    Allow me first to apologise, there will be no current work in progress photo's for about a week, which is a trick i usual hate when i see i log, so hence the apology, but the pictures will start in a weeks time. and with that...

    Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the blood pact log of my humble self. So allow me to explain what is to occur here, over the past few months i have been steadily rebuilding my love for the hobby, as well as parts of my life. around six months ago i came to a head with a depression that had, unknowingly to me, been crushing me for over a year. Suprisingly what pulled me through was just one moment, just one model. The grot tank. It inspired me to build over 3k+ worth of works, and paint around 1-1.5ks worth in just 5 months. However, there comes a point when you hit a limit with an army and even my love of greenskins can't overide the fact that they've become, since 5th edition, one of the lesser races. It also didn't help i'm become a complete tread head. So, i asked myself, whats the solution?

    I used to be an iron warrior fan of epic proportions (at one point i had a serious volume of armoured might, including two baneblades back in the days when the plastic kit was only a few months old) but since 2007 i haven't been able to use them with codex; not quite chaos marines. It would be a.... an act of heresy against the dark gods to do so. But there is something else that niggled at me. Chaos. Chaos has always been one of my major draws to the hobby, in fact probably the largest, and in 2007 i made an armoured fist company and a few test models for the Blood pact. This was the result:

    At the time i was happy with them, but i got sucked in to orks when the codex came out and i was forever chosen by gork and mork to be a vessel of their will.

    But khorne cannot be so easily dismissed, and since i am no longer grapling with my depression on a daily basis, but instead finding ways to beat its causes, i now find the voice of chaos whispers to me. So it was i commited myself to my next major project. How major you ask? Very. Insanely big, to the point where i'm not sure i can justify the expenditure, but at the same time i need to do it. So What is it?

    Well, the title sort of gives that away. I want to build a major blood pact armoured division, with a host of lemans, chimera, artillery pieces and super heavies. I want to bring the full might of Gaur to the field, and i want to fulfill my urge to own an armoured company. So next week, as a christmas present to myself, i am buying the models to complete the following 750 list;

    +HQ+ 125
    Headquarters Unit
    Grenade Launcher x4

    ++ Troops ++ 240
    Veteran Squad #1
    Grenade Launcher x3
    Chimera

    Veteran Squad #2
    meltagun x3

    ++ fast attack ++130
    Vendetta

    ++ heavy support ++ 255
    Leman Russ, heavy bolters, heavy stubber
    Hydra

    Total 750
    it's got alot of blast template potential, enough armour to worry people and enough anti-tank/monstro creature to put down anything too hard.i know the stubber is an unusual choice on the leman, but when i worked the points out i had 10 going spare so i thought to myself... get a stubber, and the leman is the only tank in that list that's going the ability to use it with an increased chance of reaping its points cost back.

    It'll expand from there, but this is only month 1's list, so i've got alot to do before i start looking for more friends. If there is any C&C going, i'll gladly listen.

    Really looking forwards to your work on this, Hawke.
    I always enjoy seeing your log/plog progress, but it makes it easy to enjoy when the building and painting on display is of your really good (and inspirational) standard.

    I've just finished reading the 'Blood Pact' novel and -although I don't think I got a real feel for them from the book- I am sure you can do true justice to their particular brand of heresy.

    I'm very glad you're back for what's sure to be another awesome hobby journey and I am sure this is a sentiment which many here will echo for you.

    thanks man! yeah, i love chaos, it just went dead to me when they released 4/5th ed codex, they neutered half the units i used and removed all the fun i used to have with them.

    Thanks andy for those kind words. I hope i can provide a new or at least more developed take on the Pact, and since you've read the book rescently you'll know what the unit up today is.

    I managed to find a mini i could paid without any draw backs to future progress, one of the rogue psyker units i got off a friend. I've decided to make him a Gore Mage (played as part of the battle pysker unit). This is how he looks;

    Allow me to explain my scheme; standard pact, red cloth, dark iron/black armour, however in this case i've gone with a lot of blood. a hell of a lot of blood. The reason is; gore mages use blood to envoke daemons and do dark rituals, so whilst not strictly a psyker they tap into the warp. The result of this, in the case i'm using is that rivers of blood flow from them whenever they begin a blood ritual, and since blood in the realm of khorne is usually boiling, you can see why it's melted the snow theme i'm running with. The skin has turned blue from lack of blood/oxegen (which wouldn't be fatal unless he got perils of warp and was exsanguinated)

    C&C welcomed on him, i'm quite happy with the rivers of blood thing, since this is a khorne army it kind of makes sense...

