man.. I actually had the same problem with the Orc Brute and Shaman from AoW. Really bad spots in the casting and mold lines galore.. it took me a lot longer to clean these than it should.. finally I just gave up and covered it in paint. the weapon hilt under the arm was one really bad spot.. i just painted it to look like more fabric or leathery rope or something.. most people won't notice anyway! The shaman had some kinda blob on his foot that just shouldn't have been there. I'm going to have to do a little green stuff work on him to fix it. kinda disappointing since everything else i've gotten from them has been fine!
A shake of this and a sprinkle of that, then BAM!!!! It's my PLOG! (contains dark elf, dwarf, lizards and more)

OK a little update time! Here are my boar riders. i loved painting these guys! What a blast! Also some more pics of Wurzagg from a better camera.

Next up about 30+ orcs including a standard bearer and unit filler!

I plan as my next months purchase getting a box of boar boys three more trolls and ten more archers! I think i might hit some wash on the bone pieces again on the boar boys. They need some grass flock. There are skulls but i missed them at that angle!

    Laterz!

Cool boar boyz, I particularly like the warpaint that you've put on the boars.

Wurzagg looks great, and seems to fit in nicely with the other savages. I also like the boars a lot, they're lighter in colour than GW's ones and have rather expressive eyes!

Re: Savage Orcs! A new way to do this!

OK I had an idea. Every army needs a center piece! So for mine I would like to make a custom job my. Id like to make a mammoth/stone horn. Using WD 381 which features a storm of magic thundertusk and stone horn for the basis of my points. Now I will add points for four savages with either spears or bows. So should I add 40 more points for a howda that gives a 4+ save to the crew or should this be more points? Since, this is a custom creation what do you all think? deficatly a rare slot and points.

Seriously nice savages. Wurzagg's mask is brilliantly done.

The mammoth idea sounds cool and 40pts for the howdah sounds fair as that's ten points per orc thats going to be in it. I look forward to seeing how you make it.

Great paint job on Boar Boyz and Wurzag. I like the color scheme. I especially love how this light blue war paints match to the green skin tone.
The boars look very good as well. The war paint on them is subtle, not overdone, just right, like a Cherry on a top of a cake. Well done!
If you don't mind sharing, what colors did you use for boars?

If I make custom stuff, I always make it a bit more expensive then what actually seems logical to me. Then play, and see how it fares. If it's too expensive, you can make it a bit cheaper. If you start off too cheap, you'll just annoy your opponents and they don't want to play it again.

Re: Savage Orcs! A new way to do this!

Thanks again everyone ill try to be complete as possible for how I've done stuff!

    Boars:

    1. Base coat Army painter spay leather.
    2. light over brush of GW bleached bone.
    3. Thinned wash of delven mud. Multiple times if I have to. Mostly I wait to do this last after ive painted teeth, hooves, horns, ect.
    4. Lastly I do the eyes in white with a dot from a 03 micron pen.
    5. then tatToos in either white or base gw enchanted blue then a highlight of thinned ice blue. When I say thinned I mean dip the brush in a bit of water and then swirl it in the paint on the palette. So not too much.

    Ork skin:

    1. GW primer white
    2. Air gun spray snot green
    3. liberal wash of thrakka green. Let dry duh!
    4. Then, about a 1:1 mix of snot green and scorpi green. Now, because the paints are a bit watery this makes them a bit thin however I usually add a bit eavy metal medium (just the tip of the brush full) to the mix on the pallet.
    5. This mix goes on the top flat portions of the skin leaving the reccese dark. Layering is required here if the first coat is to blotchy or see thru then move to a diff area. Once your done go back over the skin till its all smooth and a uniform color. Highlight up to scorpi green i.e mix 1:2 snot and scorpi green. edges only.

For characters I highlight a bit more for troops only once.

After thats done I go on painting everything except eyes and tattoos. I wash the entire model in a thined down delvan mud. Once dry I add eyes and a bit of tattoo/ war paint work.

Again thanks to all of you that have responded it really does help me stay motivated. I have ten orcs on the bench right now and should be don by Sunday or so with pics of coarse!
