    Re: Urgat's terrains and paperworks

So the orc idol is done, and I've printed it:

Call me a braggart if you want, but I think I've outdone myself on this one, the print looks awesome, even though my printer is crappy and doesn't render the details too well (so it's somewhat blurry unfortunately, even though the PDF is 300dpi)..
Just one worry: I've scaled the trophy pile (you can see it on the left of the pic) around the weapons, might be that the banner behind them will be too big for the idol >< Well my hands hurt tonight, so I'll build it tomorrow and I'll see if I need to scale it down or not.

Been thinking, also, that banner I did turned out surprisingly well, I wonder if people would be interested in race-specific banner sets? I realize freehand must drive some people crazy, and they might welcome banners they'd just have to print and glue.

    Re: Urgat's terrains and paperworks

Well it's built, and it's pretty cool, if you allow me to say so :

    Thoughts?
As I feared (and as you can see), the trophy pile is too big. And all in all, I'm not sure it really adds anything interesting besides using ink... Besides it doesn't work the way I hoped it would, because of the shape of the idol, there's just too much of the (white) back that would show, it'd have to be folded in ways that would break the spears, etc etc, so in short, it's a shame, but it's going to have to go. I'll reuse that for something else where it'll fit better. Instead, I'm going to add carvings and paintings on the skull itself to liven it up a bit, since that was what the trophy pile was for.
Other than that, I'll make a change, I'll have the colors bleed a bit on the flaps, so there's no white area if you don't glue too accurately, this will also help hide the doted lines that mark where you should fold the flaps, because they show if you don't fold well (you can see them on the pic). I considered hiding them completely, but upon trying that, it appears in some place it'll be really hard to tell where you're supposed to fold, so I'll keep them.
Also, note for myself, when I make the instructions: start gluing the "face" to the "skull" BEFORE closing the back of the skull itself. It was really hard to put the face because of that, that's why there's a hole where the "nose" should be. Would have been much easier if I'd started from there.
Anyway, all in all, it turned out better than I could have hoped.
The colors are washed out because the sun enters my apartment directly, but I couldn't wait to post pics of it, I'll post better ones when the sun is a bit less intrusive (If I remember to do it). Well, you can tell because the colors are right in the post above.

As for the dwarf brewery, I've been thinking for a while, I couldn't figure out what to do. I could have done a plain brewery, like the one in warhammer online or the one from the old Grudge of Drong set. I also thought about making it some kind of tower, because, if for whatever reason the dwarfs have decided to build their breweries in the wild, they would at least want it to be defensible... But it was all boring, boring... And then it struck me, THE idea! Look forward to it, it's going to be cool and different (but VERY dwarfish).

    Re: Urgat's terrains and paperworks

Anyway, up until now, I've been doing things randomly, maybe it'd be a bit more fun if I asked you people what you want. So next is the dwarven brewery, not gonna change that, but I can start already with what will be after it.
Here's how I'm going to do it. I'm going to put a list of scenery categories (along with a couple examples) that people will vote for. Please vote for one category only, if you vote for more, I'll just ignore the post (sorry). This time, it'll be up until next friday (unless I forget, then it'll be up until I remember to stop it ). When that vote is over, I'll put a list of things that belong in this category, and you'll be able to vote for one of those things (again, any people voting for more than one choice will be ignored). That one will run until the dwarf brewery is done (this could last a while, be warned). When the next project is decided, i'll ignore all the previous results and start it all over again.
Voila. So, here's the category list:

    1) Natural scenery (sea shore, pine forest etc)
    2) Regular buildings (human houses, church etc)
    3) Arcanic monuments (herd stone, haunted manor etc)
    4) Legendary buildings (dwarf airship, flying tower etc)
    5) Siege works (orc fortress, human siege tower etc)

Voila. please keep in mind I want to sell these things, don't just vote "Legendary Buildings" just because you're curious to see how I'd make a dwarf airship, but don't care about getting one otherwise...

Whoa, the "finished" Idol is awesome ... *adds to To Buy Soon list*

Can't wait until I'm paid to splurge a bit on your Obelisks and that lovely Idol

Too bad about the trophy pile tough ... maybe it could be used as a stand alone piece ?

Now, to the voting part ...

I'd say Natural Scenery, specifically a Sea Shore or some other pieces that would combine with your (amazing !) River Set ...

Speakingn of which, I'm thinking about printing a couple more sections, the bends especially ... best piece of paper terrain I've ever paid/downloaded !

    Re: Urgat's terrains and paperworks

Ok, one vote for Natural scenery!
Right, second prototype is built (and well, I've found a new setting for my printer, it never occurred to me that photo quality wasn't the best setting, there is superior photo, d'huh! so yeah, it's better quality indeed), and it's flawless this time. It is indeed very easy to build when you know the proper order to glue things. Also, to make up for the removal of the trophy pile, I've made a variant:

So you'll get the two, the fire one, and the glowing green one.
I only have the instructions to do, but that will wait till Monday, I'm working tonight and I need a break.

The idol is now available for 2.50€ in the blogstore.
Saturday edit: ah well, I guess the voting wasn't a good idea, sorry Lorcryst, I'll keep doing as I did before.

These look great! I'd love to see some buildings (as buildings are the main terrain I'm missing ) and the Dwarven Brewery will be a good start. I look forward to it!

I'm not too sure about the brewery... As it is now, it is going to be quite big. Do you people think this would be a problem?

Big and good ? No problem ...

I have a couple of towers, 25 cms high, that came from printable terrain sites from ages past, and they're not "too big", they just look the part ... oh, and they're shorter than the latest ruined towers from GW

If the quality remains, size is no issue. Have you considered perhaps taking a leaf out of the Fortified Manor's book by making it multiple parts?

The brewery? Nope, unfortunately, I haven't had the time to work on it lately, I'm busy with non Warhammer-related works.

It's not open anymore, but it's the brewery anyway The basic structure is done in fact, but I don't have the time to finish it for now. Expect something quite more impressive than what i've done before though.