    I like the snow and the bases. It provides a good contrast with all the dark earthy tones and blood gore and grime. What did you use to make the snow?
    Also great green stuff wizardry with the grotesque masks.

    An ambitious plan you have here, considering all the other big projects you have going. I suppose that shouldn't suprise me too much at this point though, Hawke

    I'm glad to hear you're on the mend - inspiring stuff.

    As for the Pact - they look good. Looking forward to seeing this plog grow. I'd agree that buying in chunks with the IG is the way to go. They can quickly get to be an overwhelming project when you consider all the grunts/tanks that you'll be wanting.

    How are you planning to model the Pact?

    Baking powder, as for the snow, i'm not sure i'll be using in the final force, i'm planning on developing a more urban slaughter theme to them, try and get something unique going. But thanks man!

    Hehe, well my orks are getting benched for a bit, i've had a good run with them and there comes a point when you have to admit, its time for change. i also fancy an army that doesn't have the AV of a paper cup.

    Tank wise? couldn't say, it's going to be alot of unique conversions and additions, probably limbs and trophies, blood stained khorne symbols, heretical texts and so forth. Troops wise, pretty much as shown, with each model being slightly different

    Thanks convie! i must admit, i do have something of a soft spot for the pact... they've had a grip on me almost as long as the iron warriors have. since i've got 7+ months till i get to see if i i'm going back to the legion its plenty of time to get the pact done.

    Final plans for this are at least 1 leman of each varient, 6 of the standard kind, 10 armoured veterans squads, 3 command platoons, 2 lord commissars, a few other bits of pieces from the infantry section including sniper squads. 6 sentinals, all the artillery you could want, 2 manticores, a deathmissile majiger, a fair few of the various basalisk varients. at least one of each super heavy, probably 2-3 baneblades. im also hoping to produce a good few stalk tanks, maybe even cast them.

    Re: 88th Blood Pact Armoured Regiment

    This looks like the start of a really nice and characterful army. I like the Ogryn best of all. He just has that edge that tips him over into chaos, I think.

    The only thing with the Grotesque masks (this is a masks thing and not related to your realisation of them) is that they make me think of Slaanesh..... I guess due to costume balls etc. and The Masque, of course.

    Great Green stuff work and the Gore Mage guy is truly disturbing. I particularly like the way you kept that bit of virgin snow on the base for the contrast.

    Awesome stuff!

    Looking forward to seeing more of this, your painting style has a nice gritty, almost loose quality to it which I really like. The contrast of the snow against that dirty muted red is very effective.
    Plus Blood Pact are always ace.

    thanks man! my styles evolved through a long process, but it boils down to my view of 40k; it needs to be grimdark, not bright neat colours on nice soft grass.

    update time. New heavy weapons team built from scraps, no finished men yet, but the gun and base is done, including my take on blood pact heavy weapons team mobility.

    If you keep up the masks and dirty gore in the first pics, this should be really great. The masked Ogryn is cool. Getting a real 'melt movie' vibe off the Gore Mage.

    thanks man! oddly enough i had that scene in indiana jones in mind, with the guy melting, only its khorne so, he's probably just being boiled down into blood.

    yeah it'll be a while, i need to build and finish my 750 for first. the good news is, its all ordered now.

    Now for the update, in 8 days i have an apoc game, and foolishly i decided to roll guardsmen. since i ownly own 2 lemans russes that haven't been... remodelled my Gitzkrieg i need to make more. PAPER TIMEZ ahead. i need to make 7 standard pattern russ, and one more of these bad boys;

    Thats right, i'm rolling a 3 man tank sniper squad. Apoc is the perfect scale for these guys to work at, since i've never been able to justify them in normal games. I've remodelled an old russ i got from ebay in that squad, since it had No spons and needed a new turret i've rebuilt it. it needs some work before its complete (any some heavy bolters) but so far i'm happy with the framework for it.

    Once again i extend a thanks to all who view and comment on this thread, i am always open for critique and suggestions! One thing i would ask is, if your going to rate this thread, please wait until i am in a possition to produce the quality of work intend to keep up through out this project. At the moment i am using old models and battered kits to fill in a few blanks in my work. I am hoping this will become my first 5 star thread, so i ask for your patience until i've earnt that rating.

    I know 'competitiveness' prob isn't the big thing here, but I can't help but think sniper Russes would do better with hull lascannons.

    Nice scratch sponsons, BTW.
