Very much considering an air brush and compressor to speed up the painting process even though it is very pricey! i was thinking of one of these bad boys.
I have heard that this model is quite good, but all the bits together are going to add up to around 200 quid though with the airbrush included, im willing to pay it though if it makes things easier.
Thoughts guys?? any suggestions on the painting or air brushes?

Didn't even get a shot of my DE in! :P
Hey guys i have just finished up a unit of 4 Pathfinders for my Tau lads, i decided to paint them in a much darker way than the rest of my force as they are obviously stealthy and not supposed to be right in the forefront of the battle. Also in mind was the fact that they do take part in quite a few night time operations and i was also slightly influenced by the cool navy seal camo on BF3!!
Here they are.

Ok well im kinda thinking the interest in my army is low as over half the posts so far have been from me! and since painting 6 suits and a squad of pathfinders ive had no one comment ! Oh well i will continue for now with my first painted devilfish with SMS and a burst cannon which is a good combination against my most regular opponent the DE!
So here she is, ive made a minor tweak in relation to my other tank thats been painted and that is that i have changed the engine paint style. ive gone for an all black engine rather than the half and half method of before.
Im still not 100% on this but it does give some nice contrast to the model and saves ALOT of time going over it in black and then re painting the bits that have overlapped etc!
heres a comparison shot of the 2 engine styles. Devilfish on the right and the Hammerhead on the left.
And finally a shot of both of my fully completed tanks on their new flying stands which were done by putting an empty paint top onto a clear flying base to help with stability!
The army is starting to take shape now and so far ive painted...
4 crisis suits
9 Fire Warriors
2 Broadsides
12 kroot and 4 kroot hounds
1 Hammerhead gunship
1 Devilfish
4 Pathfinders.
to complete my 1500 point list i need to paint....
1 Piranha skimmer
1 Firewarrior shas`ui
3 Crisis suits
1 Crisis suit commander
1 Hammerhead gunship.
I am not quite sure which one to paint next though!!! any suggestions guys?

Very nice mate I just repainted my tau to a urban camo scheme from red. U do need a lil more contrast like maybe black fatigues on ya fire warriors.
BLOOD for the Blood God, Skulls for his THRONE!!!
Without sacrifice, there can be no victory!!

Rogerio,
Don't lose hart, logs can often go without comments for a while, that is why the double post rule does not apply here.
I like the idea of the Pathfinders in black to emphasize their stealth abilities.
The all black engine does make for better contrast...but there is so much detail that gets lost when you go mono-colour. Just go with whatever style you like better.
If in doubt select troop choices, as those always take a little longer and often need that little bit of extra motivation.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,
CB

Thanks for the input guys i do appreciate it !
And thanks Brown for your input on multiple occasions, your Tau log is exceptional and i always have a look in there to see a benchmark for Tau painting.
I have decided my next painting choice will be my 2nd Hammerhead as that will then complete my Heavy Support choices at both 1500 and 2000 points!
I have a slight issue however with my undercoat, i have been using Dragon red undercoat from "The army painter" and it comes out as a quite a light red shade almost with a pinky hue to it. I ran out of my original can of Dragon red and got another one i then undercoated a ton of models with it.
Once it had dried i noticed the massive diffrence in shade to the old and the new undercoat....
The thing is though i have undercoated 2 battlesuits a load of Firewarriors and a Piranah now so i can either just carry on with that shade of red or i can paint strip them and get another can as im not really happy with it.

Quick update i have finished a 2nd hammerhead and have decided that the 2nd one is how the overall vehicle scheme will be.
The Devilfish and Hammerhead both have totally black engines which i have decided to keep as it is...
A) Alot easier that having red and black engine parts and cuts the process down considerably
B) Gives alot more contrast to the models i feel, with alot of black on the extremeties like engines and weapons with the main part being red and orange gives it a good colouration.
The Original hammerhead Railgun will need to be repainted as well as i have started drybrushing my black areas with light grey to pick up details rather than paint on the thick lines to highlight the black as i dont feel it looks as good.
Also after considering alot of advice on my firewarriors i have decided that they will be getting black bodygloves under their armour plates to make them stand out alot more, this will be alot more time consuming and difficult but i feel its worth it, especially after the sheer amount of people ive had saying i should do it!!
anyways heres some tanks

THanks Chrubael, i appreciate the positive input.
Next on the agenda is doing my 2nd squad of firewarriors, however they need to stripped of their very dark undercoat and then re sprayed in my new paint! also this guy just arrived.
I know he sucks in game but its a great model and i need one for my army really, plus the fact that me and my mate are doing a Tau V DE campaign and a ethereal would need to make an appearance sometime with them being the ruling elite and all that.

