Yuggoth's Starspawn and the occasional commission work

    Hello there fellow randomseers!

This log will feature all of my other works, apart from the usual 40k and WHFB work I do. I'll be so bold as to throw in my commission work as well, as a possible reference to future "clients". I'm just an aspiring commission painter, so I'm not doing things as fast as I should. Nonetheless, I'll post my two ongoing commission posses here.

Another thing I'll be doing here is Malifaux. Yes, you read it right. Don't get too excited though, I haven't actually yet started on any of these, actually I just bought a couple of test miniatures from Maelstrom, and as you might have guessed, they haven't yet arrived.

The Malifaux goodness I post will be done not only by myself, but also by the girl that talked me into this, that is of course, my GF. So if you're looking for miniatures painted by a girl, this is the place (in the future).

And as no project log should start with a pictureless update, here's one of the commissions I'm doing at the moment:

    OMG Orc BB goodness!

    One of them actually finished!

And speaking about miniatures painted by a girl, here's the second ever miniature by said girlfriend:

So there you go! Comments and all of the usual banter about what I should do and not do are welcome! Just so you know, the Malifaux gangs we ended up with are Kirai (for her) and The Dreamer (for me). Perhaps not the best options for starters, but miniature-wise, perfect for us!

    Cheerio chaps,
    The Goat of Yuggoth

    What you should do?
Paint more, and more quickly! Especially Malifaux!

    What you should not do?
Tell me that anybody's second miniature ever looks like that.
I am tempted to commit seppuku with a size 2 sable-hair brush.

Working on it, pal Just the usual exuses (school, work, Christmas) keeping me busy. I'll snap a pic of the other commission work as an appetizer for you tomorrow It's Warmachine Mercenaries, so you will probably enjoy it!

Don't do it! She's Russian! There's no way any of us can compete with that!

And I was astonished as well! The first tryout was a bit of an "don't use that much metallic paint, especially on skin!", but yeah, she got the drive of the hobby pretty quick. I quess she just has a good tutor, as well as she's been a natural since birth. My mom used to teach her when she was little (different school obviously), and she drew realistic faces then, so that explains most of it really.
She's dreaming to become a tattoo artist some day, I'll tell you if that comes true so that you may have her talents on your skin in the future A bit of a brag here, but I'm just proud of her actively trying to get into my hobbies..

    Cheers,
    Goatee

Re: Yuggoth's Starspawn and the occasional commission work

Well this started out good didn't it? I was unable to locate my camera (under the sheets, who'd have guessed?) so I was unable to provide pics of the second bunch I'm working on. However, I'll do it now!

If any of these pics seem HUGE to you, don't worry! It's just photobucket acting up. So this is the second project, 10 of these to do, this one is still missing some work on the green bits.

    MOAR Orc BB Goodness!

And this is what she's been working on!

    And something quite unfinished here...

As I was uploading the pictures, I noticed some nice weather shots that my girlfriend had taken. Here's a good example of how Finland looks right now (still no snow... I blame the global warming!)

And for the sake of total randomness, a meal fit for kings:

So, until further picture uploading progress I'd want you to comment on something. Something you'd like to see more of perhaps? Something you'd like to see me do (ask anything, I have quite many mini's, although most of it is GW). If you'd like some elaboration, or perhaps a small tutorial, I can do it!

    Cheers,
    Goatee

Don't worry mate, you should've seen them fresh Sorry to have startled you with a bit of crustaceans, but I like seafood!
Perhaps I'll post salmon or some really nice caviar next time so no one gets freaked out by nasty crabs

As to what I've been up to... ...Warploque zombies! I'll have the first of the bunch painted up in a few days! Of course, more coverage of this will be in my other blog, linked in the sig. But I'll post a pic or two of them here as well! Because I'm random like that!

But, for starters, look at the nifty and well proclaimed packaging they came in (and again, hold it until Photobucket is kind enough to adjust these to their right sizes):

And the contents of said packaging

I'm just too excited about these really, no flaws at all and they arrived pretty quick, so I'll be sure to drop in at Warploque Miniatures when the time is right!

