience.

Also, expect angry bear, and druid tonight... They're sat on top of my tower, about half done as I type!

You are doing them justice! Those look incredibly nice. Your cartoony paint style works so well on them.

    Re: Alex paints an anime!

These are really nicely done, the only things keeping me away from this set are the lack of detail (the large smooth surfaces, that is) and the pricetag.

Have you actually tried the game out? How does it feel like on a rules-basis? Not really informed on Soda Pop Games' rulesets, but this seems interesting.

    Cheers,

    Re: Alex paints an anime!

Good god, I've been neglecting my painting this week! Skyward sword, and a sinus infection have ruined my plans to finish the druid! :P

Daniel36- Thanks! I seem to only be able to paint in 2 different ways. Devln mud over brown, and call it done, or loads of effort, but it comes out all bright and cartoony. The latter tends to only go on the things I really like :P

Goat of Yuggoth- Yeah, the flat areas are rather different to work with. Totally unlike anything i've done before, bar perhaps tanks, and painting tank armour is pretty different to a face :P
As for the game, it plays pretty well. As I've mentioned in the SDE thread, i've had a few games, both of which got a lot of interest, and went down very well. I'm not sure I can compare it to anything off the top of my head, except perhaps a combination of a top-down zelda game, final fantasy tactics, and spacehulk. Despite being such an odd combination, it runs pretty smooth! They've also included enough rules so they can add things in the future without having to re-print a rulebook for it, which is nice.

Anyway, despite my procrastination, druid and bear are next. The bear, in fact, might already be finished. I'll check, and update in a moment.

After that, I think i'll do the ranger, in colours similar to Pincess Zelda... The model immediatly reminds me of her model in SSBB...

    Re: Alex paints an anime!

Jesus christ, is that a bear!?

Goddamn! Even he's suprised that he's a bear!

He even has a little boo-boo on his bear butt.

Look into those crazy bear eyes...

Yup. Those be crazy eyes alright...

He's still a little rough in places, but pretty much finished! I decided polar bear, purely because brown, or black wasn't nearly bright enough! I will say though, he leans back so far that he's less of an angry bear, and more of a terribly startled bear! The photo also seems to make the tiny mouldlines I missed on the once over look huge. They were on very awkward areas, and at this point, theres no way im going back to take them off. They can just stay stealthily hidden as they are when looked at by eye.

    Druid to come soon!
