Nothing from me this month, I'm afraid. It took long enough to assemble and prime, let alone all the large-area blending I've started doing.
Nothing from me this month, I'm afraid. It took long enough to assemble and prime, let alone all the large-area blending I've started doing.
I guess most participants have shown their stuff, so it's comment time:
@Sea.man: I love all you confrontation minis so far, but that one with a shotgun and a goblin standing on his shoulders is my favorite: it's a stunning paint job, blending on the clothing and metal is flawless. Keep it up!
@Easternheretic: good job all around. Pandora and the waldgeist stand out the most. And those red patterns on the bases really add to the eeriness of the Pandora crew.
@WhitwortStormbringer: Again, cool miniatures. Highlights on the jackets and dots on the skin contribute the most IMO to the cool factor. Blacklining could be a bit more subtle, though.
@Nightseer: Great paint job for both miniatures. The bases and all the verdigris are really impressive and give a lot of character to both models.
@GomezAddams: cool and scary. The freehand on the mask and highlights on the metals are the strong points here IMO. Hair on the chest also adds a lot of character (and scariness) to the model.
@Narcissus: cool conversions and nice paintjob. Those dirty, rusty armors are pretty well done. Militia with a pistol is my favorite of the lot: you did a top notch paint job on the skin and clothing.
@F2k: looking forward to seeing more of those (and painted!). Cool conversion, by the way.
@Little Joe: nice job, and it shows that you take time on the tiny details on your models (and those models seem pretty small, so that probably isn't an easy task).
@basher: nice characterful model: highlights on the yellow seem top notch. Looking forward to seeing your Seamus crew (although it's pretty bad that your stuff was stolen)
@Tancrede: as always, a top notch paint job. Highlights on the Eden mini's trenchcoat are nicely done and your bases add a nice little touch.
And here is a little WIP of my slowly progressing avatar Seamus (I guess he's about half way done now):

My Eden plog: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...75#post6517975
So another month roles on. I haven't look at anything so far but I might bust out the airbrush in a second and get the first layer of paint on my peacekeeper. I still can't quite believe that its month 4.
SEAM.MAN - I get what your saying about the time, the details clear to see, but I'm glad your still taking your time with them. I'd be far too tempted to batter them to get them finished but your doing the models justice so keep it up.
EASTERNHERETIC - Consider the Lilith idea stolen, theres far too many models in the freebooter catalogue that would transplant well into Malifaux. Looking forward to seeing what you do with her.
WHITWORT - Lovely as ever. You've painted quite a lot so far, any chance of a group shot?
ROTOKULAXE - Really like the stitched together, nice and vibrant. The NE teddy is particularly good, it has a nice life-like color scheme.
NIGHTSEER - I like how the steamborg blends into the base. I can kind of imagine him rising up from a pile of scrap and ambushing some poor sod. I really like Kaeris but the verdigris on the wings needs tidying up a little.
NARCISSUS - Welcome aboard bud, nice atmospheric figures. What are you planning for next month?
LITTLEJOE - Congrats on the St. Nik winThe trooper is a yet another reminder how lazy I've been with my relics stuff. I have the same kind of magnets on most of my malifaux figs just to give them a little bit more weight.
BASHER- Sorry to hear about your loss bud. Had that happen once before and its always pretty nasty. Any clues as to who did it?
TANCREDE - Lovely stuff yet again. Are you planning to get the Resistance crew? Been chewing them for next years tale.
And thats the lot - congrats everyone for making it past the half way point (I'm actually quite surprised how many people are still in given that most tales have had a fair bit of drop off by the mid way point). Of course that then begs the question... has anyone started making plans for seasons 2 of TOSP's?
Personally I've been looking at the new resistance faction for Eden, Aleph for Infinity, maybe some scibor dwarves, or a steam punk rasputina gang using Freebooter models. So many ideas, so little time...

Thanks for comments, guys !
@Rokotulkax : nice Seamus !
Reminds me of mister Hyde in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemens ! Hope to see the finished model soon...
@GomezAddams :
I will certainly paint the Resistance faction, as I want to play the boardgame (Escape) with real minis. So you can expect some resistants and drones in a near future ! ^^
And I'm painting old minis for old GW boardgames (Advanced Space Crusade and Space Hulk V1), as I'm currently in a boardgame/nostalgia mood...

