    Re: Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Snow elves came from PC gamers reading all the data from patch 1.5, which mentions a snow elf prince and his spear. Everyone assumed they'd be in Dawnguard.

Shortly after Dawnguard was announced, Bethesda copyrighted the name 'Heathfire', so i'm guessing that's DLC#2.

Cannot wait for Dawnguard. I'm going to have to play it twice though, once as a vampire and once as a vampire hunter.

I think we'l all be playing it twice through (Bethsoft knew what they were doing lol) the question is: which side is really the 'good' side? I could say that helping save the vampires makes me a good guy and that exterminating them makes me bad

It's a nice thought, but i think using an Elder Scroll to destroy the sun might just count as being evil...

It's all subjective, the vamps are trying to destroy the sun, but to ensure the survival of their race so depending on what viewpoint you stand at each faction could be classed as good I guess.

I'm not sure. If it's gonna be as different as siding for the Empire or the rebels, well, no, I'm not going to play it twice. And in that event, I'll go vampire slayers. Too many vampires, I swear, they've invaded theaters, they've invaded TV, they're not going to invade my PC as well

    Exactly

Well if you've already got a 2nd character then it wouldn't be an issue. There is supposed to be a significant difference though; as a vampire lord, if you walk into whiterun, get ready for the mob with pitchforks response from the whole town.

I'm sure there will be a mod within a week of the DLC that let's you have your crossbow-cake and eat people too

Perhaps you could play a vampire Vampire Hunter, like I did in Oblivian

I wouldn't be suprised if that's where/how the Dawnguard were founded

    Re: Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Some new details emerged on behalf of the Dawnguard beta players. One of the new shouts, other than Soul Tear and 'drain life', seems to summon the undead dragon that teaches it to you; arrows are also able to be smithed - without the aid of modifications.

    • Dragonbone Weapons can be crafted at any forge, requiring Dragon Bone (obviously), Ebony Ingots and Leather. The weapons you can create are the same as normal smithing possibilities, including Dragonbone Arrows.
    • Horseback combat will include a variety of weapons - including crossbows - but not spells.
    • Crossbows are slower to reload than bows, but can fire a loaded shot instantly. It also provides an opportunity to stagger an enemy.
    • If you choose to side with the vampire faction, you will gain access to Castle Volkihar - which will grant access to vampiric powers and blood potions (which count as feeding).
    • Choosing to join the Dawnguard will gain access to Fort Dawnguard, which will provide new weapons and armour and give you the ability to hire armoured troll companions.
    • You will visit the new location in the plane of Oblivion, Soul Cairn.
    • You will encounter an undead dragon Dumehviir, who can teach you special Dragon Shouts.
    • One Dragon Shout will let you summon Dumehviir himself, while a second will let you drain the lifeforce from an enemy.
    • During the section in the Soul Cairn you can gain access to and free Arvak. This undead horse has blue flames and can be summoned at will (including outside the Soul Cairn).
    • You will encounter Legendary Dragons, which will increase the maximum level of the dragons and make tougher fights.
    • Other new enemies include Gargoyles, Death Hounds, Armoured Trolls, Bonemen, Wrathmen and Boneyard Keepers.
    • Characters can be redesigned with a character in The Ratways at Riften. Race and gender must stay the same, but all other features can be altered.
The full perk trees for Vampire Lords and Werewolves are also revealed.

    "Vampire" isn't a race, it's a condition inflicted by a disease.

    :P

And destroying the sun would, incidentally, wipe out all green plant life, which would cause widespread famine and starvation among most of the intelligent species across the entire world, along with the wholesale die-off of most of the animal life out there. So unless there's some sort of as-yet unstated element of this plan that we haven't heard about yet, you're looking at a potential global holocaust.

Assuming that the plan is even feasable, of course.

Destroying the sun would have more impact than just killing the plants Assuming it just disappears w/o going nova (which would quite simply destroy most of the planetary system), it would disrupt the planet's orbit (global scale tsunamis and earthquakes). The lack of a sun would also quite simply turn the planet into a big chunk of ice, I'm afraid. The vampires shouldn't be able to survive that any more than any other species
I think we're taking things too seriously, in fact

Not necessarily. Keep in mind that Tamriel's celestial bodies don't work quite the same way as ours. The chief bit of evidence regarding this are the moons, and their current unusual state. So it's hard to state exactly what the full extent of shutting down the sun would be. It's also unclear whether his plan would merely block the light (and somehow permit the warmth to get through as well as keep the mass in place) or make the sun disappear completely. The former would eliminate all plant life (no sunlight means no photosynthesis, and eliminating the sunlight would be the entire point of a plan like this one), while the latter would be somewhat more... colorful... assuming that Tamriel's orbital physics works the same as our own.

Horseback combat is already in the 1.6 patch, which the xbox at least already has.

Yeah, I know. It bothers me that practically every news source mentions mounted combat as though it's a feature to be added with Dawnguard.

Enemies get it in Dawnguard, I think 1.6 added it for the player only

Yup, horse combat is already in the xbox version
Which to my dismay meant that my character who is immune to animal attacks from anything smaller than a bear was very nearly slain in 2 hits by a lowly mudcrab while on horseback

Although the patch never sorted that glitch that occasionally spawns mammoths near..I forget where but they spawn about 200ft in the air, fall and die.

Is that so? Thanks for that, Charax. Do you know if quests like, oh say, the Civil War are updated with cavalry engagements?
