Re: Solent 40,000 Challenge (1750), May 2012, Portsmouth

    The tournament points for a win, loss or a draw are as follows;
    Win = 3 points
    Draw = 1 point
    Lose = 0 points
Your score card will have slots to record results for the turn 5, 6 and 7. It is important that you record the results for EVERY applicable turn. So, at the end of turn 5, decide who has won the game, and continue to turn 6.
This means you mark the box for turn 5, 6 and 7 with a win, draw or loss, as appicable.

There is no rolling for random game length.
You do not roll for random game length

If you do not reach the end of any of the above turns then you will score zero for the remaining turns.
If you do not reach the end of turns 5, 6 or 7 then you mark these boxes with '0' or 'Loss'

At the end of the game record VP’s as dictated in the 40k rulebook.
    As page 300 BRB

This will give you three scores for every round, the sum of which will be your round score.
Add turns 5, 6 and 7 scores together (the sum of) which will be your score for the round

All of your round scores will decide overall placings. In the event of a draw VP’s will be used as a tie breaker.
Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 scores are added together (the sum of) and used to decide rankings and winners. In the event of a draw VP's will be used as a tie breaker.

You are the only person who has not understood the rules pack as is, apologies for the confusion though. Please take the time to read my blog, it does say that I am trying new ideas for this event before the 'serious' event in the summer.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

I like the idea alot I think you're onto something there However, I do think players whom don't finish all 7 turns will be unfairly penalised, especially as it might not even be their own fault (slow opponent, opponent with all footslogging army etc etc) However, will be interesting to see how it goes

It's a really good attempt at a unique system, that will cause more hassle than good!

    Hi Chunk,

It states in the rulespack that certain Forgeworld models are allowed from Imperial Armour Apocalypse 2, as I do not have access to this book would you mind listing for me the units that this allows to be used?

On the subject of timing out I think it is nonsense, last year I played horde Orks with over 140 models and never took longer than 2 hours to complete a game. Armies are not slow, players are.

    Thanks,

    Chris Cook

That does raise a good point, if you intend to use Forgeworld units then you must also have a copy of Imperial Armour Apocalype 2nd Ed. In the same was as you are expected to bring your own rulebook, codex, dice and tape measure. To summarise: no book, no Forgeworld!

Remember, these units must be suitably converted (judges decision) or the Forgeworld miniatures themselves.

    Imperial Guard:
    Taurus Squadron

    Space Marines:
    Contemptor Dreadnoughts (all variants)
    Siege Dreadnoughts
    Land Raider Achilles
    Caestus Assault Ram
    Lucius Pattern Dreadnought Drop Pod

    Imperial:
    Arvus Lighter
    Valkyrie Sky Talon transport
    Aquila Lander

    Orks:
    Big Sqiggoth
    Warkopta
    Grot Tank Mob
    Grot Mega-Tank

    Eldar:
    Firestorm
    Wraithseer
    Hornet Squadron

    Tyranids:
    Malanthrope
    Meiotic Spores
    Stone Crusher Carnifex

    Tau Empire:
    Piranha TX-42
    DX-6 Remora Drone Fighter
    Commander R'alai

    Necron:
    Tomb Stalker

    Dark Eldar:
    Reaper
    Raven
    Tantalus

    Chaos:
    Contemptor Dreadnought
    Giant Chaos Spawn
    Spined Chaos Beast
    Dreadclaw

I do not have the book to hand, this list may change later tonight.

Ah yes, how to catch a slow player...

Should any player at my events wish, they may have use of a chess clock and use Death Clock method. The game will be played as per the rules pack. In the event of not finishing turn 7, the player who has used the most time will lose the turn the game finished on, and all those after.

The clock will run from when a player has 'control' of the game. Control is defined as during the players turn, until such time as he is interupted (game effects, allocating saves et all). The interuption switches the clock to the other player until such time as the interuption is concluded. The clock can only be switched between players, never stopped.

A judge will be on hand to fully explain this method, rather than lengthy debates here. In no way are players forced to use this method, in fact I predict no demand for it. But I have the clocks, and I find the ticking intense...

I personally love this method, I heartily recommend it for a challenging mission!

    Again, apologies to Malchek.

A Warhammer Fantasy Battle tournament has been added, in the spirit of me trying out new ideas. Please check the first post for details.

This is a concept event in which I want to trial new ideas and collect information about both systems to improve later events. As such I ask you to keep an open mind, but fully understand that most players strongly disagree with what is presented.

Another Warhammer 40,000 Challenge will be held in July for 1500 points, using a standard rules pack.

Places are limited to 40 players, between both tournaments. Payment is the only way to secure a place.

Please read the rules pack for more details, and I hope you can attend! The WFB side does not have a rules pack as yet, and I open to suggestions as to what you would like.

Results will be submitted to RHQ, but points are dependant on number of players when the results are submitted.

So I am going to say it wont be max points, but apx 80% there of.

8The July challenge will be 40 players, 1500 points with 5 rounds. I have the dates of the 28th and 29th July booked in, and expect to have the rules pack out in March.
