Thank you for the info Voss it's much appreciated.
Does anyone know if there will be RP servers on launch?
I believe so...
If you go to the community->forums page on the main site, there is a server status link. It may actually identify each server by type. Or it may be just name and status, I'm not sure and can't check at work.
Edit: Aha, I sort of can now for whatever reason (though it isn't particularly compatible with the old version of IE we have in the office); but yes, there are RP_PVP and RP_PVE servers.

And for the record, Sanctum of the Exalted is a fantastic name for an RP server

How does respec'ing work? If I am a Sith Inquistitor Assassin, I can't switch to heal, right... because it's a different advance class.
The imperial agent operative class can be stabby or a healer, right? Could an imperial agent operative switch from being a dps to being a healer... since that's the same advanced class?
Basically, is there a way I can have the option to be a sneaky/finesse melee character with the option to heal? I played a feral/resto druid in WoW, I liked having that flexibility.
If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough.
Its complicated and a little on the restrictive side.
You can't switch advanced classes. You can switch how you spent your points (you have to go talk to someone, probably on your capital planet or the fleet station)
The skill trees for the ACs with a healer component are relatively straightforward: each class has a shared tree (for both ACs), then they have a 'dps' tree and a 'healing' tree. So, basically, yes. The operative, scoundrel, mercenary, (commando?), sorcerer and sage can opt toward healing or dps. Not sure how optimal and/or necessary the specs are (haven't really studied the skill trees), so it may be possible to get away with dabbling or doing both at once. But I'm sure the optimizers will weigh in on what are the 'right' builds sooner or later (probably sooner).
Personally, I found a lot of the skill tree benefits to be fairly minor. Trivial percentage bonuses at the base of the tree, and eventual unlocking of real abilities. It will be very difficult to notice much of a difference in spec until about 20-25th level, and even then... I got a bounty hunter powertech to 25 during the stress test and was fairly unimpressed with the skill choices. Around 23 or so I got an ability that allowed me to stab someone and leave a DoT effect, and felt rather underwhelmed. The tanking aspect of the powertech, otoh, were trainable abilities that I shoved off to the side and ignored- basically I could tank without spending points in the skill tree, though someone who did would probably be more effective at it. Instead I tried to see if I could DPS in what was the 'tanking' advanced class. It seemed to work out fine, but I didn't spend all that much time grouped. Though I did team up with a Marauder at the end of the Balmora storyline, and he was impressed with how quickly I tore through packs of enemies. Not sure I trusted his opinion, though, as he simply didn't seem that skilled. (Looked like he was button mashing to me, rather than building up rage and spending it effectively).

I got in to early access in the very first wave, but then I knew I was gonna love it as I had played the beta. What ever peoples comments about the access waves though there has to my knowledge been a single server problem and thats it, not to mention ho horrendous bottlenecks anywhere which is also very very nice.
Happy to answer what I can here, as for healing all 3 healer types can heal quite well, the Smuggler/Imperial agent healer had stealth, and the Trooper/Bounty Hunter heal while wearing heavy armour. The consular/inquisitor is much more of a traditional caster type healer.
Little bit of news for those who missed it or aren't following the official forums (for which I blame no one):
Amazon US is shipping things early, so the game arrives starting the 16th and by the 19th, unless you ordered one of the slower methods, in which case they are estimating by the 24th. From what I understand early shipping was already going on in the EU.

So preorders up toward the end of november get invites tomorrow. Interesting day for me, I suspect, as I'm right there toward the end, and could fall tomorrow or friday. Though what will be really fun for me is being bored out of my mind during holiday travel after the official launch and wishing I could play. I guess on the upside, it means I'll miss the real chaos that comes with the official launch and week following.A quick update on today's invites, and a little preview of tomorrow.
Today, we invited people who had pre-ordered up to the very beginning of October (roughly). Tomorrow, we're going to be inviting the same number of people again; that will take us up to the last week or so of November. On Friday, we'll be inviting even more, and we'll give you an update on that tomorrow.
You'll see more servers coming online tomorrow, and almost certainly there will be some queuing. That was always expected. As a reminder, our plan here is to maintain healthy server populations post launch, and during the excitement of launch that will mean queues. That said, we'll be working hard to keep those queues reasonable.
We'll check back in tomorrow with another update.

Such a brilliant MMO, got in at 7pm on the 13th and I think I've only slept about ten hours since. It reminds me of WoW, in the sense that WoW brought together all the best of online games together in one easy to play package. SWTOR has done that with the last seven or eight years worth of developments in mmos. If they can keep the amount of content and quality up I'll be very, very pleased.
I've played SWG, WoW, AoC, EVE and LOTRO (plus others I've probably forgotten) from launch and I've never had one as this. Though technically the launch isn't until the 20th.

So, as I feel like living vicariously while I'm waiting for access, any good memorable moments so far? What class did you start with?
Read the rules, or the owl will eat you.
he he, I have a Smuggler and a Trooper and a Jedi Knight.
yeah I know a few alreadyAlso have one made up of all the other 5 classes though they havent been played at all yet.
I have an Imperial Agent and a Sith Inquisitor, getting the spaceship on the Agent and my first lightsaber on the SI were both extremely memorable moments. Also some of the dialogue is great, particularly as a dark side Inquisitor. What a b*tch.
Another memorable moment was assaulting a Republic space station in my spaceship and a wing of allied fighters. It felt like Tie Fighter mixed with Empire at War space combat, super fun.

Nice. Only did a couple space missions during the stress test- never had allies. Sounds fun.
My invite came during my break, so only two more hours of work to go before I can get started.
