    @DAGabriel
    Can you please remove my joker? Last month I have painted one ogre extra to repay it

    This month I give you also two ogres, one for December and another for January:

    For group photo you have to wait till the next month

    WIP Carmin Ronin:

    Gah, there is so much NMM to do still it's not funny! It will be done by the end of this month!

    "Progress" thus far; one done, one PIP and one not even ready fro priming! I honestly don't think I'll even finish the third model (on the right) by the end of this Tale. Shame...

    Woohoo! I was hoping you'd post something, sea.man, and as always you don't disappoint. Those ogres look lovely, very well done.
    The great thing about the dwarves is that, even though there's this comic element, when they fight - they really fight!

    @EmperorNorton
    I like that you keep your Brotherhood crew members painted dark, like real assasins.

    @basher
    Nice color selection, my tip would be to high light the blue more.

    @GomezAddams
    Only two, but how nice How did you paint the sword's handle? The metallics look great!

    @DAGabriel
    Goblins are always fun, but now it is hard to say anything because of photo quality. The bases look very cool tho

    @Whitwort Stormbringer
    Those little soldiers look so original! My advice - be bolder with contrast!

    @Rotokultaxe
    This one is some real badass gangsta Paint some hai on his torso :P

    @easternheretic
    Thank you very musch for tutorial. My favourite would be the 'half' lady

    @Little Joe
    For me he looks as if made of snow

    @Narcissus
    As always great to see something from you! I went through your blog, great nurgle devoted band

    @Emperor Norton: Nice stuff! Bilbo's amazing! and I'm beginning to like more and more those Freebooter's fate minis. Is the game interesting? Oh, and I believe it was you who asked for a picture comparing Seamus and his avatar form... it's coming!

    @Basher: great execution with those classic Seamus colors. And I love the base too.

    @Gomez: That Keito model is excellent! Nice job with the white dress (white is, IMO, the most difficult color to work with). And your rusty alice conversion is excellent. I hope to see it painted for next month.

    @DAGabriel: again, really cool bases. But no instruments? I was secretly hoping to see Ophelia with maracas...

    @Whitwort: Weird but cool cavalry. Good execution on the errr....horses?

    @Easternheretic: Thanks for the bases tutorial! Doppleganger's back looks gruesomely amazing! And looking forward to seeing that NE Chompy painted. I also got one myself, but I need to take a break from big minis after avatar Seamus...

    @Little Joe: best choice of colors I've seen for the wendigo ! and the bases are nice too.

    @Narcissus: great conversion and great execution. Looking forward to seeing your red chapel gang next month.

    @Sea.man: again, great job! although I'd like to see better pictures (we can't see much details).

    Mr.Feral: great nmm. What is your technique ? do you overspray with white?

    Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters - Month 5 and January WIPS

    EMPEROR NORTON - As I said, I think you could do a better job on these but your last Freebooter fig in your log is shaping up much better.

    BASHER - Really nice vivid colors, the face on shamus is particularly nice.

    DAGabriel - The pics seem really dark this month, how are you taking your pics? Ophelia looks really good so I would like to see a better picture of her.

    WHITWORT - Not so keen on the dappled grey (might be worth blending the white into the grey a little more), but otherwise I really like them. As ever the colors are nice and bold and it shows the figures off well.

    ROTOKULTAXE - Excellent job, the clothes are nice and worn but what I really want to know is how you did the bricks? Its something I've tried to paint a few times and made a hash of.

    EASTERNHERETIC - The white lilitu is very nice, I think I prefer it to the black one. The WIP for the base really shows the amount of effort your putting into every single one figure. Here's hoping you have enough time to get lord chompy bits finished this month - I don't think its something I'd have the time to finish.

    LITTLEJOE - Lovely stuff, feels like a departure from your usual bits but its a nice refreshing change and nice to see you using different colors. The glitter in the paint thing is very clever and it doesn't break up the white too much. Great job!

    NARCISSUS - Quite excited to hear your painting up the red chapel gang. The flesh is nice and pallid but not lifeless. The rust work is especially nice.

    SEA.MAN - Lovely stuff as ever, the metal work is really well done and the series of pictures really shows the amount of work thats gone into them.

    MR FERAL - Thing is, I wouldn't want you to finish these quickly. The NMM is absolutely exquisite and even the misses was shocked when I pointed out that it wasn't metal. Take your time, the works clearly paying off.

    Phew! Onto the replies to people who asked questions etc. Thanks everyone for the nice comments!

    SEA.MAN - I think it was tin bitz, dry brushed with VMC brass, brown ink, and then I put in some Verdi Gris from VMC and wiped off the excess. I think it turned out okay but like the execution, needs a touch of green. Thanks

    ROTOKULTAXE - I'm hoping to have time to paint her. I'm a bit behind with my painting (and my job hunting, and my OU, and a dozen other things) at the moment so... we'll have to wait and see.

    WHITWORT - Yeah I really should have broken up the sleeve, but I've been a bit overkill on the whole freehand thing recently and I found myself repeating shapes and patterns. Leave it with me though, will try and sort it out this month!

    And finally...

    WITH REGARDS TO A BREAK
    Personally.. I think a month would be enough. Its not a particularly taxing tale (a minimum of five figures in theory), and I feel like I've hit a bit of a stride with it. Too long of a break and I think those that have stuck with it so far might wander off.

