Hey all,
So this is an idea I've been kicking around for a while. Lots of people I know have impressive terrain collections, but these rarely have that interactive of a role outside of LOS and movement in most wargames I've encountered. This army list is designed to allow someone to use those hedges no-one wants to utilize, or that copse of trees everyone keeps at the back of the box, in an actual army.
Plus, the other goal of this list is to allow someone to scratchbuild their own army, using easily-available materials (I'll explain craft/concept ideas below), and highly encourages cool dioramas and unique armies (You can build everything from a Bear Flood to a completely immobile forest with a couple Stonehenge-esque rock circles).
So a couple modelling ideas:
---Razorthorn: Basically identical to building normal hedges (Fold a green brillo pad in half, paint and flock), with more elaborate stuff like small rows of bushes or a self-contained garden possible as well.
---Swamp Tangle: I was thinking a quick-and-dirty method for this would be to paint and flock little blobs of Spanish Moss, but for the more ambitious out there you could make twisted weeping-willow trees with lots of creepers and vines.
---Wyrdstone: I was thinking of these being fairly Stonehengey, but you could also do anything that seems appropriate, like a Roman Pillar with a glowing crystal mounted on top.
---Wolf Pack: It's fairly easy to find a cheap pack of rubber or plastic toy dogs at like a Dollar Store, and a quick grey-drybrush-white coat and you're ready to go.
---Wolf Den: Left purposefully vague so you could make anything from a cave to a fallen tree or Pride Rock affair.
---Bear Swarm: Quite a bit harder to find easily available than the wolves, but such a fun idea I couldn't pass it up (Plus kudos to those out there who get the in-joke).
---Crow Flock: Dollar Stores carry little bags of 100 plastic white doves in their bridal section; A bag or two will get you several regiments of the crows after a quick paint job.
---Wellspring: Again, vague here because you could make anything from a natural pool to an overgrown marble fountain.
---Thornroot: Was just thinking a really big root. You could use a natural root, or model something out of craft foam for this.
---Spirits of Nature Wrath/Mercy: Concept-wise, think thisfrom Fantasia 2000 for the Mercy spirit, and an angry brown/fall one for the Wrath version.
Game Notes:
---Not sure on the balance vs shooty and War-machine-heavy armies, especially since so much moves so slowly and most ranges are 12"-24"
---Trying to figure if I should add a non-offensive tree unit, one that's super-cheap and basiclaly designed to be a screen or not.
