    Audio Books

I am interested in picking up a few of the audio books and was wondering if anyone had first hand experience with them? Mainly looking at the ciaphus cain, eisenhorn, and a few others.

I've only listened to the horus heresy based ones and though I was reluctant I really enjoyed them. Just got thorn and talon myself. Dunno when I'll get round to listening to it though!

    Moved to Black Library.

I've listende to most of the 40k ones. Good for driving or listening to hen travelling by bus/train. Quality is generally good and they are atmospheric of 40k.

    Re: Audio Books

My top three audios so far are raven's flight, the madness within and garro legion of one. The first garro audio is decent. Fireborn is sort of a hit and miss but is decent as well. Throne of lies didn't really move me like any of the others although it had a few good scenes. I recently got thorn and talon but haven't had a chance to listen to it, although the extract is excellent.

By the way, are you referring to audiobooks or audiodramas. The former are the books in audio form while the latter are created for the audio medium itself.

So are the Black Library audiobooks worth it? I have never use the audio format.

Interested in Prospero Burns AB since I hear so much mixed reviews about the book (might as well go the lazy way LOL).

    Re: Audio Books

    I've listened to and enjoyed:
    Aenarion
    Fireborn
    Garro 1 & 2
    Raven's Flight
    Thorn & Talon
The Lightning Tower & The Dark King
    Throne of Lies

Amongst those, Throne of Lies was far and away the best. Exceptionally well done and highly poignant.

If you're a fan of Abnett's stuff on Eisenhorn/Ravenor, then Thorn & Talon is particularly decent. Having read them a while ago, T&T really transported me back, rekindling my love for 'em.

    Re: Audio Books

I listen to thorn and talon a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it, but could have done without the dodgy sound effects. I think they are from one of the 40k computer games, and they are not good at all. Other than that problem the voice acting is good, and the writing my Dan Abnett is of his usual high quality.

    Re: Audio Books

I listened to Prospero Burns as an Audio Book and was very impressed. Age of Darkness I also enjoyed so I can recommend them both. I am going to try Outcast Dead next. Easier than reading though more expensive.

    Re: Audio Books

As far as audio dramas go I'd recommend:
    1. Thorn and Talon
    2. Aenerion
    3. Raven's Flight
and Slayer of the Storm God because of the two most favourite characters.

I've also listend to Prospero Burns in audiobook format and loved it.

Curious as well, thinking of picking up the Horus Hersey bundle. Are they going to one out with all the heresy books in audio format?

    Re: Audio Books

    I'll apply my suggestions here:
    Throne of Lies
The Dark King and the Lightning Tower
    ...

I've only listened to those, and Raven's Flight. Xisor is quite wise (for a Scotsman ), so it's a safe bet that anything else in his list is worth listening to.

    Re: Audio Books

Ive listened to all availible heresy audiobooks, unabriged versions.. and I thouroly enjoyed them.

Im actually quite stunned at the quality of them, since ive listened throu about 40 abriged star wars books, and a ton of other audiobooks, the black library ones are up there with the best imho.

Its PERFECT to paint while you listen.. nowdays I never paint without listening to an audiobook.. =)

I totally agree with all of this, I have also listened to a bunch of star wars audiobooks, dnd books etc and the black library ones out-do the rest.

I also can't stand the people who give audiobooks a bashing when we're in a hobby that requires the constant attention of our hands and eyes, yet not our ears. I've read Prospero Burns, but listening to it again whilst I paint space wolves is the only way for me now! Will probably give deliverance lost a go as audio, even though I'm half way through the book.
