Promising Gangers who died too soon!

You know how it is with Necromunda. You've had two or three games, rolled some advances and take a look at your gang roster.
By now you're probably going to spot some up-and-coming Gang champions, fighters who will no doubt do you proud one day. The sort with the right advances and skill that compliment the Ganger's statistics and weaponry perfectly.

But disaster! The Ganger's out of action and you roll a double 1 for the injury!
Suddenly the rising star has blacked out and you're left without your promising ganger.

This happened to me today. In my Escher gang, Savage Dominion, I had a lasgun and chainsword armed ganger with WS4, Ambush and 48 experience points get taken out (by a lasgun, irony strikes again) and unfortunately roll the dreaded double 1!
I know the WS doesn't match Ambush but she had a buddy who also had the same skill and the two were starting to look like the sort that'll become some of my most reliable fighters.

I bet the same has happened to many of us, so share your tales of promising gangers who fell way too early, let's hear them!

I lost both of my Armorers, one of whom also had Repairer and Inventor, in the last game I played with my Van Saar. A sad day.

Re: Promising Gangers who died too soon!

Not a ganger in my case but a similar story. After a few games in I spent some spare credits hiring a Bounty Hunter with high hopes of capturing some enemy gangers and taking some expensive or rare kit from them before ransoming them back or selling them on.

My opponent (In this case my son) got the first turn in, taking advantage of that mostly to move into position. I move with my Bounty Hunter dashing towards th enemy leader... and promptly got pot-shotted by a Juve on Overwatch that I hadn't spotted. With, of all things a standard issue Stub Gun. And went straight out of action. And as it subsequently turned out, was killed outright. All in the first turn of his first game.

A pretty uninspiring end to a fighter I had confidence of achieving something with.

Damn! Talk about terrible luck! Well on your part anyway, that Juve now has a story to tell!

Was fun though , to make matters worse the same Juve OOA'd my leader later that game too, she survived ultimately unscathed though.

The last two times I started out with Spyrer hunters, I lost my Orrus in the first game, both times to pistol shots fired by juves. This time around, he's steering well clear of them.

Whoa, another story of awesome Juves!? I wish my two were that good! One has shell shock and a blinded eye, the other has a head wound and wandered too close to the table edge in her last game!

Re: Promising Gangers who died too soon!

Not quite a death, but a parable of why planning things out is bad luck in Necromunda:

(Just to note: My group played four games per player to give each gang some personality and develop characters, then began the campaign and narrative)

My leader was meant to be a junior inquisitor hunting the leader of one of the other gangs (we use a different setting to the usual necromunda game) and as such I thought I'd better get him stuck in and earning those experience points. First game in, he got a chainsword to the head and spent the next game standing in a daze. His injury inevitably led to more injuries, in particular a spectacular scene in which he "forgot" to jump out of the way of a truck!

Whilst I have lobo chipped and since advanced his stats and skills and he is in fact now most awesome, it wasn't exactly the route I'd planned :P

    Edit:

Aye, this is true for me too! One of my juves has a leg injury caused by another of my juves' grenades!

I hate Juves. They fill me with a white hot rage (as you can appreciate.) My Spyrers now go out of their way to kill them.

Sounds like Juves either perform, or fail, spectacularly! What were you doing giving grenades to a juve anyway!?

I imagine I had a foolproof and brilliant plan at the time, but alas I can't recall

We always imagine we have a brilliant plan, that's when things go wrong!
I suppose a Juve with grenades could be pretty funny!

    I love juves.I truly do.
Kind of related - all but three members of my deleque gang 'the flock'where killed in the first game of a campaign.the guy in the shop couldn't believe what he was seeing and my opponent apologised out of embarrassment.

Re: Promising Gangers who died too soon!

I love juves. I had one who I used as a meatshield for my leader in my first game with a new gang. Well after he avoided being hurt, he took down 3 gangers and made my leader look quite bad! He was on his way to being my new leader then his lazpistol exploded in his face. He was never the same after that.

Well ive only played 2 games and none of my gangmembers has died yet but one who has stats for combat lost one of his eyes reducing his BS to 1.... (so not much of a loss I guess in hindsight)

I intend to equip him with frag grenades at a later stage to add some scattering fun to my games

Re: Promising Gangers who died too soon!

I had terrible losses today! I lost my leader and heavy, also one ganger but she was nothing special.
It's that heavy plasma gun I'll miss but at least my leader went down fighting. She went out of action after losing in close combat to the other gang's leader.
Things aren't looking too good for Savage Dominion right now, I may have to start a new gang!

Re: Promising Gangers who died too soon!

Thought I'd post two of my worst!

I had a Van Saar ganger. Excellent shot / kill ratio, rolled specialist as he progressed which meant I finally could use 2 plasma guns (leader had 1, and I'd captured one from an enemy with a bounty hunter in my first game)

Next game, first turn, friendly threw grenade, which scattered directly onto the guy. Didn't even get the chance to fire a shot!

Other one that springs to mind is an Escher leader who was blind in 1 eye, had old battle wounds, had twin chainswords, and got taken out by a juve, who only had a knife as my friend had forgotten to give it equipment before the battle.... worst dice rolls ever.
