    Imperial Glory- Your thoughts about....

    Greetings,

Just wrapped this book up. I like IG books better than SM books, and this one was entertaining. One thing I like about this book, is it doesn't feel the need to tie up all the loose ends in a neat little bow.

Anyway, this thread is for some fan speculation, therefore, Spoilers maybe in order!

    So, the discussion points are...

Corporal Blanks: Who do you think he was before the mind wipe?

Choppa's Totem: What do you think it was?

Feel free to add any other topics you want to discuss.

I wonder what happened to Trouble in the end. The scene where he accidently wounds his companion was rather emotional.

Choppa's totem is surely just another 'gubbinz' of the MekBoys: that is to say fearsomely potent tech dredged up from the deep genetic-psyche-legacy of the Orks. And also remarkably cool as a literal 'plot device'.

All the characters were remarkably memorable without being over the top in quirky-charm, it kept things...real, plausible even.

In other news, Richard Williams posted this up to his website:
An 'encyclopedic'-like account of the Battle of Highpoint

Though I don't have a huge amount to say on the book, I think it's worth putting right out there that it is one of my favourite books I'd read in 2011. It was a story told with an impressive degree of integrity and restraint, and I think the book was excellent because of it.

Cool. Thanks for pointing that out Xisor.

I love how in the 'Official" history it is stated as preliminary reconaissance, but in the book it is a very exciting scene involving Valykries and lifta-droppa bubbles.

I would also love to see some "official" discussion of the Ork counter-attack and how that developed.

To be honest, the more 'Richard Williams' we get, the better IMO. He did Liber Chaotica: Khorne before MvS took over for the other three. (And though MvS was tremendous, RW's bit was deeply cool too. More from both of them, if I were in charge.)

I did 'squee', I believe that's the right parlance, at the cameo given by the Relentless in story. Williams has shown an immensely personal grasp of 40k, IMO. Both Relentless and Mortal Fuel were engaging and varied stories. I really should pick up his Reiksguard at some point.

Seriously, three books in X years? What's with this slow-mo!?

I liked getting a proppa ork viewpoint story that was well done.

MWJ: You should check out (the start of) Headhunted by Steve Parker too. A very decent Deathwatch short story, but more importantly it has a really neat depiction of an Ork PoV in it. (Specifically: a mekboy.)

I really enjoyed this book too, the orks point of view was great and i like how the boss gave all the orks other names expect for himself because hes the boss and doesnt need a name to rember that, lol. The night battle scence was awesome too, the beards stole that whole scene for me, power lifters for the win!
