    Tabletop Quality for the Win!

So, first off, I am a relatively slow painter, and I thought I would start a log to hopefully speed things up and motivate me to paint. My two armies are Alaitoc Eldar and Dark Angels (mostly deathwing, but I have been moving towards some Ravenwing and dare I say it- Regular Dark Angels?!?!)

So anyway, here is what I have done for the past month of October:
Guy with sword and combi-plasma is my Azrael conversion
Plasma Gunner is self explanatory, and the other one is a Company Champion
3 Deathwing Terminators with Chainfist/Stormbolter (only 6 terminators left until I have all 30 painted)

Sorry for the quality, but I do not have much experience with the intricacies of camera and flash and lighting.

Also, comments are welcome but do remember, I'm trying to get everything up to tabletop quality and I am not a master painter.

My goal for November is to paint up 4 Warlocks and a Vyper (this is the bare minimum).

Great job on the conversion, I suck at them personally. The robes looking good too, great highlighting.

    Alright, so update.

My Vyper WIP and a Falcon WIP have been added to photobucket.

The only thing about the Vyper is that I don't quite like the way the gun turned out. I'm thinking that the next time I hit my FLGS, I need to pick up some gryphonne sepia wash, and hit the crevices with it.

    As always, advice is welcome.

If you want to get stuff painted and you're not too fussed about the quality, go for the 3-step approach:

    Mid-colour Basecoat.
    Shading Wash.
    Highlighting Drybrush.

And do each step on everything before moving on to the next - so base coat the armour, the metals, the flesh, etc, etc, then wash everything, then drybrush everything, all in the appropriate colours, of course.

Re: Tabletop Quality for the Win!

That's actually what I have been doing for my deathwing
    Dheneb Stone base
    Devlen Mud wash
    Highlight again with Dheneb Stone

but for my eldar and my vehicles, want to take more time with them.

and also, probably not going to be updated for the next two weeks, due to finals

Re: Tabletop Quality for the Win!

    Alright, so large update.

Despite what I was fearing, I was able to get some painting done before finals, in between studying.

Then, my finals ended last Wednesday, and I had basically absolutely nothing to do except paint, as all my friends still had finals, and I did not go back home until Friday.

First three pictures are my Warlock on Jetbike.

Next is a WIP guardian on jetbike

Then I have some Dire Avengers I've been working on intermittently for the past couple of weeks.

Finally is my WIP Deathwing Company Banner guy, few minor details to finish up.

Re: Tabletop Quality for the Win!

Double posting because apparently I cannot upload more than 10 photos at once.

Next is my Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai, and currently just a standard Interrogator-Chaplain.

Then I have a Guardian of the Covenant painted up. I've decided to do a squad of the Guardians of the Covenant, just to break up the green/bone colors.

Finally is a WIP Dark Angels sarge. Need to do his face, his gun, his deathwing symbol, and other minor details.

Now, I want to do the faces in a darker style, like Native American like. What is a good wash/color scheme for that?

    More Wraithseer.

Any advice on painting for the Chaplain and the wraithseer is welcome, I want to spend extra time on them to make them special (unlike with my regular goons).

    Edit:
Added in my vyper from way back, just so that this could all be on my log, and not buried in the recesses of my photobucket.

Alright, so I'm gearing up for Coastal Assault next week, and I've been trying to get my army ready.

    (Temporary) Deathwing Command Squad
The final product will have the banner, and will have shoulderpads from forgeworld, plus whatever dark angels bits I feel like attaching.

Re: Tabletop Quality for the Win!

Alright, so several pieces of awesome news. Because school has not fully swung into gear yet, and because I have the upcoming coastal assault to get ready for, I have been painting like a maniac. I finally have my first fully painted and based army for 40k (or any game system for that matter).

But first, some of my older stuff. One of my friends is having to borrow some of my Eldar stuff to make 1850, as there is a minimum paint requirement. Plus I want to post this for sake of completeness.

Egads. It's been a month since my last update. I have been busy painting, and I kept meaning to update this, but with school ramping up, I kept forgetting.

Alaitoc is my craftworld and I'm going to start spray basing all my eldar skull white to begin with. How do you generally paint the eldar the alaitoc scheme? I've bought regal blue, ultramarines blue and soon enchanted blue for the vehicles plus the important sunburst yellow for helmets and adding another colour to the tanks.

Re: Tabletop Quality for the Win!

    I have :

    Asurmen
    Eldrad Ulthran
    Farseer
    Avatar of Khaine (soon)
A mini seer council of 3 Warlocks
    6 Howling Banshees
    6 Striking Scorpions
    6 Fire Dragons
    2 Wraithguard
    10 Dire Avengers
    5 Pathfinders/Rangers
    5 Warp Spiders
    4 Shining Spears
    2 Fire Prisms
    1 Falcon
    2 Wave Serpents

I'm adding to my collection another dire avenger squad and dark reapers soon plus a Void Dragon Phoenix Jetfighter (for apocalypse and planetstike games) and some Swooping Hawks plus in the next couple of months save up for a Scorpion Tank. In the summer's apocalypse our club will be doing, I aim to use this force -

    Eldrad Ulthran
    mini seer council
    Dire Avengers

    Apocalypse formations -

    Scorpion Tank
    Void Dragon Phoenix
    Court of the Young King
    Phoenix Court
Sunstorm Squadron (everyone is allowing me to proxy my falcon and wave serpents as fire prisms)

If I can't get the phoenix court in time i'll add the ones I do have to the army and play them normally.

I've bought regal blue, ultramarines blue and soon enchanted blue for the vehicles plus the important sunburst yellow for helmets and adding another colour to the tanks.
Outstanding on all of the stuff you have, I have so much Eldar stuff I've actually forgotten what exactly I have.

For my Alaitoc scheme, I actually base them in black (my deathwing is based in black too). I've had bad experiences with white primer, though it was probably just the can.

    For the blue:
Paint the armor with regal blue.
    Heavily drybrush with Enchanted Blue
    Light drybrush with Ice Blue
    Line highlight with Skull White.
Water down some Asurmen blue (about 50:50 ish) and wash the armor with that

    For the Yellow
    Iyanden Darksun, 2 thinned coats
Couple layers of watered down sunburst
-This is over black basecoat, so I'm not sure you would need the Iyanden Darksun layer

For the Guns, I find bone colored works best with the blue and yellow
Layer or two of watered down Dheneb Stone
    Wash with straight Devlen Mud
    Heavily drybrush with bleached bone

Edit: My next post (another squad of guardians and a wraithlord) should be up by next Monday or so, I have had to put my project on hold for the past week and a half due to Midterm week.
