Thread: Tau Rumours 3.0 (see first post for round-up)

Re: Tau Rumours 3.0 (see first post for round-up)

Might as well put it in the first post, for completeness' sake.

It's a shame if it is that much further out, but to be honest it's pretty clear that even the people 'in the know' are pretty much in the dark and are making educated guesses for than anything else.

If the whole Hobbit license squeeze on releases is true, we really can never be sure until a teaser appears on What's New Today.

I hope though that the Tau do come out sooner, they're a favourite army of mine. The fact that they aren't power armoured, in my view, means that they are more deserving for diversity's sake at the moment. But still, another year isn't 'that' long, and if it comes out after 6th we might find they are better than they are now.

Good point that they both give you lots of space parts, but not quite the same thing, I think. They both allow you to build a squad of 5, with lots of extra parts, as opposed to what some people have suggested would be 1 commander, 1 crisis and 1 broadside all in one box, with options for other combinations.
Though my guards may sleep and ships may lie at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

So- consensus is now: 3 in a box of XV's creates all 3 different types?

Has anyone considered the possibility that this new suit, which I would imagine is 'heavier' could double as the Broadside? And that maybe the Crisis 'doubling' aspect is just the Commander?

And conclusively: Are we not getting Tau next? I mean, if I've wasted this much of my time and you're telling me I'm going to have to wait another year, that's... that's like... that's like sticking some emo kid into a funeral home with a bottle of mascara, a nice red wine and a revolver. He's not gonna make it.

I took that to be regurgitation of Harry's earlier post.

Don't think there is anything approaching a consensus........

As for the other yes I definatly think 2 different battlesuit Combi kits is a possibility hell based on earlier stuff the possibility of Crisis/New suit unit kit + a Broadside (maybe bigger XV-98, 108?)/new suit didn't seem implausible.

Where folks differ from me though in the case of "Crisis/Commander Combi kit" is that if we are talking 3 models to a kit with the ability to build one as a Commander thats not a combi kit its a single purpose kit with a character upgrade sprue.

Hell all this talk of they couldn't possible include parts for you to build 3 models as either Crisis/Broadside/New Suit plus Shas'vre/Commander upgrade sprue seems odd in light of the Immortal/Deathmark kit which has a huge amount of "wasted" plastic or that folks seem to think a 3 model Canoptek Spydor/Wraith kit is likely which would be a better analogue and would likewise have a huge amount of wasted plastic.

The whole 3 models to a kit but you can only build one as a Broadside is silly and the fact that they come in a min unit size of 1 wont change the freaking nightmare that would be trying to make it clear on the box that its a combi kit err kinda....

You just have to buy 3 of the boxes, which kinda makes sense if you're building a proper army.

For extra bits, I guess there's always the bitz services...

    Hey guys,

There's a post by AbusePuppy over at 3++ where he gives a summary of Tau rumours that have been passed on to him. It looks to be mostly a summary of rumours we already know about with some tidbits thrown in here or there.

Anyway, again I thought I'd share for you guys here =)
-Tau will be the first codex of next year
-Phil Kelly is writing the new book, not Cruddace or Ward as has otherwise been rumored.
-Crisis suits do not get a new kit, but they are getting an upgrade sprue for making special issue weapons and Broadsides.
-A Shas'el Commander unlocks Crisis suits as troops. Other types of commander are implied, including a Stealth Suit commander.
-Drones are changing significantly in how they are bought. Several new types of drones (heavy weapons, melee) are being added.
-Markerlights are Assault 1 weapons now; burning one counter lets you reroll misses or forces the enemy to reroll either cover or pinning tests. Pathfinders have the innate ability to split their fire to multiple targets.
-At least one unit from each of the five castes will be fieldable in the codex.
-There is at least one flyer (the Barracuda) in the book and getting a plastic kit, possibly more.
-Several other Forge World units (Tetras, XV9 Hazard Suits) are getting brought over as well.
-There is at least one new named character "pilot" for a flyer, a la Pask, but the system to represent them is apparently being reconsidered as part of 6E.
-Demiurg are added to the book, functioning "like Dwarves in Fantasy," with ponderous, low-AP guns and strong melee attacks. Hrud are present as well.
-Gue'vesa are available, working similarly to Inquisitorial allies drawn from the IG codex.
-Kroot Carnivores will be 5pts to bring them more in line with IG costs. They keep the same statline (and have Stealth?) but require a Shaper (unsure if he meant as an HQ or as a mandatory squad member.)
-Disruption Pod gives the Stealth USR and grants a 6+ cover save if you lack one.
-All Pulse weapons are Strength 6 in the new codex, as are Burst Cannons.
-Plasma Rifles and Missile Pods are now the same stats as their Imperial counterparts (the Plasmagun and Autocannon, respectively.)
-Seeker Missiles are 72" range and can be fired with one of several different profiles. The basic missile is still S8 AP3, but gains the Blast property. A second, "frag"-type mode is S6 AP5 Large Blast; these two fire modes come standard on the missiles (only one type can shoot each turn.) Two additional upgrade fire modes are available that improve on them, one that is S5 AP6 Large Blast No Cover Saves, another that is S9 AP1 and rolls 2d6 for penetration.
-The new codex expands on their fluff significantly, giving them more interactions with other xenos races, including resolving their grudge with Urien Rakarth and more on the story between them and Crowe.
-It's also implied that there is a faction friendly to (or at least neutral with) the Tau within the Imperium itself. Heresy!
-We learn a lot more about Tau culture and the kinds of lives their citizens lead.

EDIT: In regards to the first rumour in the list, the chat log says that they're "the next to get done" as opposed to "first codex of the year". Serves me right for not reading the whole post >.< lol

Some of that seems too good to be true. I will be very happy if most of that is actually in.

The thing is... half of that sounds absurd.
The other half has already either been "Confirmed" or "Explicitly Denied" (such as new Drone layout being confirmed, and the Human Auxiliaries being denied).
Archon Ba'al Starslayer: Kabalites!! What is your profession??
    Kabalites: Haauuuu! Haauuuu!
Archon Ba'al Starslayer: You see, Farseer? I have brought more Warriors than you...

    One very Grotesque army blog!

They are all rumours though - none of it is 100% confirmed. With contradictions one of the rumours is true, one is false. We won't know for sure which it is until it is offically said.

Seems that set is all fake though. There are bolded letters in the original source, which spells out LOLTLLYU.

Not sure what I think of the following:

"-Disruption Pod gives the Stealth USR and grants a 6+ cover save if you lack one."
I think I prefer Disruption Pods as they are...

"-Plasma Rifles and Missile Pods are now the same stats as their Imperial counterparts (the Plasmagun and Autocannon, respectively.)"

Plasma guns going to str7 sounds nice as long as we dont get Gets Hot!. Hmmm for AutoCannon that would boost the range by 12", not bad...

I find many of those rumours very hard to believe. Especially the S6 pulse weapons.

Plasma guns going to the same stats of Imperial versions would completely defeat the point of them. The point is they are weaker, but don't overheat and explode.

    It's fake though.

Yeah, don't think I'm going to add that one to the front page - or at least I'll add a link and let people know it's fake.

It's too bad that it is a fake, most of that stuff sounded like really good ideas.
