Thread: Some Dark Elf Rumours

    Re: Some Dark Elf Rumours

Personally, I'm a troops guy. Especially given the slant towards large blocks of infantry in this edition, you are going to be painting a LOT more basic troops than anything else. Taking that into account, I mostly consider which army to collect based on the quality of the core. That's why I haven't been won over by the current strategy of leaving old sub-standard or mediocre plastic core troops as is, while releasing new crazy monsters and warmachines. If the new Dark Elves are the same old spearmen and crossbowmen with some weird looking flying chariot and a re-done centre piece (Cauldron of Blood I assume), then I certainly won't be tempted. I felt the same way about TKs (no new skeletons) and Empire (no new state troops). The Skaven release, on the other hand, was ace because of the new clanrats/slaves and stormvermin. I reaaaally hope that DE get new core infantry. If not, no amount of flying chariots and monsters is going to catch my interest. It's like putting a cherry on a stale cake or garish make-up on an old hag (sorry, Hellebron).

    Re: Some Dark Elf Rumours

Since hydra is a SoM monster with considerable upgrade options a plastic kit would make sense.

I would image the new book would include a chimera since the fluff is there. They will likely tone down the handlers, they are overpowered.

Anyone heard any book rumors? Will GW delete all the good magic items and keep the rubbish?
    Any new units?

I wrote a letter to Jervis with my wish list and he passed it along to the DE author, one can only hope. It actually got a signed letter back!

I asked for changes to RBT points cost, give hags and assassins better protection, make a Khainite core choice (cultists), monstrous infantry (some sea monster like thing), and the option to field a corsair, Khainite or standard themed list.

It really doesn't have an extensive list of upgrade options. It can spit poison instead of spitting fire and it can get a poisonous bite. Neither requires extra modelling options.

I think it was Harry or Hastings or someone like that who said that WoC would be in 2012 Q4, with "some releases" for Fantasy filling the gap between Empire and that. What are the chances (realistically) of those releases being, at least in part, DE-related? I mean, I'm not trusting them to be DE, of course, but right now I can't think of an army that would benefit so much from getting new minis.
Except, of course, TKs. Either way, win-win for me

Sorry not a SoM player, but don't they get some other 'standard' monster upgrades. Tail whip or something?

Also the points costs increase is probably a hint at future DE book costs, plus handlers on top of that. BTW who ever heard of poisonous hydras?

    How about the original one?
Hercules dipped his arrows in it's poisonous blood after killing it and it had poisonous breath as well. In fact, it was supposedly so poisonous that even it's tracks was deadly. Much like the Beast of Nurgle, another Hydra copy.

Why no go damn dark riders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll tell you what mate; the fact that you've gotten 100% positive replies on Warseer of all places is as sure a sign as any that you should start the army.

Knowledge: Know your own and opponents armies rules and units.
Experience: Good grasp of tactics and how rules impact on this.
Luck: At least getting an average deal from the dice.
Psych: Sometimes you can convince the opponent they are facing an uphill battle.

My thoughs exactly. I really don't understand that policy, and I'm very afraid of the future dwarf releases: I don't care about a new crazy gigantic steam golem kit if I have to manage with the terrible plastic core infantry...

Don't understand this need to re-do DE warriors. Surely if they do Black Guard plastic kit you can just use those models instead. Steam Golem for DE would be a joke. That would be like giving Dwarves some Cold One Cavalry. GW need to focus on Black Guard, Executioners, Witch Elves, and a Cauldron of Blood. Cold One Chariot and plastic Dark Pegasus would also be good. The rest are fine as they are.

If you read my post a second time, you maybe notice that I was talking about a DWARF steam golem.

And if you use the black guard models to represent warriors... what you'll use to represent black guard?

    Re: Some Dark Elf Rumours

Also, the $$ would be bonkers to do that, assuming the price will be in the same range as the greatswords box.

Personally, I'm extremely worried about any of the Dark Elf range that gets 're-imagined'.

The models were what drew me to the Dark Elf in the first place, and I feel that the Cold One Knights (the knights only - I love the mounts) and Corsair redesign doesn't entirely fit with the existing range. The Cold Ones have grown somewhat on me, but I'm still not a massive fan on the new Corsairs. I worry for what is going to happen to the sleek and deadly looking Black Guard and Executioners (I don't terribly worry for the WE's, as they'll still be semi nude crazy women)...... Yes, they need to not be metal, but I'm scared for what the redesign will to to their aesthetic.
And to that end, I'm currentyl trying to buy up cheap BG and Exec's so that no matter what, I know I will have models that I like the look of.

    My speculation based on past releases;
Models; A Cauldron/new-to-armybook-large-centrepiece model dual kit, a new chariot (which may possibly also be a dual kit for a new chariot unit option), they'll redo ALL of the metal infantry, finecast the dark riders (not sure about the sculpt), plastic Malekith - with optional legs so that he fits on the Black Dragon previously released (saves having two of the same dragon in seperate kits, and also allows him to be fielded on foot, and replace the chariot crew - for all his options), and maybe some more finecast characters.
Rules; Lose alot of magic items, I think we'll keep Banner of Nagaryhte (hopefully with changed rules), Exectutioner's Axe, hopefully sac dagger, but increase points/once per phase rather than once per cast, or, if once per cast, if the dice comes up a six, the sorceress is attacked by the victim - something along those lines.

These "waves" or small releases have my hopes up. Is there any rumors as to what they are, might they include some DE kits??? Were talking only a few months away here.

    Re: Some Dark Elf Rumours

I've noticed that GW are planning on starting to release upgrade packs (similar to what Privateer are doing) to change basic plastic sets into character/elite minis. Next month should see the release of some Necron Destroyers along with Finecast sets to change them into Destroyer Lords and Heavy versions. This sounds very promising for us Dark Elf players as it would make it so much easier for them to release our Characters like Malekith and Hellebron in an upgrade set for the DE Dragon and Chaos Manticore.

Most of my Wood Elf models are from 5th/6th ed. That's when I started collecting, but I've bought a load since they (i.e. dryads, glade guard) were remodelled. Rumours will probably flow nearer the time of release, so you could stock up on models you currently like that will be redone. Failing that, once they're out of print, Ebay (or Warseer Trading forum) is your friend.

Skaw's initial optimisim about Wood Elves being re-released in mid 2013 is slipping... Early 2014 ftw!

Agreed about the models. The 6th ed sculpts brought me over from 40k. Nothing before or since has quite captured the imagination like those Executioners or to a lesser extent the corsairs, knights, BG and WE.

The big twisted headpieces on the knights, Morathi and Malekith were also great. Unfortunately, they don't really translate well into plastic judging by the new knights and dragonlord.

Unfortunately, I just can't see them keeping the same style as the executioners since there is really nothing 'Khainite' about it. The same may well apply to the witch elves too now that raging heroes and (supposedly) Avatars of War are producing quality 'scantily clad 2hw elf ladies'. GW might 'warhammerify' both units up. BG, I think will stay largely the same but with better sculpts. I'm ok whatever they do. If the new sculpts are nice, I'll get them. If not, I have ample models of each unit except WE and we at least have other companies as options if GW do something silly like bring back the old big hair WE of earlier editions.

One good thing that has come out of the new plastics is better looking weapons on the models instead of the silly things they used to have on the 6th ed sculpts.

I actually had a "*****?" moment where I had to read it like 4 times before giving up on understanding it at all.

He wants to know what page out of these 17, are the rumors for models and rules to be found. I think he wants a summary instead of searching. I am guessing English isn't a strong language for him (nothing wrong that that, as long as it's not his native language).
