    Amazoness Army

I plan on scratch-building and converting myself an Amazoness army (maybe waiting until the "Contingents" expansion has been released) and was wondering which official army rules would best match the Amazonesses. I don't want to use Lizardmen, because I already have a Lizardmen Army. My next thought was Wood Elves, but then I couldn't think of anything to match the Dryads, Kin or Treemen in Amazoness fluff.

So what army rules would you suggest and why?

Don't use them if you can't match them up.
Treekin and Treemen could be some sort of lizard, though.

I would go with wood elves

as far as forest spirits are concerned I suggest either not using them or use them as giant gorillas.

Bare with me a moment. If you can find some cool, treekin sized gorilla mini's and a treeman sized king kong, well, clearly that would be awesome.

Alternatively I'm fairly sure there is such a thing as jungle dryads . . .

Yeah, jungle dryads, jungle trolls, use some saurus and kroxes, certainly there's altearnatives. Kingkong as a treeman would totally rock, too. I know there's a very large gorilla mini, but I don't remember who sells this one (Reaper I think, but not sure).

Btw, woof elves are all the bark

Look at reaper minis for gorillas and amazons. Also rakham minis used to have a line if kelts with lots of female warriors. They are my wardancers.

    Re: Amazoness Army

Ok, first off, it's Amazons, not Amazonesses. It's petty and a little rude to bring it up, yes, but oh well.

I'd say the best fit for Amazons would be to use custom rules, but seeing as you requested official rules, I would agree with Wood Elves for the best bet, they have a number of units that would transfer well. The Amazons themselves for Elven units, Terradons for Warhawks or Eagles, a King Kong-esque gorilla for a Treeman or Treekin, Culchan (think ostriches) are mentioned as being used as mounts by the Amazons occasionally, so they could work for Wild Riders, or even Cold Ones (though I'd recommend against them, as they hate warm-blooded creatures). For Dryads, the first thing I thought of was enslaved Saurus (Other than Initiative, the stats are very close, and Forest Spirit can stand in for Scaly Skin). And most importantly, Wood Elves have a bunch of magic bows and arrows that can stand in for Bolters and such .

And on the topic of Bolters, how you wanted to represent some of the Old Ones technology would be a good question. Magic Items are the obvious choice, though you could go more unconventional and use some kind of large construct that could stand in for Treekin or Treemen (though I prefer Kong - I may steal the idea ), or some kind of floating barge crewed by Amazon Warriors for a Dragon, complete with flamethrower. I'd try to make them look unique if you can, more like the palanquins of the Slann or the Engines of the Gods, though you could always be lazy and use 40k bits. Try not to overdo it on the tech either way - the focus of the army should be on the Amazons, not their cool toys.

Hope this helps, I've considered making an Amazon army before, I may steal some of the ideas here if I ever do.

Use High Elves, they would be very Wonder Woman Amazons. And they have all the good unit choices.

haha oh Op, I think we are kind of on the same boat.
I would be using my amazons as another skink skirmisher regiment tough, with the pirestess as a skink shaman... but if I ever get to expand it then Maybe I would go with wood elves or high elves hehehe.

Beastmen could work as well since they are lightly armoured skirmishers.

But you're not forced to make a conversion for every choice in the army. If you can't come up with something for treemen or treekin that would look good then just don't take any.

Okay, thanks for the tips. I was wondering if the individual reptiles from the Lizardmen Jungle Swarm could be big enough to occupy a 20mm base? If so, they could be the Dryads. I do like the idea of having a giant gorilla as a treeman, but the problem I have with that is that my local gaming shop is a GW, so I'd have to scratchbuild / convert one. At first I thought of using the Ghorgon / Cygor as a start, but it's too big for the Treeman's base.

If the predicted Araby Harem Guard or DE Witch Elves look nice, this fantasy could become a reality, but until then I'm hesitant to start this army.

Thanks again for the help, and I'll be sure to start a plog on here if I go ahead with the army!

Dryads have 25mm bases, and those lizards are tiny to represent S4 T4 A2 models.

If I was gunna convert a giant gorilla I would begin with a stonehorn but that may be a little too big.

What about Yeti? they could make nice treekin and if you stick one on a bigger base standing on a rock it could be a treeman.

    Re: Amazoness Army

Well, well, well, I would suggest the inofficial Amazon Army book (google it, it´s a free pdf) because this ARE the most accurate rules for the Amazons. They even give you some cool spec. chars. As a matter of fact, i´v build a complet 3500 points Amazon Army, which is currently in its painting phase.

    Models I used were :

Wood Elve Archers, Guardians and War Dancers
    old Skelletonmodells (6th Edition)
    plastic Deamonettes
Witch Elves and Dark Elve sorceress
    Lizardmen Cold One Riders
    Dark Eldar Hagashin
Repentias from the Sisters of Battle

and some Cheeta and Lioness Models for children to play

Converted everything into Lustria and Na´vi style with Green stuff, was realy easy. would you like to see some Photos?

ps. sorry for my wrong english, I´m not a native speaker, I´m from Austria....

I would actually recommend empire for the maidens of the old ones.
The amazons swords (blades of the old ones) can shoot frickin laserbeams (handgunners), they use spears (spearmen), have mystical technology (the wizardmobiles) and most other things can be explained as well (lizardscale armour for platemail to make the heavy armoured stuff which fortunately enough isn't most units).

Need a griffon? coatl! want knights? dinoriders! greatswords? templeguard! flaggelants? Crazed slaves!
Everything works and the amazons remain human.

I was about to say Empire too, but the dwarf was faster (the irony).
