40k modular 2 story building WIP

Hey guys I am new to Warseer (I have posted this on Dakka)but this is something I'm chipping away at in my studio between work. (I'm a graphic/web design) I wanted to create an urban board which included many buildings that your units can easily access and move about in making it so they are not just shooting and assaulting building to building but in addition within buildings. The closed off room will be turned into elevator doors on both floors. I will more than likely keep it at two floors however being modular I would just have to cut more floors in order to build it up more. Let me know what you think, it is still in its rough stages and even the painted one may get reprimed and more detail added.

I'm hoping that if I make some like broken windows with some sort of packaging plastic (towards the end) it'll kinda fix it, I really just wanted the first floor to not only be accessible from the door but rather from all sides kinda? cause in game it would be epic to have nids flying through windows and stuff at your....IG(?) either way



the windows here are very tall and wide so I kinda wanted to make it along those lines. this was just a mess about effort to get used to cutting and measuring foam core and seeing how it acts with things and how to shape it and what kinda of things i could do to it (second floor wall breach and board over is a nice touch)

I'm currently working on the roof, otherwise its ready to be primed. it is currently 8.5inches by 6.5 inches and i'd like to base it on a 1ft x 1ft base, if anyone has any suggestions they would be appreicated.

I really like the crisp angles you're getting on those buildings. I wish I could cut foamcore like you.
I also really like that you're putting furniture inside- really makes it feel like a proper building instead of a box for your game table.

One suggestion- the way you are painting these. Are they meant to be burned out or just derelict?
If burned, more black and fire scorching, with some burnt tinder inside would look good.
If derelict, paint the interior walls/ floors a different colour. You can then add water /rust damage with little streaks of shader or paint wash.

I too once could not cut foam core worth a damn, here is the secret and it works I promise:

1 brand new exacto blade (ur knife needs to be super sharp)
1 T-square or ruler

when u cut, cut along the ruler. the first time u cut down the line, only cut the top layer of paper, the next time u go over it you want to go a bit deeper and cut through the foam and the third cut u want to get through the last piece of paper. By doing 2-3 cuts like this you'll always have clean edges. thats really all there is to it!

just take your time and don't rush, the more you try to rush it the worse it comes out, also get some tiny fabric pins to pin your building together, I will make a video tutorial series on this stuff once our website/blog/youtube is all set up

nice building. I like that it actually looks like it used to be used for something, a lot of peoples terrain seems like it was built as a ruin

Sorry for the lack of picture updates recently, pictures will have to wait until after the holidays. right now i've got it base coated and highlighted and im adding some borken glass, I really need a name for the store front thing, if anyone would like to throw an idea my way it would be appreciated, I am a graphic designer by profession so i'll be able to whip up some propaganda posters and such.

Very nice terrain dude, love the interior details. I have to echo =Angel= about deliniating the grey with a touch of colour here & there. Maybe the interior floors could be given a wash of a dark green, brown or blue? Right now because the floor and walls are the same colour & texture it is hard to see many of the very nice details you've inclused.

part of how I paint and all is that I do the super detailed stuff last so right last night I put in the "glass" and today I'm going to be playing a game with it. either way I love all the support I will have you tube up and i'll be making tutorial videos and what not soon

Hey warseererers..(warseeri? warseers?) quick update:

This building got a play test before christmas! I found that the overhead pipes are a nightmare as is the debris on the floors..as are the window panes (no picture yet) overall this building is more for show I suppose...the first game I played with my IG and it was a nightmare trying to fit a heavy weapon into the first or second floor, than nids running through the building was a pain...however...space marines were epic! so lesson is, this building is meant for smaller squads!

currently it resides at my buddies house so I wont be getting it back till sundayish =\

In other news I'm going to be starting either a youtube channel for my project as well as posting updates on this forum as well as on a website/blog type dealie, the main question here i guess is: Would you go on a terrian blog/site if it included tutorials/techniques? Later on presuming it got bigger I would open it up to be a dedicated terrain forum or some such community affair...opinions?
