felt exactly the same if the rest of the book brings out that sort of emotion in me I think it might be one of the best that Dan Abnett has ever wrote.....WOW

So I got this on Friday. I started reading it and thought it was a bit slow. The book starts with a funny time line thing (I.E -16.32.80) and works its way to 0.00

It does build pase though. Just got to the initial action and its probably the single most mass devistating moment action in the whole horus heresy. Makes up for the slow start

Just finished my copy today, couldn't put it down, it's very good.

It is indeed intended to be like an after action report, the timeline thhing actually works very well as you can count down to the action as you read, so you know when the big moment is coming and have to keep reading!

It does portray Guilliman very well, but the best bits for me were the insights into the Word Bearers, and more importantly their followers. You can see the beginnings of the Chaos forces as we know them today, which ties in nicely with his Gaunt's Ghost stuff, like Chaos military ranks etc.

Are there any tie ins with the BftA?

Not that I noticed. A lot of the book is from the UM perspective (who never knew about the Furious Abyss) but there's nothing that I can recall from the Word Bearer side either. It may be that we just didn't see the scene in which the conversation is "So where's our supership then?" "No idea." "Fine, start shooting the sun then.".