Well looks like we have relatively few entries this month, so here goes with comments:
@sea.man: Wellsir, not sure what to say. As with previous months, these are awesome minis and you've definitely done them justice. Don't know what other praise I can give, but they really look great.
@easternheretic: Those waldegeist are pretty cool - they remind me of the scrunt from M. Knight Shamalan's "Lady In The Water" (maybe not so great a move, but I thought those were cool monsters). Freehand on the other bases is cool, too.
@Rotokultaxe: Lovely undead dog you've got there, and the stitched together reminds me of Mr. Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Evil teddy is absolutely terrifying.
@NightseeR: the verdigris is excellent (as on all of your minis for this tale!). Nice group shot at the end, there - the bases really tie them all together.
@GomezAddams: hairy belly turned out quite well! That's an effect I've never had any success with, how'd you go about doing it?
@Narcissus: still haven't been able to find any players for Death Squads, but I've read the rules and it does look like a blast to play. What did you use for the heads (other than the Empire plastics, that is) - are the cloth masks just GS?
@LittleJoe: I'd say you've definitely got the "sac skin" down pat. I really like the Britanans, but I'm a fan of your blue color scheme over the "offical" red scheme.
@basher: Wow, sorry to here about that. Runnig off with someone else's minis is a pretty pathetic move, especially a group as characterful and well-done as your Cutlass orcs. Looking forward to seeing your Malifaux work, though.
@tancrede: Excellent work on the Helldorado minis, as always of course. I really like this month's entry for Eden, though - reminiscent of the movie Stalker to me.
And I guess that's everyone, so responses:
Thanks! They're quar from Zombiesmith Games - they're a load of fun to paint and the game (at least the one I play, there's another ruleset for larger battles) is fast-paced and fun.
Haha, well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like your aforementioned blue Britanans! I ended up being kind of boring and just going with standard colors from the background fluff on these guys (and the Crusaders from month 1, for that matter). I may do some specialist/veteran squads at some point down the line and spice up the uniforms a bit, though.
Yeah, particularly on the rifles is where the blacklining seems a tad too conspicuous. Not sure if I have the steady hand to fix that, but I might give it a shot. Worst thing that happens is I have to repaint a small part of one mini. Glad to have an extra set of eyes!
I think my body count is at 27 quar for this tale so far (counting the 6 Crusaders that I jumped the gun and meant to paint for month one but finished early).
I have 8 more quar planned for this tale to finish between December and January, so I was thinking of waiting until the end for a group shot. However, I'd be happy to snap a quick photo if you want to see what's done so far.
I'd love to pick up either some World of Twilight miniatures, or some Relics Britanans (same guys as Little Joe), although we'll have to wait and see what kind of money I have to spend on figures when round two pops up. If I can't afford anything new, I'll probably fall back on my enormous backlog of Mordheim and Lord of the Rings SBG minis that need paint, or continue with more quar.
I also recently got Warhammer Historical's Gladiator game (hurray for 50% off sale!), and would love to pick up some gladiators, which I suppose would fit in a Tale of Skirmish Game Painters.
WHITWORT - Hang onto the pictures then. Might as well wait till the whole lots finished
PM inbound![]()

