    Re: Gametable WIP

I wanted to keep the top of the tower flat to allow a nice place for snipers and such to set up; especially as I kept the other buildings relatively low to make the church stand out more. Snipers and church towers go together like peanut butter and jelly.
And yes, the door will get a small balcony, like on page 240 of the 5th edition rulebook. I was considering a flight of stairs at first, but I think it would just be hard to not look awkward and huge while still allowing model placement.

there will be plenty of roof space for a sniper or a squad of 5. You just need one ruined corner piece of floor, just to tie the damaged effect in. If I remember correctly, the Aquila is a 2x6 roof, so if you lose half of one tile, you've got plenty of floor left. A nice piece that goes well with the Aquila is the small bit of ruin you get in the box that comes with the SM statue.

Ah, I thought you meant an angled roof like on the lower section. The tower is only 3x2 though, so you've have 3 intact floor spaces and 1 broken one. And I have that bit of ruin from the Honoured Imperium set, I already noticed it is indeed the missing section from one of the broken panels. I intended to place it near the foot of the tower if it didn't get in the way of gameplay.

Made the quick mock-up. Obviously, the parts aren't glued yet, and it needs more floor sections inside the tower. What do you think?

    Re: Gametable WIP

As various people have been asking me for more information on how the table itself was constructed, I thought, might as well share it with everyone. Don't mind the mess.

The table with the Realm of Battle plates removed, so you can see the support frame.

The two supports in the width of the table carry most of the weight, and have been assembled in a T for extra strength and to prevent warping/sagging of the wood under the weigth of the Realm of Battle plates.

The side of the table. The╒╕shaped struts are made with two legs and a support, which are again for added strength and to prevent warping/sagging.

The supports in the length of the table are attached to the sides with bed hooks. These are to prevent warping/sagging in the length of the table. The small blocks attached to the bottom of the table top in this and the previous 2 pictures are used to guide the 4 segments of the table top into place on the support frame when assembling it.

And a close up of a corner. Here you can see that each of the 4 table top segments is made out of two pieces glued together. The lower piece is wider to create the inside lip for the board to rest on.

Looks like a real sturdy build! Is it possible to disassemble in order to move it?

Yup, disassembled and reassembled it when it was moved to my attic. And because it doesn't have a large plate for the table top, it can be carried up narrow stairways. To disassemble you just need to undo about 20 screws and pull it apart.

yeah, much better, the ruined parts line up nicely. Now one more thing I'd add, is a single ruined 'normal' sized city fight panel to the back side of the tower on ground level. Looking good all around

    Re: Gametable WIP

By ground level I assume you mean the empty corner at the base of the two ruined Shrine of the Aquila panel? If so, yeah, I intended to put some rubble there, but I need to glue the large panels in first. I also intend to put a ladder there to allow access to the tower, as the lower level is now entirely enclosed; it was to hard to put models there if I left it open, so I decided to close it. I imagine the doors are sealed/locked or something.
Or did you mean the actual ground level? As I do intend to have a small ~2x2 ruined wall on the right side at the edge of the tower, but couldn't include it in the mockup as it wouldn't stay upright by itself.

actual ground level, to define that there was building there at one time. A single ruined panel there would finish off the build nicely. Are you going to shingle the roof?

The plasticard used for the roof is texture.

Wanted to paint something in between, so a quick intermezzo:

Did the broken Aquila from the Honoured Imperium set. Took me about 15 minutes of airbrushing and drybrushing.

And while I was getting my area terrain on, I added this Citadel Wood:

As my board is pretty barren, I went with the petrified tree look. A lush forest would look out of place.

And of course, can't have a piece of 40k terrain without skulls!

It's a nice piece of kit; easy and quick to assemble and paint. I like the fact that the trees are removable, makes them very playable. I may just have to get a second set some time in the future. But I'm going to finish this current pile of terrain first.

Finished another piece over the weekend: the Blastscape. Sadly the low sun kind of drowns out the colours in the photos a little bit.

Nice bit of kit, even if it is a little less playable due to all the uneven surfaces and non-removable trees.

Yeah, but because they're at least hard plastic, they're not as bad as the Moonscape craters though. If you're not standing in the center of the crater of those...well, you're not standing.

    Re: Gametable WIP

Been a while since the last update; been painting up some of my 'Nids and of course the season holidays took their toll on hobby time. But, continuing with the game table:

I got a few pieces of leftover 6mm trespa plates from a friend who works at a company where the sell the stuff. This stuff is rocksolid and doesn't warp at all, so while expensive if you would have to buy it, it's ideal stuff to use as a base.

Bevelled the edges with a dremel and glued some modelling sand to add texture for drybrushing it later.

And added some textured plasticard to the manifactorium floor. More details like some computer consoles and such will be added later, but for ease of painting it's empty for now.
