    The Wraithwing!(New Necrons)

    40K Army: Necrons
Since the new shiny 'dex has been out I've spent a lot of time making lists. I have made about 20? lists(wraithwing, scarab spam, monstrous creatures,terrain/table controll, mechrons, Blasts/Gun arks, monoliths, Shooty, my official shooty necron list, foot lists). Generally all kinds of! I havent playtested much yet but I think i do like how most of them sound. Today im gonna share one of the most fun and fluffy lists i created.. The Wraithwing!! (Yep thats right, spam Wraiths!) I want you guys to tell me what you think, help me make it better or just criticize, whatever!

    Imotekh The Stormlord-225pts

    Lance/Chrono Court(4 Eldritch lances(1Pulse),1Chrono)-200pts

    5xWarriors-65pts
    10xWarriors-130pts

Ghost Ark-115(Crypteks jump in with Imotekh)
Ghost Ark-115(5 Man warrior squad in it, supports the footslogging 10 man squad)

    Annihilation Barge-90
    Annihilation Barge-90

    Now the good part:

    6xWraiths(2Whip Coils,2Particle pistols)-240pts
    6xWraiths(2Whip Coils,2Particle pistols)-240pts
    6xWraiths(2Whip Coils,2Particle pistols)-240pts

    Total-1750pts (1750 is the cap)

P.S. In my mind it looks all so great and fun! I do have some AT(Barges,Crypteks,Imotekh) and some light shooting(Arks/warriors) And my assault is beast(while they are protected by Imotekh/Pulse NightFighting)! Im playtesting this list on Saturday so I'll let you know how it rolls.

slight problem with this list, you have 4 fast attack units, other than that, looks prity fun to play.

Drop a whip coil each for awound allocation tricks(3 coils is usually enough). With those points, buy a third heavy destroyer. Imothek needs to go to the court to 1- soak up wounds.2-reroll to keep the storm around with chronometron.

Oh indeed, forgot Heavy D's are now Fast Attack! So what do you think I should trade the Heavy D's for? Annihilation barge? Scarabs? Flayed Ones? Oh oh I know! Deathmarks!!! ...
I guess an Annihilation Barge is the best answer but then im 1720 points instead of 1750. What do you guys think?

drop the heavy destroyers for a barge and another lance cryptek, any extra firepower helps.

Cant buy more crypteks with only one HQ.. And I'm afraid I wouldn't like to invest in a second one. But sure, more firepower helps-barges?

Or I could remove the 3 whip coils madival mentioned to get 10 Scarab bases.. For more heavy AT.

*Damn forgot Scarabs are Fast Attack too -.-'

Annihilation Barges - a real bargain. They may have Ap- but they can give infantry a battering and aren't too shabby at knocking around light tanks either...
Another option is obviously use Nemesor Zandrekh... he can/will combo well with a number of units in this army.

While Zahndrekh is pretty usefull, shifty and has a lot of game-turning abilities I don't think he's got a place in a Wraithwing list. If you think of the opposite I would like to hear what you have to say.
Annihilation Barges is what I think I'll use.. But I need 30 more points to field a couple. And I just can't see what I should trim/drop.

Note: Im missing 30 points after I took out 1 Whip Coil by each Wraith squad, so I don't think I can make those squads any less powerful. After all, its a Wraithwing list!

    Re: The Wraithwing!(New Necrons)

Back, after last night's game which turned out to be pretty delightfull. After some final alternations(After realising Heavy Destroyers were FA) I played a game versus a Purifiers Grey Knights list. The game was Spearhead/Annihilation and it ended arround Turn 4 when i succesfuly removed his last unit(Crowe). So the Final Score was-Grey Knights:Tabled. -Necrons: 1 unit of wraiths dead. I must say this list was not only pretty powerful but also very fun to play(<3 Wraiths <3) and Nightfighting helped a GREAT lot(Ha-ha Psyfleman!) So Here's my list after the last alternations(I'll update the first post as well)

    Imotekh The Stormlord-225pts
Royal Court(3HoD with one Solar Pulse, 1 Chronometron guy)-165pts

    5 Warriors-65 pts
    10 Warriors-130pts

    2 Ghost Arks-230pts

    2 Annihilation Barges-180pts

    6 Wraiths(3 Whip Coils,2 pistols)-250pts
    6 Wraiths(3 Whip Coils,2 pistols)-250pts
    6 Wraiths(3 Whip Coils,2 pistols)-250pts

I'm surprised to managed to out-combat the purifiers considering they get to flame-zap you first, they get armour saves against 80% of your wounds and all their weapons will ID the wraiths. Was it a matter of outmaneuvering the purifiers so you could bring several wraiths against 1 squad, and repeat?

He had 2 squads of 5 and one of 6 (after shooting down their transports I destroyed them) and one squad of 10 in a stormraven(with a librarian with a flamer of Initiative test)
which i wrecked and forced a pinning test(which he unfortunately lost) and then assaulted them to death. After hitting with 6 wraiths he will rarely have any other things to hit back. and when they do you have ur allocation tricks and a 3+ invo save . Plus, if they want to activate force swords they will have str 4, resulting in very few saves that can be saved with that 3++

glad to hear it worked out.

as suggested earlier , adding those extra coils and guns in doesnt help with allocation, id be tempted to take 2 coils, 2 pistols and 2 naked per unit, so you have 3 groups equal in size to split wounds between them.

would those points then give you some points to bulk out the 5 warriors to 10?

Very very interesting - thanks for sharing Necr0n

I am a massive fan of the new Wraiths - in fact I am a massive fan of all the old entries with their new 5th edition rules (yes even Flayed ones). A Wraith wing sounds fun to me but alas I only have 10 Wraiths.

In fact in my opinion 3 whip coils in a 6-man squad is a minimum. You don't want anyone hitting before you. That's why the wraiths are good as a unit, because they strike first. Also the pistols are both shooting and give you an extra attack to play with ^_^

I think wraiths would benefit a whole lot more from the Destroyer Lord in the unit.

And what's everyone's facination with the annihilation barges?? am i the only one who's had it fail in every game I put it in?
    1. Necrons - 4,000 pts
    2. Grey Knights - 3,900 pts
    3. Ultramarines - 3,800 pts

Well if you dont focus LR's it's great for popping vehicles and has great Anti-Infantry potential

I am not sure whether pistols give you an extra attack in combat. You only get that with 2 close combat weapons, and the codex does not specify what weapons the wraith have - so I think this is a grey area for me that needs clarifying as it is unusual not to have it listed out.

    Re: The Wraithwing!(New Necrons)

the only issue i see with the destroyer lord + wraithes is that you loose a great tool that the wraithes use. the ability to ignore terrain.

    you ignore difficult, dangerous..impassible..
litrally , it ignores a mechanic of the game , which is amazing. nothing can hide behind a building anymore.

so adding the d.lord means you have to avoid terrain, as hes jump infantry.

he also cannot give the wraithes RP , which is mainly the reason to take him, so the unit hes in are more resiliant.

but saying that he does bring very fun stuff to the party. a mindshackle lord with a sythe will be hitting before most units because of the whipcoils.
and when the opponent does swing, he has the potential of failing a ld test and hitting his own unit.

i think it depends greatly on the wraithes role in your army. will they be hunting through terrain , keeping out of line of sight with terrain before assaulting through it ..etc

or will you run straight up the middle , in the open , and hit hard that way.

Well I think they have rending weapons, thus they do have a close combat weapon. Pistols give you an extra attack if you're wielding a close combat weapon ,so you get an extra attack. Am I missing something?