Right. Comments!
sea.man@ Your attention to detail is what really makes those models pop. I really like the paint job on the poofy sleeves and his shotgun barrel discolouration due to heat, for the guy on the left. Nice!
Whitwort Stormbringer@ Yay! More of these fellows. The coats on the 2 guys look ace.
Rotokultaxe@ Nice canine remains there. The yellow stitched together looks particularly disturbing. I love your toy box you made for the NE teddy. The paint job onit is is great too! Those scratches are a very nice touch. How did you do for the Rotten Harvest contest?
NightseeR@ The verdigris on your stemborg and Kearis looks very nice. The bases on both on them look fantastic. Where did you get them? I wouldn't mind basing my Leveticus crew with that.
GomezAddams@ Gomez, that executioner looks really creepy. The chest and tummy hair is also a very nice touch. That extra white mask on his mask really sets the tone. Nice bases too. Where did you get that?
Narcissus@ The glowing orange eyes on your renegades look very eerie. Nice job. What head did you use for that last guy?
Little Joe@ The base looks really nice. Is that a snail shell or a dog **** on the base? Either way, it really is a nice touch along with the bone. The puppet looking fellow is nice too. The paint job for his facial texture is very good. Actually looks like clothe!
robscott5598@ Squigs! Got to love squigs. I always liked the red scheme on squigs and these look good.
basher@ Is that a GW ork? Never seen one in a navel coat before. Nice paint job too.
tancrede@ Nice! I love the purple on that guy in the center. His banner is very very nice as well! Very nice smooth gradient. Inspirational.
And replies.
Thanks! I actually wanted to follow the Wyrd bright paint job for the Waldgeist, but decided not to highlight them to the same bight level. I'm glad I did that, as the darker broody colours seem to work well.
Very true, with the limited number of sculpts by Wyrd, I currently got the steam punk faries, bad fairy, raven and the wing chaos demon to proxy as more of Lilith's Nephelim from tot to mature. I'll post pics once done of course.
Too true.... *sigh*
Thanks! I'm rather please with how they turned out.
I actually really enjoyed that movie and never quite understood why it was so badly panned by the majority of those who saw it. The only thing that I did agree with the majority was that his taking of the role of the "future inspiration" was a bit in bad taste.
I promised a step by step on the base free hand for Gomez, and I'll get around to it for one of this months for WIP.
Time to get back to next months contribution. So little time... I hate the holidays because I'm out of leave and end up taking up the slack for those who are on leave.
Cheers!

Alright, commenting time.
@sea.man: Wonderful job on those..um...things. What are they supposed to be? Some sort of ogres?
@easternheretic: WALDGEISTS! Gotta love those creaturesNice paintjob on the others too, I really like your painting style. Lilith avatar will be sexy...real sexy.
@Whitwort Stormbringer: Cute things again
@Rotokultaxe: That toybox is awesome! Where did you get the little puppets? Also, aSeamus will be great when he'll be done, how did you achieve that skintone?
@GomezAddams Great job on the Executioner, the hood is pretty cool with the black'n'white scheme.
@Narcissus: Welcome to the Tale! The OSL and weathering is ace on those renegades!
@f2k: Paint it!!! :P Nice idea, can't wait to see the finished version.
@Little Joe: Cool puppets! AND, I'm looking forward to see your Raspy crew.
@robscott5598: Those squigs rock!
@basher: Wow, an orc pirate! Well executed paintjob on that guy. Did you get it from Black Scorpion? It's a pity that the others got stolen
@tancrede: Great job as usual, Mark is one of the best looking Eden minis...can we get a group shot?
And some replies:
Wow, thanks! Well, she's the one that I like most of the crew so far...
Thanks! As you can see, the base rim is painted black in the group shot - just forgot to take a pic of the finished thing alone.
Thanks! Seems like that almost everyone likes the verdigris thing - tho some say that I might overdo it a bit...naaaah, I like my minis dirty
Oh how I'd love if he could actually ambush someone in the game...OR actually live for long enough to kill something...About Kaeris' wings, I was in a hurry to finish her for Games Day, so I might go back and try to fix some mistakes there.
Thanks!
Thanks, and it's not the endI still have 2 gunsmiths, 3(4) fire gamin, the Steampunk Dorothy and Iggy (when he gets released) to do for the crew...then it will be kinda finished (alright, I'll still have to get some Large Steampunk Arachnids, Ramos avatar [gonna be converted from Ramos and a Necron Tomb Spider], some Soulstone Miners...meh, my wallet screams for mercy!)
Thanks! I got the Steamborg's base from Micro Art Studio, and Kaeris' base is homemade, I think it turned out pretty nice. I also made bases for the Fire Gamins and Gunsmiths.
Now, about December. I might have to Joker this month, since SWTOR comes out...alright, I'll try to get some time to do either the Gunsmiths or something ALEPH for Infinity...

Replies:
Thanks for all of the comments. I have had a lot of fun building and converting these guys. Best part of skirmish games is the time you can put into individualizing models.
Whitwort-the heads are a mix of empire flagellants, chaos marauders, cadian, and others. The hooded heads are mostly catachan heads, shaved down and filed flat, then the hood is made from greenstuff. I hope you find some people to play DS with. I need to find some local people to play too.
Eastern heretic-the head on the servitor is either space marine commander or chaos space marine lord in terminator armour. Not sure.
GomezAddams-Next month I have a sergeant (based on nurgle lord), commander (based on sorcerer), apostate preacher (based on necromancer), death guard, and ogryn (based on rat ogre). I guess I may as well add some WIP pictures of the conversions here too.
Paint job is about half way done.
Comments that I missed:
rotocultaxe-Avatar seamus looks exciting. A very imposing model. The base makes him look like he just broke something big. I might have to get that model just to paint. Good job on the skin tones.
tancrede-those models are amazing. I love the guy in the hoodie and faded jeans especially. Really, a very realistic post apocalyptic warrior. Really cool model and paint job.