And on another note, I'm currently painting a Collodi (Malifaux) for a painting comp, too bad I can't provide pics of it until the comp is over in January.

    Cheers until next time,
    Goatey

Warploques models look great and reading his sculpting blog gets me very interested in the models. Its great to see you are going to be doing some so that we can see the quality from a customers point of view and im particularly interested in seeing what you are going to be doing with them.

Great work so far from both yourself and the girlfriend (at least your girlfriend doesnt try to paint everything in pink and glitter!)

They really are. So much fun to paint, I can safely say that these are the best zombies I've ever seen in plastic or resin!

They are a commission Blood Bowl team I'm doing, checkers was one of the requirements.

    And thanks a bunch!

So, here goes, the first painted Zombul Pirate! I did a bit of a mistake by undercoating him grey, which meant a lot of washes! But in the end, I'm content! The next ones are going to be undercoated black, so I think they'll get finished quicker!

And, My gf wanted to thank you all by painting up her fourth and fifth miniatures! Here you go!

Again, apologies for huge pictures, wait until tomorrow and they should be the right sizes!

I'm off to mum's in two days and I don't think I will be doing that much painting till after new years, so give me a shout or two about these! And as always, if you guys want a tutorial on anything at all, it's just a few keystrokes away!

    Cheers,
    Goatey

Nice, I like how the zombie looks at the sword, wondering the hell what it is.

Nicely done miniatures by your girlfriend as well, good painting. The upper one seems to be a dragon but what is the lower one?

I just jammed that sword into place and wondered what it looked like. You nailed it!

The miniatures were ordered from Maelstrom, I think the product name was "Orphans Chimeras". No idea what the second one is, studio paintjob was pink. There was a third one, a baby griffon. I started painting it, but I think I'll let her finish it

So, no pics sadly But, I preordered some VC, and you'll get to see them as soon as they land! However, I also ordered something quite disturbing from the Banebeasts range, to use as something big for my vampires. Wait until the package arrives and you'll be rewarded

No sweat, I'm having a painting collab on Saturday night with my GF and my brother (username Dreffbuilder here), my goal is 500pts of Vampires in 12 hours. So you'll get plenty of that on Sunday or shortly after. Also, the first link in the signature will guide you to the actual Vampire plog I have here, which will surely sate your thirst until then

In the meantime, news! My other birthday order arrived and boy can I not wait to get my grubby hands on that beastie. No pics for now, but I'll snatch a few while building and preparing the thing.

What thing? THIS THING! The packaging was amazing, the bits are in top-notch condition and I nearly pissed myself when I saw the actual model.
    Soooooo Cooooolll...

Well, I'm off to drool at the workshop/desk of doom, keep on doing your things and keep yourselves happy!

Re: Yuggoth's Starspawn and the occasional commission work

    Hello again!

First of all, WINTER is finally cold and unforgiving (as it should), but also sometimes quite beautiful. This is one of the pictured reasons to visiting Finland:

    Isn't it just plain pretty?

On to the miniatures, then. First of all, the progress on the Vivicoct, and also a nice little scale shot:

Still much more to do, and I can't even spray it in this weather (-30 degrees)...
Well, the next thing is, VC!

These are the miniatures I painted in one night. Bar for the banshee, which I just painted up for good measure just now when I was taking pics.
And lastly I present to you the first Malifaux miniature of this plog, painted by my gf:

That shiny thing in the intestines is nail polish.

Well, that's all for now, stay tuned as always, and comments are always welcome!

    Cheers,
    Goatee

Re: Yuggoth's Starspawn and the occasional commission work

    Hello Goat of Yuggoth,

I'm glad your thumb is better now. I think the first picture is beautiful but U.K. is more than cold enough, thankyou!

You've painted a huge amount of stuff in one night and it all looks lovely. I like the cloaks on your ghosts a lot, they're subtle ethereal!

I might suggest doing some more with the handle on the ghosts scythe but it would be very hard, I think.
The skeletons look good together and scary like they should

I hope you will do some of the new flying ghouls as they're very pretty in that horrible way!

Good idea to use nail polish on the zombies intestine, if I ever get any zombies I will borrow that idea!

    Best Wishes,

    Shush
