An evening with friends (the start of a warband)

Had some friends over for painting this evening. I had just finished my first 5 beastmen last night and was really going to sit this one over and just chat along... but then I noticed some boxes lying around, empire militia and archers specifically. There was just enough bodies for 11 guys so I got the idea of doing another mercenary warband. I just love mercenaries =) This time its gonna be reiklanders. Got some pics...

    pic1: group shot
    pic2: captain
    pic3: champions

I was lucky to get the coat body for captain and champions. I think it looks uniform without being army like. Also even luckier, I had 5 heads with those bearpelt hats for all my heroes.

Next up is youngbloods and henchmen. Not much to say, I wanted a blunderbuss guy, if nuffin else for the psychological effect he has, altho so far in my current warband the blunderbuss has made its money back several times over. I also wanted him to look like a real crook. My shooting warbands are hated in the group I play so I thought he would reflect that (but in all honesty its not all warranted as I get beat up alot, ppl just dont like their guys dying to shooting for some reason).

    pic1: youngbloods
    pic2: blunderbuss and warriors
pic3: the reiklander pride, marksmen. I put some extra effort into making these look cool, with limited resources mind you! =D

Nice stuff! I love things like this. Any chance of seeing them painted soon?

Nice minis, that cap'n is looking pretty badass
I know what you mean by the *Blunderbuss-Syndrom* - nobody charges up a narrow street with five guys unscathed when that guy is there

Keep up the work, and do show some terrain if you have it

    Lo.
My beastmen are getting my main focus atm, but I'm painting these up as a side project.
The two champions are done, I wanted the warbands overall look to be rugged and worn, nothing like my flamboyant Marienburgers.

Their faces are washed and look quite nice but for some reason my camera will just focus one color and the faces look alot more bland on these pictures. ohwell =)

Next up is a couple of archers, but first a Marienburger hero with flail. I rolled a "lads got talent" last time and forgot to paint one up for tonights game. Will do my best to get some shots of the scenery =)

Oh, they're nice. They look dead tough, suitable for the mean streets of Mordheim!

Ooh they're lovely. The bases are just the way I like them - simple and effective.

Re: An evening with friends (the start of a warband)

This will be my list btw, unless ofc something is seriously wrong with it =P

    Captain
    Duelling pistol, sword

    Champion
    Twohanded sword

    Champion
    Sword, club

    Youngblood
    Sword

    Youngblood
    Sword, club

    Marksman
    Blunderbuss

    Marksmen x3
    Longbow, club

    Warriors x2
    Sword

    495 gc

I love duelling pistols and I'm getting some experience using them atm with my Marienburger warband. Clubs for my marksmen, its cheap and will really help them when they inevitably get charged. I plan to use them as moving support as much as possible, so no crossbows. Also I wanted a twohander champion for moving up as support and taking out those knocked down and stunned enemies for fast experience. Also, lots of swords coz I like parries.

My general tactic playing with shooty warbands is to move up and position openly for as many shots as possible, trying to lure the enemy out and move back with a few more shots. Then I like to take his charge with some good positioning for intercepts to have recovery phase right after first clash and then counter-charge. Especially against Undead where a messed up charge due to Fear will leave your warband in a crappy position with 2 rounds of CC until recovery. Ouch.

Re: An evening with friends (the start of a warband)

I wouldn't recommend 2-h weapons on Marienburg Champions as they don't have access to Strength skills. A halberd or morningstar wouldn't be bad on them if you are after boosted strength. Morningstars can be used with a shield for a measure of protection, although the +1S would only last the first round.

If you did want a guy with 2-h weapon then a promoted henchmen would be the best bet as he could choose Strength skills as one of his 2 options. While you could go for it on the Captain, his high Initiative would be wasted before he got the strongman skill.

Good advice. I'd also spend an extra 3gc to get the blunderbuss armed marksman a hammer. You've got the gold and it doubles his attacks.

Ah yes I'll get a club for the blunderbuss guy =)

I am aware Marienburger champions dont have the strength skills. This warband will be Reiklanders, I was just making a comparison between this warband and my current one; Marienburgers =P

    Necro!

Hi guys. I decided to get some work done on this warband again after a short hiatus. I havent had access to my paints and brushes for a couple of weeks, and I've been focusing more on my beastmen and on top of that, I've been playing a load of mordheim games

Excuses excuses, the plan is to have this warband ready by the time we reset our current running campaign.
I'm having second thoughts about them being Reiklanders. I want to try Middenheimers for a couple of reasons, one being I dont really want another shooty warband. I've focused my Marienburgers alot towards shooting. Also playing and researching more than anyone in our group, I would look forward to the challenge of playing Middenheimers. Not to sound cocky, and I sure as hell dont win every game.... but I really think that could also level the playing field in our group

Aaanyways, finished these three guys tonight. Two warriors and my captain.

Also put together an Imperial Assassin using an empire archer body, bretonnian bowman head and a crossbow pistol and thorwing knifes from the mordheim accessory sprue and a Pit Fighter using an old Dark Elf houndmaster I bought on ebay, for the dogs really.

So I've decided if I'm gonna run Middenheimers I will require two wolfs. One for the Priest of Ulric incase he get that wolf spell, and one for the Priest's companion. Anyone happen to know of any cool Wolf models? Doesnt have to be GW ofc, and while I'd prefer if they came in 1s or 2s, I could order a larger pack if they're cool enough =)

There's a few of the metal Chaos Hounds that would be pretty cool if you remove the Chaosy bits with greenstuff or a pair of clippers. Alas, I cannot seem to find them in the Online Store anymore, but I'll see if I can find the images on the web.

    Well whaddayaknow,

Top left and bottom right are the ones I've got and I think they're the easiest to de-Chaosify. Provided you can still lay your hands on them, offcourse.