yes it's was a cutlass orc
time for a wip

@Narcissus : very nice conversion work on those nurgle followers, and solid paintjob too. Hope to see more soon.
Here are the latest job done :
For Eden, here is sister Yliss, now done. Not my favorite mini, but decent paintjob (I hope so ! ^^) :
As requested by NightSeer, here's a group shot of my Convoy as it stands now :
One thing is really sure, I really love the post-apo look of the Eden minis !
And last, but I hope not least, here are 3 more finished minis for Helldorado :

NIGHTSEER - Cheers bud. Have you checked the sphere wars forum recently...When you do, congrats
Narcissus - I think I'm going to have to pick up that nurgle lord at some point. Everyone seems to convert him into something miles better then he was originally
BASHER - Lovely bright stuff, like it.
TANCREDE - I agree, the sister isn't a great fig. Theres something off about the pose that doesn't sit comfortably. The assembled convoy gang looks awesome though.
Update from me, mainly because I'm quite chuffed at my mad photoshop skills that took me far FAR too long.
And I've just noticed that its Anima not Anime.. GAH![]()

That is one nice looking model Gomez, It is a pity that I already have the Wyrd Misaki model in my collection, or I would have gone off and gotten one of these.
Nice job on the paint job. Looks good so far.
Have fun using Misaki, she is a real beast in combat. I love the 0 action wind to extend her melee to 6", then hitting the opponent 3 times since she is a melee expert.![]()

I've tended to be the reverse with the models - if I find a model I quite like, I'll paint it and then worry about where its going to fit inIts how I've gotten away with painting up a dreamer without actually having any neverborn
I'll take a look at her rules tonight though I think.
I wouldn't recommend the model really - the sword is huge and wafer thin, as are those ankles which bend with the slightest bit of pressure. Its lovely, just a bit risky for regular gaming so I'll have my eyes peeled for a replacement in the new year.
Another minor update - quite proud of the face so what the hell

Better late than never eh? ;P
Tale of the Skirmish Painters 2011/2012
Month 4:
Well it's a little late, but here's my work for November. Sonnia Criid and her witch hunters.
Painting:
Undercoated black, and to be honest I can't remember everything I used. I wanted to keep them quite muted and dull though. So the lighter cloth is dehneb stone with a devlan mud wash, and assorted browns for the rest.
The totem I basecoated white and did the blue flames getting darker to the edges, and the bones are bleached bone highlighted white.
I've gloss varnished them too, as I want the protection, but when I get a new can of matte I'll be hitting them with that too.
Highs and Lows: Only highs. Wyrd do some lovely minis IMHO.
The witch hunters:
Everything so far:
Next month: I've got some guild guard and an austringer on the pots at the moment, although with the holidays I may not get much done.
WIPs are looking really good for this month so far!
As usual, I pretty much sat down and painted everything in one sitting so I'm afraid I don't have any WIPs to show, but I'll have some nice new painted minis come the new year.
@Narcissus: love what you've done with the Nurgle Lord, I'm a huge fan of Nurgle followers and have played them in every GW system. I don't play a lot of GW beyond Mordheim anymore, but I'd really love to get that model and find a way to use him.
@basher: I like the vibrant colors you're using on Seamus so far, I think they fit well and it gives an air of showmanship. Can't wait to see him and the little leprechaun finished.
@Gomez: love the model selection for Keito (although the one sleeve is maybe a tad over-the-top length, but the model is a lovely one), she looks to be turning out very nicely so far. I can see where the model would be quite delicate, though - maybe not ideal for the rough and tumble of regular gaming. Edna's skin looks great so far.
@perplexiti: nice witch hunters, I'm a fan of the diminutive three in the middle. They remind me of the conversions I did for my Mordheim Carnival of Chaos warband.

Right. Combination of being terribly busy, getting a new job, the holidays, and now being sick means that I'm out. I'll have to transfer my little project over to its own thread when I can pick up a brush again.
Thanks guys - keep up the good work!
