No worries. First of with this fella I hacked into him with my scalpel a bit. Then painted as normal. Dabbed on a darkish tone ie scorched brown with a small roughly torn piece of sponge. Then with a brush apply a metallic. Finally I add a shade line to the upper edge of the chip with some black. Hope its of some help.![]()
yes this will help me greatly, cheers. btw how large do you expect the army will be?

Erm, blimey. Have not even considered that one yet. Well whatever I make that's heresy era. I'm going to make a 40k era counterpart. Probably around 2000/ 2500 for each. Half way through the next heresy era tac squad and captain at the mo. Then will be getting there transports sorted.
Lovely work so far. I especially like the one sergeant. Might want to get photobucket if you're having problems embedding images.

ah sounds good, well im sure you may add points later on. For me when i started i just kept adding and buying and a few years later im a little over 10000 points xD NEVER DID I IMAGINED THAT MUCH YELLOW! but your models certainly help me keep on going, and its also fun to look at the older models compared to the new ones, and you can see how you improved. Well for me any ways your already perfect at painting haha cant wait to see your new stuffcheers matey!

Cheers guys. Nar no photobucket for me. Makes my buggy old pc crash every time. Gearhart everyone gets better with time fella. I recently dug out my old Dark angel army I finished around 5 years ago. And the progress I have made since then cheers me up no end. To the point where most of it is going on fleebay to pay for more fists.![]()
If you are planning on building a beetle back mate, might I suggest you take in some of the design aspects from the mars pattern reaver by forge world as I honestly think that simply doing an upscaled version of the old epic model will look bad, kinda like the armourcast reaver, and not in style with the newer designs of 40k minis. It will mainly be subtle changes like more defined edges and a more angular main structure beneath the curved armour plates to give a more manufactured lookThis will also help you when you build it as curves are a lot harder

Cheers for the pointers chief.I do have a love of the beetle backs. And in particular the metal ones that never saw release. Got a bunch of the old plastics still.
My plan is to modal my engines so they look like older variants prier to the ones that Forge World make nowadays. So aesthetically somewhere between old epic an the modern minis. Am not to bad on curves. Am going to take a fair bit of inspiration from the Forge World Reaver and Warhound. Especially when it comes to there power plants. As long as I retain the classic silhouette then I shall be happy.
No problem mate, and it seems they were pretty spot on in regards to what you've planned yourselfWill you be doing the interior of the head too ?? Or is that too much

Lol! Of course head detail. Have had a quiet day in work so have been sketching and planning. This always happens with me. I run low on cash for the pretty models I want so I turn to scratch building. Although this will be the first time I have shown the world the results.![]()
I have only just seen these guys, I second what everybody else has said, they are gorgeous!
I have a lot of respect for anybody brave enough to tackle Imperial Fists, probably the hardest Chapter to pull off properly (yellow is a nightmare!), but you have done them beautifully.
Just the right amount of weathering too.
I was wondering though, in the first pre-Heresy squad that you posted, where is the head and power fist from on the sergeant?
I recognise most of the other bits, but don't recognise either of those and they're very nice.
Trouble is you are now making me want to buy some early FW armour marks for my Ultras!!![]()
Cheers Man. I'm really getting into this army. The head is a grey night head found on ebay, with hair sculpted on. And his power fist is the forge world command pack one.![]()
Ah ha, that makes sense now.It looks really good, may have to pinch that!
And I didn't realise FW did a command pack, damn you, have now got my card out!!![]()
Yup I feel your pain. Am now selling a bunch of old armies to fund these. Feel free to nic any ideas. Its all good.
I so love your marines Space fink....you really know how to use the yellow so well...
it is a really nice diverse force in look, poses and style...great work...i hope you will post some full army pictures soon...
Cheers fella. As soon as there are enough of the yellow perils to justify one then I'll post an army pic.