    Base color for the bricks is scab red. Followed by a wash of scab red+scorched brown (about 50/50 if I remember right, with a drop of mixing medium). I then lightly drybrushed the edges of the bricks with bleached bone. And I did a final wash of scab red+scorched brown (otherwise, the bleached bone looks too chalky and contrasts too much with the rest of the bricks.). Voilà!

    Better late than never eh? ;P

    Tale of the Skirmish Painters 2011/2012

    Month 5:

    Well it's a little late, but here's my work for December. The Governors proxy, and an Austringer

    Painting:

    Undercoated black, and to be honest I can't remember everything I used. I wanted to keep them quite muted and dull though. So the lighter cloth is dehneb stone with a devlan mud wash, and assorted browns for the rest.

    Highs and Lows: Only highs. Wyrd do some lovely minis IMHO.

    Both of the lads:

    And from the back:

    Next month: Hopefully I'll get the guild guard finished, then it's only the Ortegas and Perditas totem to do.

    @ Rotokultaxe ~ Nope, just primer white, basecoat grey and blend from that.

    @ Gomez ~ Thank you for the compliments, I'm glad both you and your wife admire the paint work. Don't worry, I am not one for rushing a paintjob!

    Regarding a break, I think at least a short break is in order (and maybe allowing a little time for recruitment would be good), but I also agree that to wait too long might mean those of use who are participating could lose steam. Maybe not much longer than a month or two?

    I'll plan on participating either way, but I also have a lot of schoolwork so I won't be matching my output for this tale, probably only 2-3 minis per month.

    Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters - Month 5 and January WIPS

    Why not make next month an optional month for signing up for the next tale, posting pictures of all of the models you painted for the tale, and posting pictures of models you complete and want to share this next month anyways? Make it an unofficial month but still create a place to share, reflect on progress, and keep the momentum that has built so far.

    Perplexiti-The face on the gov's proxy is hilarious. Such a snotty look. The bird of prey on the austringer has a nice natural look too. Good work.

    Sea.man-Those models are just oozing with character. So many details. Your paintjob looks so clean and nice too. Are these for Mordheim or some other skirmish game? Sorry if I missed if you mentioned this already.

    @Little Joe - Interesting pair of minis! The snow golem looks good, if you think you could get a bit of a close-up showing off the snow effect on him that would be cool though. A close-up of the wendigo would be neat as well, since he's kind of small in those shots (in comparison to the golem, anyways).
    Here you go close ups, I remembered I had gotten myself some watch parts so those were added as well. The best thing about the snow effect on the bases is that get this shine through snow at the edges after a few days waiting which looks quite real. You can also see some glitter reflecting the flash here and there.

    Basher-I like the lighter, more drab colours you are using for the ladies. I think I might have done the two parasols backwards (on the opposite models...). They looks really good so far. I am excited to see the finished models.

    Re: The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters - Month 5 and January WIPS

    @basher: I really like that particular shade of turquoise. Seamus looks fantastic. Makes me want to get back to my Malifaux minis.

    @GomezAddams: Once again very interesting substitutes for the official models. Mrs Lawrence is scary in her own way. I would make sure not to step onto her lawn.

    @DAGabriel: The bases are great. The picture makes it hard to see the detail, but I like how the shadow hides Ophelia’s faces and shrouds her in mystery.

    @Whitwort Stormbringer: They come mounted, too? I did not expect that. I’ve just grown used to the regular Quar, now I have to wrap my mind around those steeds. They are pretty cool, though. I really like the green uniforms.

    @Rotokultaxe: The reddish shade of his skin tone nicely stresses his aggressive demeanour…as if being a hulking brute was not enough. His five o’clock shadow is particularly great. A fantastic piece.

    @easternheretic: Very creative base design. Simple and cheap (as opposed to the inlays Wyrd sells), yet very effective. And your Doppelganger fooled me. First thought was “Hey, she’s sexy.” And then I saw her backside. Awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing your big Chompy.

    @Little Joe: He looks great, but I wish I could see your Snow Golem in person, because I am sure the pictures do not do him justice. What you describe sounds very interesting.

    @Narcissus: A fantastic conversion, a superb paintjob and an extremely disgusting mini (in the best possible way). Papa Nurgle must be very proud.

    @sea.man: Those Ogres are simply insane. Painting those would drive me crazy with that incredible amount of detail. You have done a remarkable job.

    @perplexiti: The highlights on the feathers look great.

    It is hard, because usually I don’t restrict myself like that and I find it difficult to still have contrast while using just dark colours. I think you are right about the trousers. I will try a glaze or two to make them darker.

    You know, I never even thought about it until you brought it up, but yes, that pose is rather odd. Looks like she is sneaking around in an extremely exaggerated way, like somebody would in a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

    Thank you. That’s the idea behind it, but the next few will be a bit different.

    Thanks, I’m really quite fond of Bilbo myself.
    Freebooter’s Fate is fun and has fairly unique game mechanics. If you get the chance you should check it out, it’s well worth it. Quite pricey for a skirmish game, though.
    And yes, that was me.

    So that’s that.
    I would favour a short break, too. For me a month would be enough. I guess I don’t absolutely need the Tale to paint my stuff, but it’s more fun that way.