Keep up the project and don't lose heart on the primer change, the three tanks you showed above all seem to be the same colour (I don't know it they are all the same base coat – but they look like they are)...once you add all your highlights, detailing and other stuff you may find the colour variation very slight...also many sealants will modify colours a little by how they reflect light. If you do face a different shaded tank that can be corrected with a thin coat of your base colour in areas of shade…then it will look like you have worked even harder to build up a highlight and change of shade.
On the Railgun and the concern over your highlight being too bright...one trick rather than going to drybrushing (which can be a little messy sometimes) is just to go over the offending overly bright highlight with a wash of the base colour (in the case of your Railgun a wash of thinned down black will work). Do it with a very watered down coat first, wait for it two dry and repeat as necessary until you get the tone you are looking for (just have some paper towel ready in case your wash runs onto other parts of the tank.
Force is looking quite unified and part of a large army, very cool.
Cheers,
CB

Thanks for the comments guys much appreciated.
Just a quick update i have been very busy indeed painting a unit of 12 Firewarriors and this time i had really put some effort into them, black body gloves sept markings etc i think they look twice as good as the old ones however it is time consuming. Im almost halfway through the unit now and will post pics soon!

The scheme is looking good Rogerio. I can understand your avoidance of painting the engines red due to the time it takes, I collected some tau many years ago and the tanks always took forever to paint! I also agree with Captain Brown, your missing out on getting the detail out. You may be able to find a middle ground where you can drybrush another colour in like a brown around the exhaust ports for extra detail or even some red so it looks like the engine has charred all over itself? Just a couple suggestions mind, looking forward to seeing these firewarroirs!![]()
I still prefer the engines with some red on them. I'd even go as far as to say they should've been all red apart from the front grill and the jet exhausts, personally, but that's just me.
Well here they are, finally done! i finished them a week ago but only just got round to basing them up.
The Firewarriors!
Alot more work been done on them in comparison to the old ones who now need to be re painted! Ive done a black body glove under the armour plate, added sept and squad markings on weapons and helmets and also re done the shoulder pads all in white to make them stand out properly.
Hope you like them! they will be on the field of battle tomorrow night night, fingers crossed their lick of paint will keep them safe![]()

Ok chaps well its update time, ive managed to paint up 2 more battlesuits and also my commander hooray!
My first addition has been my Deathrain unit! a vital vital unit in my many battles with the Dark Eldar, ive gone with a bit of variety with my suits with a ton of plasma rifles but also some flamers etc for when the enemy gets in real close.
To get the twin linked missile pods i used the spare missiles that were in the Hammerhead box as i did buy 3 of them![]()
as you can see i have included Markings on these bad boys as i have with all of my other units as well now, the one with the Grey helmet is the team leader.
Next up is Commander Rau`Tro who i decided needed to stand out from the crowd, i was at first going to paint him up like my pathfinders but i decided that didnt make alot of sense and in the end went for an inverted scheme of black armour with red under parts which are a total reverse from my battlesuit units ...
Anyways i think he looks as i intended him but he did take quite a few coats of red on top of the black to get the desired effect.
slightly closer up
So with these guys that brings my total battlesuit number painted to 7 (9 if you include broadsides)
Here is a little pic of my assembled battlesuits so far!!!
BATTLESUITS ASSSSSEMMMMBBBBLLEEE!!!!
Now there would only be 1 left to paint if i had stuck to my original army list of having 8 suits, however i have been getting hugely curb stomped lately especially by marines and have therefore bought 2 extra suits with Fusion blasters and plasma, they are especially grey at the moment and awaiting paint, however their time will come!!

Oooh, more pain tokens for me!
Looking good mate, you're putting me to shame with my mostly unpainted forces across the table from you!
Yes but you're putting me to shame by whipping my guys blue asses every time! the Fire Warrior recruitment center on Tros`san is starting to resemble the one in "Cannon fodder" once youve failed a few missions.

These guys are looking great, especially since you have added more colour. The hammerheads look real good, the battle suits with extra little marking are even better! And even the basic troops are looking really good. Keep it up!!
