Ive done a few figures to start off with, just a battlesuit and a couple of FWs.

Very neat painting, but how about adding another color? Some plates in tan or Space Wolf gray might look good, or at least some Sept markings and patterns in a green or blue.

The quality is great, so a little more on the color scheme would be awesome.

I will agree with previous poster, you should add contrast colors. At least I would suggest to paint fire warriors fatigues in darker or lighter color (dark red or bright yellow).

    Thanks for the POSITIVEinput guys.

What i have done is use dragon red army painter spray to start with and then just inked diffrent parts of the fire warriors as i wanted the very slight shades of red to quite similar.

The fatigues and clothes are covered with Devlan mud to get the reddy brown look, and all the armour is done with Baal Red and them highlighted with Fiery orange to make it pop out a bit more. I see what your saying though and i did try it but i prefer the all red FWs.

nice army. I like the colour scheme but I think it could use another colour, particularly the fire warriors as there's not much contrast between the armour and the cloth. Tat said, its still a great looking army

Re: Rogerios Tros`san sept Tau !

Ok guys so on during the festive season i have been busily painting away and have almost managed to finish an entire kroot karnivore squad plus hounds. 4 more kroot to go till i have 12 plus 4 hounds to go with them.

I decided to go for brown and cream as the main colours on these guys as i think it suits them quite well, its quite similar to the GW colour scheme but with some subtle diffrences, i am really happy with the way they have turned out actually and am enjoying painting them. Lucky for me i have another 20 or so plus another 5 hounds sitting in the box waiting for a paintjob!

    Anyways heres the pics.

    Heres everyone so far....

and a little action shot of the kroot advancing being covered by the hammerhead

    Rogerio,

Nice start to the army. Nothing like the feeling of building and painting an army to completion.

Very nice Kroot, I like the fact they blend in with their bases. Some folks like to have contrast between figure and base, but I think yours is nice in that it keeps with the feral feel of the Tau mercenaries.

I do have one suggestion, it is related to one suggested before:

What about a thin wash of a darker ink between the armour plates on the Crisis Suit and Firewarriors? It would make your Orange highlights 'pop' more and give them better definition. It is also an easy add with a dark ink of wash, too much and you can wipe if off or completely remove it by washing the figure under a tap (after doing one pad of course, leave it too long and it will stick). Another way is to add it after a sealant coat, then it flows into the recesses better (or add a very small amount of liquid dish soap to the ink to break up the surface tension and watch it flow into cracks and crevasses).

Just a suggestion, as I understand the red aspect you are going for and the avoidance of a second contrasting colour. The inking of the breaks in the armour lets you keep that, and makes it look like every armour plate is individual and with help with your highlights. Another way to do this is an extreme highlight of lighter orange just on the upper edges of the armour. Will have a similar effect, but will make the troops brighter and that might not be your vision.

Keep of the good fight against the armies of black, white and silver.

    Cheers,

    CB

Do you mean do a darker wash on top of the red?? or instead of the red maybe use devlan and a diffrent ink on the fatigues, i know its hard to see in the pics but there is a colour diffrence between the fatigues and the armour plates.

Thanks for the suggestions though, i always appreciate comments and input

No, just in the gaps between the armour plates, something like a thin black wash or very dark red or tin bitz or some similar colour (a bit like black-lining). Not over the armour with its red and orange highlight as that would darken the colours. Basically you would be creating a shadow effect between the plates, then your orange highlight will stand out more, and it adds depth to the figures by the illusion of a shadow. It would also make the armour look different than the fatigues...whereas right now the armour plates sort of blend in with them.

Just a thought, good luck with the painting.

Ah thats good advice, i will give that a go with my next batch. Im always looking for new ways to improve my painting and that sounds like an interesting technique! After looking at your own logs i will defo try that.

    Thanks.

I feel that broadside legs really need to be stood apart to balance the overall model. Nice paint job though.

Kroot are still one of 40k's best models - your painting does them no injustice.

I agree with the other poster that the fire warriors need something different done with their cloth. The Kroot, suits and hammerhead clearly show off your skill as a painter...the poor Fire Warriors look as if you couldn't be bothered. I apologise because that sounds harsh but they would look much better with a contrasting colour and you clearly have the technical ability to pull it off. Either a pale off-white to tie them to the Kroot or something dark, perhaps a differently shaded black to tie in with the vehicles.

    Overall great looking army.

Hmmm, yes, the Kroot really do look very nice.
I like the addition of the grey to the Broadside. It breaks up all the red and works well.
Are you in Tokyo? If so, PM me. I'm looking for more gamers!

Re: Rogerios Tros`san sept Tau !

Thanks guys i do appreciate all your comments and while i do like my firewarriors i can see what you mean about them soul eater, im going for a very uniformed army with red and orange being the main colours and black and grey being used as secondary colours.

Anyways i have been busy painting and have managed to finish off both of my broadsides, and a whole unit of 3 Fireknife battlesuits.

I thought it was time to get cracking on the suits as they are so so good on the table top and just kill so much stuff!

    Heres the pics.

Heres the entire group of suits painted so far to start us off.
