Painting a New Eldar Warlock Sculpt

    Hi all,

A few months ago I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to buy two fantastic Shane Hoyle Eldar Warlock sculpts. I have had one of them cast up to make a few copies for myself and my friends (I plan to do the same with the second in the New Year).

First up, the green and one of the casts:

    And my painted version:

I'm no eavy metal painter, but it will fit in nicely to my army! Just need to finish off with a nice base. Hope you like

    BTW, here's a WIP of Shane's 2nd sculpt:

Wow. The witchblade one is good but the spear one is absolutely fantastic. Oh, and good work with the paint job.

Warlock one now finished and based:

The second Warlock should be arriving with me this week and off to be turned into resin as soon as possible afterwards.

Glad you like the sculpts - Shane is a talented man!

Yeah, no kidding. I forgotten what he'd produced for GW in the past so a quick search showed that he's made some of my favourite vampire models. Much better than their current counterparts.

They look really nice, I like your choice of colours on the warlock.

I'd be interested in the second one with the spear if you have any spare when they're done.

Look what arrived in the post yesterday:

There's so much gorgeous detail on this one; fur shawl, all the runes, dangly bits on his staff. Shane described this one as an "uber warlock"...I guess I agree!

It should be off to be made into resin tomorrow

I like the sculpts, most of all the last one. But I think the legs compared to the torso are too short and the arms too long. All of them can easily tough their knees. Also the cloaks are bit flat for my taste. Still, I'd be kinda interested in the 3rd (finished 2nd) one if possible.

Flat cloaks fit with most of the GW warlocks (particularly the earlier Jes Goodwin figures). I agree that in an ideal world the legs would be a little longer (or the upper torso and arms shorter), but for me it's not a major detractor from the sculpts (on the table you probably won't notice), and they're better than a significant number of the 28mm figures on the market

I'll be posting here once the spear warlock is ready

Again if you have any spare casts I would love the chance to acquire one/both.
The spear sculpt is lovely. Can't wait to see your's painted!

I do like both, but that second one is downright amazing. It literally caused my jaw to drop it was so impressive. I'd love to get my hands on that one in particular, but both are exquisite.

Re: Painting a New Eldar Warlock Sculpt

It looks great. Both the modelling and the painting (perhaps the back of the white helmet could get a bit more coverage though, as the undercoat seems to shine through a bit)

Shane should make a few jetbike riding ones. They should really sell themselves. I see a lot of them in various Eldar lists but there aren't any models available as far as I know and due to them wearing cloaks it takes a fair bit of Greenstuff skills to make conversions look good, even with warlocks being easier to sever at the waist when casted in finecastresin.

How can Shane sell the models commercially BTW since GW are rather picky when it comes to IP and licenses. (i get that impression thet he will sell them since you say the model will be shipped away to get the resintreatment)?

I see that Shane did sculpt for GW earlier so maybe he designed some Warseer models there and have some copyright due to this but i have no idea?
