    Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Less than two days to go!

I'm really looking forward to this release, as I enjoyed both Morrowind and the less popular Oblivion especially because of the sandboxy world and first person role-playing experience.

While I'm still on the fence concerning the new character building and leveling system, I like the idea of being able to build a jack of all trades character. Perks sound great and dual wield looks very useful and long overdue.

I also hope that they incorporated more than just perks form the Fallout series. Things like random events (Fallout 3) and faction Fame/Infamy (Fallout: NV) would be great additions.

In two days we will know more!

I'm really looking forward to Skyrim as well, I thoroughly enjoyed Oblivion and this looks even better, with more design time and higher production values.

That sucks; though Amazon is usually fairly fast; hope you get it by end of the week. This is why I enjoy Steam so much though.

Yeah, I enjoyed Oblivion as well, though I can't deny that they made some very odd design decisions (ie. leveling, exploration and dungeons). It sounds though they learned from those mistakes, which was already quite apparent in Fallout.

You see, I actually prefer Oblivion to Fallout. I find there's more freedom in how you play Oblivion, whereas in Fallout I felt more hemmed in. I also like the larger game world with so many more locations, yes the dungeons be a bit repetitive but in Fallout everything just feels a bit sparse, not rich enough. Plus I really enjoy the fantastical setting with the rich landscape, I must admit I get a bit bored of Fallout's endless grey. Not to say that Fallout is in any way a worse game, it just never really grabbed me like Oblivion did if you know what I mean

Unless they've utterly revamped the abominable leveling system I won't pick it up at all. If they have, I may get around to picking it up at a discount once bugs are fixed and DLC is available.

My copy got shipped last Sunday, which I'm suspicious about. But if Game get it to me for Friday then all their past sins are forgiven. I have the whole day off in preparation.

Unfortunately I play in one warhammer tournament a year, and it happens to be this Saturday so I may be suffering from withdrawal symptoms all that day. Sods law :-(

I wanted to like Oblivion, and it's regularly rated as one of the best Xbox games of all time, but I found it utterly tedious. It was one of the very early 360 games though, and Skyrim looks like it has potential... will wait though, until I can get it cheap and second hand.

My Skyrim just received a confirmation order, will have it in my mailbox at 13.00 on friday.
When your friday lessons ends at 10.30 and you'll get home at 12.45... It's a beautiful day

I've never played Morrowind, I adored Oblivion for it's many quests (I love Fighters Guild ) and hated it's dungeons.
But since Skyrim is set in Swede... I mean... Skyrim - I'll feel right at home living my vikingdream^^
    Cheers!

PC version was miles better. After mods that fixed most of the issues, of course :P

I still think that Morrowind is the best TES game to date though, its setting was great. (Daggerfall, my first TES game, suffers from too many small and not so small issues to be a top game, in my opinion. An interesting experiment, that was too ahead of its time).
By the way, they promised randomly generated quests based on your actions and standing in the world. Have technology finally matured to the point that you can make a game like Daggerfall or Arena well?

    Re: Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

I've read a lot about this new "radiant story" technology that's being used in Skyrim and I'm really excited about it.

Basically for those that don't know quests will be generated by factoring in such things as :- things/people/places you've seen, things you've heard/overheard, things you've picked up, what class/race you are, how you behave, even what weapons you prefer! Not to mention guilds and other preset side quests. It has the potential to offer a very different gaming experience for each player or playthrough (obviously aside from the main quest) if they can pull this off I can see much wider uses for the same tech which will be a feast for gamers everywhere!

My only concern is that this radiant story telling has been overhyped and that rather than randomly "generated" quests we actually get a random choice of quest a, b or c. I guess time (and Tuesday!!!) will tell.

I wanted to like oblivion but it didn't quite manage to pull it off (for too many reasons to go into) but I think if Skyrim can live up to the hype then we really could be about to witness the next step in interactive entertainment where everything you do and even see will radically alter the experience.

It will of course make writing game guides very tricky!!

    Re: Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

I dont normally go in for all this fantasy stuff but this game has got my attention, thinking of giving it a go.

I did a bit of searching and it seems you dont have to have played the other games in the series to get an idea of whats going on.

I'd still like to know a bit about the ES background though, like an overview of the planet, all i know its called nirn etc... anyone got any sites?

I have heard the background is hardcore and then some, i'm not up for digesting every minute detail, just a broad overview of it all.

You will find a lot about the background here: http://www.uesp.net

It's essentially a Elder Scrolls wiki, including extensive information on all ES titels as well as a general lore overview.
